Carrion Drake- Actually not a terrible card for keeping the board clean. 7 health on 5 takes quite a bit to kill, so you can reasonably expect this to remove several things. Problem is, it just wasn't a good fit for the meta, but I always thought there was some potential here.
And now, the OP Dragon package from Rastakhan comes into play.
So, hm. Why the hell not, right? What's the worst thing that'll happen, the deck will just fail again?
So I tried to throw something together. I'm not really completely happy with it yet, but I honestly don't think too much needs to be changed.
Thoughts? Am I onto something here, or is this a lost cause? Shaman is running the Dragon package for god's sake. It's gotta at least have a chance here.
That's because Emeriss is a super dumb hyper lategame card that's not going to work unless we're in the slowest meta comprehensible.
And it doesn't help that Hunter's about to lose all of it's control tools.
Like I said, MAYBE you workshop the deck to include Emeriss if tools to support it and the meta slows down a ton, but I really, really, REALLY doubt that happening.
Although I will say, if that card was printed for Warrior, that could have been interesting.
...Uh, why? Yes, if you're being silly and running Emeriss in your deck, of course it does. This list is not running Emeriss, it's running the Dragon package that's actually proven to work. It's no slower off then Dragon Warrior. If anything, it's faster, because your hero power actively pressures the opponent rather than tanking yourself up, Tracking goes through your deck a bit faster, and you play a lot more cheap minions like Springpaw.
Tell me why my theorycraft of a Dragon Hunter deck doesn't work, not why the ridiculous dream of decklists running Emeriss don't work. That's a discussion that's over before it even begins.
Furthermore, even going by your logic, the meta is going to slow down after rotation. Will it slow down enough to where Emeriss is playable? Of course not. That's why he's not in the deck!
Personally i would swap out Savanna Highmane for houndmaster shaw, i also think having two hunters mark is pushing it like swap one out for hunting mastiff, i feel deck needs some card draw or some board clears..
A decent zoo deck would go through this deck, i mentioned Emiress because i am genuinely surprised as most hunter dragon decks ive seen all run them
"Personally i would swap out Savanna Highmane for houndmaster shaw"
Not a terrible idea. Especially considering Carrion Drake.
" i also think having two hunters mark is pushing it like swap one out for hunting mastiff"
I realllly like the idea of springpaw/lynxes+hunter's marks, but the deck sorta does have enough removal as is...
" i feel deck needs some card draw or some board clears.."
I'm with you on that, but I mean, it's Hunter. And this isn't a Beast deck. So it's not like I can just put in Master's Call. 2x Tracking is the best I can do here. Maybe 2x Flare if Secrets take over the meta, but I really don't see this being a Secret meta after rotation anymore.
...Board clears, though? I literally struggle to find a way to fit MORE removal in here. If you mean AoE, Hunter has so limited options for that anyway, although I honestly only put in the Dragonmaw Scorchers to kinda sorta deal with Aggro. Explosive Trap may be the better way to go.
"i mentioned Emiress because i am genuinely surprised as most hunter dragon decks ive seen all run them"
And like I said- those people are wrong. You run Dragon cards that actually work if you're going to try and build a deck like this. In a world where minion trading is more important and there isn't as much stuff like Cubes or Hadronoxes or Diamond Spellstones to bring huge boards back, the Carrion Drake is actually a very powerful card that just had no place in the meta, but rotation could be it's time to shine.
And, as stated, the meta COULD slow down enough to accommodate Emeriss, but... not bloody likely.
I think any Dragon Hunter is gonna need some beasts synergies as it corresponds to the class identity and a card like Nightmare Amalgam allows it to happen. Scaleworm is a really great tool for it. I hope they're gonna release more cards like it.
Emeriss is your win condition against classes that struggle on removing large minions, and it's a big Dragon that will stick in your hand to activate your Dragons synergies.
Wyrmguard is pretty okay, i've ofently seen people wasting silence effects on him, and well... it's still a 3/11.
Here's the decklist i made with RR release, it still needs to be refined and some cards will rotate but it were already doing okay :
After the rotation, swap Marsh Drakes with Nightmare Amalgams since there will be no Candleshot and Keleseth, Fire Flies, Ooze, Flanking Strike and Candleshots with like Firetree Witchdoctors or dragon synergy/tech stuff. The only major loss will be Rexxar, the main Emeriss fuel provider, but the deck could still perform pretty well.

Okay, you're saying alot and assuming alot but i'll do my best to answer all your questions.
Less than half of your deck, are actual dragon cards so to call this deck a "Dragon Hunter" is false advertising. It's more like a Beast/dragon/control Hunter. It's trying to do alot at once, and if you're keeping up constant pressure with aggressive cards by the time it's turn 9 to play Alexstraza they should be below 15 health, so what will you heal your opponent just to keep some silly fantasy?
Emeriss isn't an auto include in a dragon deck, just like Temporus isn't an auto include in a Dragon Priest deck. Now, if the meta was slower and hunter kept some great control cards then Emeriss might work, and your deck might work too. Hunter excells at agro decks and tempo, so no matter what you create if you're not making a deck with those two concepts in mind, you're just swimming up stream my friend.
Your third point is you strawman'ing me at your hardest lol. I never said it would be slow enough to play anything, and I don't even know what cards are dropping in the next expansion so for you to throw this comment out there is like a desperate attempt to make me look wrong or dumb lol. Better luck next time!
Anyways play whatever deck you want it's your account and your time, I'm just saying this deck won't go far in ranked standard or have positive win rates.

Surprised that there is no Emiress in that deck list

Needs a way slower meta to play Dragon Hunter, maybe when a year's worth of cards it'll work and be fun.

I'm playing this Dragon Hunter list right now and it's performing pretty well: https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1238267-dragon-hunter-rastakhan-post-2nd-nerf

I've played it with before and it did okay.
I'm really gonna miss Primordial Drake when it rotates out, its a good card. Hoping we get some good dragon cards in the new expansion.
