I think about putting Dirty Rat in my Control Warlock to have a better matchup vs. Razakus Priest. My question: At which time do you actually play Dirty Rat (if you have it in hand from start)? At turn 4 trying to pull Raza or very late in the game to pull Velen? What is statistically the better play to win the game?
And if you play against an aggro deck (for example aggro pala or aggro druid). Is it correct to play Dirty Rat on turn 2?
I think your only real hope is doing it on turn 4, especially if you see them keep multiple cards in the mulligan. If they get raza on turn 5 you usually have very little hope whether they have velen or not. If you prevent them from getting it you have a shot.
Important thing to note is that Control Warlock is natrually good late game, you just need to get there. Versus aggro paladin, yea, drop that Rat. They'll most likely have something with Divine Shield, or Knife Juggler, but you'll be able to punish the wide board in a few turns anyway, and the Rat can trade with pretty much *all* of Aggro Pally's minions, so they're less inclined to attacking.
Versus Raza... well now you're aiming for a specific card. I don't do that, because there isn't enough information in the game for me to control. I do play Rat in conjunction with additional removal. It's important to remove the threat they get as soon as it hits play, since while Rat takes care of the Battlecry, a few folks like Velen can close the game early if Rat pulls him out without Removal. So for Control Warlock, I pair Rat with Siphon Soul on turn 8 versus Razakus, usually. If they don't have Raza in their opening, they'll snap play Raza once they draw it. Either I get lucky: They have it AND I pull it out; or I just make sure I can kill whatever I pull. Aiming for Velen or Obsidian Statue, obviously. Though hitting mostly any minion in that deck is good enough, especially because, at the very worst, that's another card they don't get to use to refresh Anduin's Hero Power.

As already pointed out, it depends on the opponent's opening hand. For example, if he is second and keeps 3 cards, then I'd play dirt rat t4. Besides this, it is really hard to time.
I guess I was being a little pessimistic/salty because I always "know" my opponent drew/had raza on curve, because they always do. But yes, definitely pay attention to how many cards they keep before playing it.
You really need to know what your opponent is playing in their deck to use Dirty Rat efficiently; If your opponent plays a murloc and is paladin, it’s safe to say that the worse case would be them getting a warleader or a 5/4, which isn’t that awful, so it’s safe to it play it whenever you can if that’s the case. If your opponent is like warlock or paladin and chooses to pass for multiple turns by tapping, probably don’t want to summon Dirty Rat or you may potentially screw yourself over. Sometimes you should just save Dirty Rat for a combo later like Rat + AoE of MCTech if you think you can stay alive vs the aggro deck or if you think the control deck will overextend or play death knight guldan or nzoth. The card right now imo isn’t very good due to the large amount of control decks running around, meaning you will most likely only safely play rat with AoE or MCTech.

If you are sure it's an aggro deck, you play it ASAP.
