Hey guys, Tharyn from Germany here.

I´m bringing you my new Spell Priest Decklist, made possible by the new Lesser Diamond Spellstone! It´s tons of fun (if you like a controlly playstyle) and I´ve found it quite competitive so far. :) So you wanne stomp your enemies with a ridiciulous surprise avalanche of minions in the late game? Lets get it on then!

Playstyle

Your winning conditions are massive late game tempo swings, which means you need to get through the early- and midgame, using as many cards of the spell control set, as you need. Embrace the Shadow & Circle of Healing and Pint-Size Potion & Shadow Word: Horror are your two combos here, with Shadow Visions to search for the missing combo peace or whatever you need right now. You can already decide the game at this point against most aggressive decks through your constant removal and healing through your hero power and Greater Healing Potion. While playing, you will generate coins through the new Gilded Gargoyle, lower your Arcane Giant´s cost and upgrade your Lesser Diamond Spellstone.

Then it´s time to unleash an onslaught of awesome minions onto your opponent! You bring down your Giants, Obsidian Statue and Medivh, the Guardian. Combine Atiesh with your powerful spells, preferably Free From Amber and the Lesser Diamond Spellstone, to create a huge tempo swing. Lesser Diamond Spellstone should at least be in its second, better of course third state, to revive more minions. Don´t play it, before some of your other, powerful minions have died! Combined with Atiesh, the Spellstone can give you up to five high cost minions in one turn, which your opponent can barely ever remove. But even if he can: There is another Spellstone, two more procs of Atiesh and Free From Amber, which is a great, adaptable card.

These combos lead to the must absurd combinations of minions on your side of the board, leaving your opponents completely helpless how to deal with them. Spells are fun, sooo fun! ;)

Another option is gaining value from Lyra the Sunshard with all the spells you have. Playing spells while regaining spells fits in with your other cards just perfectly.

I´m still testing and experimenting with slight card variations. Give me your feedback and ideas and have fun with the deck!

Edit: In response to the many aggro decks I encountered: -1 Dragon Soul and -1 Psychic Scream, since they are not very helpful in those matchups. +1 Greater Healing Potion, +1 Tar Creeper, which is nice early on and also solid when you revive it.

Cheers! :)

Mulligan

I will do a more detailed breakdown for what to keep against all the classes, when this deck gets some more upvotes and the meta got a little more predictable. :) But here are some general guidelines:

You will usually want to keep Potion of Madness and Shadow Word: Pain as reliable early control spells, as well as most of the other cheaper cards, especially the Embrace the Shadow & Circle of Healing combo when you have both cards or one of them plus Shadow Visions.

When you think that you are facing another control deck, you should instead consider keeping a Lesser Diamond Spellstone and definitely keep Shadow Visions for flexibility and the ability to search for Free From Amber later on.

Tech choices

If you encounter a lot of aggressive decks, I would replace Dragon Soul or an Arcane Giant with a second Greater Healing Potion. Also, you can fit in a Tar Creeper or Spirit Lash by cutting some high cost cards.

Replacements

The cards mentioned above are also generally recommended, when you do not own some of the legendaries or epics, as the deck is quite robust against other control decks. Lyra the Sunshard and Dragon Soul fit really well into this deck, but aren´t absolutely necessary. The only legendary I consider crucial is Medivh, the Guardian, while Shadow Visions is an absolutely necessary epic to find missing combo pieces, anwers to threats and generate more spells.

Holy Fire can be used to replace Psychic Scream as a big, controlly spell. If you need another big minion replacement, you can go with Ysera, The Lich King or Primordial Drake for example. But really, just take something big, that can also bring you some additional value through taunt or another effect.

Questions

Isn´t Gilded Gargoyle just bad?

I thought so, too, in the beginning. But getting an additional coin as Spell Priest is actually a huge thing: 1. It is a spell and works for all the synergies mentioned above. Playing three spells in a turn or upgrading your spellstone becomes so much easier! 2. It enables you to play some of your boardclears earlier in the game than you would otherwise be able to, which is a huge thing against aggro/midrange decks.

When and how should I use my Shadow Visions?

Shadow Visions is your most versatile card. use it, to adapt to your opponents playstlye! That means: Against Aggro decks, use Shadow Visions when you don´t have a better answer to their board state, to not lose tempo. If you use it, try to get Potion of Madness, Spirit Lash or Greater Healing Potion, depending on the situation. In the mid game, you can, of cousre, also take your board clears. These are the same cards, that you will want to get against midrange decks, but usually the board clears (Dragonfire Potion, Psychic Scream or maybe a missing Shadow Word: Horror / Pint-Size Potion) will become more valuabe here, since their average minsions are stronger.

Against Control Decks, you will want to generate some more late game Value, so go for Free From Amber (especially when you already have Medivh, the Guardian) or Lesser Diamond Spellstone (especially when you don´t already have one, since you want to have one upgraded, when your big minions die).

Most importantly: When you have no idea, what your opponent is playing: Don´t use Shadow Visions in the early game, since this could risk getting the right answer to their next play! Wait for the right timing, unless you are completely sure to be able to handle whatever comes next.
