Midrange Rusher
The concept behind this deck came from wanting something that was fast, but provided enough control and midrange to handle more of the heavier decks currently out there.
Nerubian Egg Activators:
There are quite a few in this deck that can provide the Nerubian Egg with an activation
-
Abusive Sergeant can +2 it so it can hit a minion with at least 2 attack damage to pop the egg.
- Dire Wolf Alpha can be placed strategically to not only help pop the egg like abusive, but can provide a nice up-swing and a target for the enemy on the next turn. (though this card can be replaceable)
- Power Overwhelming can be used as a utility to buff up your egg to kill off a bigger minion on the board that you would otherwise not be able to kill off immediately.
- Void Terror. One of my favorite methods, especially when combined with Power Overwhelming on the egg on Turn 4, then Void Terror to eat it up. This forces your opponent to deal with it quickly (even if that means using removal).
- Defender of Argus can be used to taunt up the egg to have the opponent forcefully kill it to activate it.
There are inefficient methods (not recommended unless in a dire situation) to directly activate the egg, and those would include Siphon Soul and Soulfire.
Sludge Belcher:
In response to removing the Doomguard, I also wanted to buff the mid-game with the Sludge Belcher, which is a great taunt card as when it dies, it creates a separate token taunt that must be dealt with.
To Buff the Later Game:
You may be able to remove Dire Wolf Alpha or another card you think is not performing to your playstyle and replace it with others such as Faceless Manipulator, or Baron Rivendare. At a point, I've also successfully removed a few midgame cards like Stalagg and Feugen (incase if you think they are too combo dependant) and replaced them with something else.
Any Suggestions?
If you have any suggestions for this deck, feel free to comment down below and I will test out your changes on my laddering account.
Hello, I've really been enjoying this deck. I'm using the original version you posted and having a lot of fun and success with it. I don't feel it needs the change you made and I will explain why, can you tell us how the changes have worked for you?
Stalagg and Feugen have worked great for me. Many times Thaddius has been summoned by my opponent at just the right time to give me the win. They provide a lot of great tempo and make the enemy work hard to kill them.
I've found Kel'Thuzad to be useful too. Very very rare does his ability actually do anything for me, but I still like to use him because he forces your opponent to go all-out to kill him, often wasting removal cards that then let you use your minions like Stalagg and [card]Feugen[/card] for the win. I could see Ragnaros being a viable alternative because he would have a similar function for the deck, but due to the fun factor I prefer Kel'Thuzad
Anyways, great deck I think it catches a lot of people by surprise. I've found it to be excellent against the current meta. I think it is really good because it has the power to last into the endgame and deliver the kill.
I play the deck like zoo, going for total board control and minion spam. I can see why you used to call it Zoo, I think the original name of the deck was actually not so inaccurate. It is like a zoo deck that can last long enough for the win, whilst old zoo peters out and doesn't have the power to deliver the final blow in the current meta. Sometimes if I have taunts I will switch to going for face, but that is always a tough decision. Usually there is more then enough minions to control the tempo and board and get the win in the end.
I can't think of any difficult match ups I've had, I think this deck is good against almost everything.
Hey XanderCat,
I'm glad you're having success with the deck. I've been play-testing the original version again, myself. When I first updated I had a bit more consistency with the current version but things seem to make me want to shift back. I still consider this deck Zoo-esque, but after criticism/suggestions I've switched things up (as you've noticed)
Once people get the general idea of how to play this deck it seems to be very successful in the current meta. I may revert the updates depending on how my hustle to get legendary back goes this week.
I just had a bad run with several losses, when the day before I had almost nothing bud wins. This deck is fun. I am a former zoo player and zoo just can't keep up with the current meta. Sometimes the deck seems all or nothing, but actually there are games where I scraped by or turned things around for the win. I tried out ragnaros but ended up switching back to Kel'thuzad. He still is questionable but I reasoned that there is more then enough deathrattle in the deck that even just getting two rattles out of a minion makes him worth it.
This deck is bad against hunter and zoo, which make up more than 50% of the meta. If you care about winning, it's not a good choice.
Definitely like this deck, i don't have The Black Knight, so i replaced it with a Faceless Manipulator, it worked very well.
Just curious, with nearly all of these cards being neutral, what makes the Warlock the best class for this mid-range set? Zoo benefits related to a fast and low cost deck. Since this deck is slower, I don't see a high synergy with the Lock Hero Power or Lock-specific cards. Would this deck be more effective in the hands of another class? Like a Mage perhaps?
Playing this a bit more, I definitely like this deck a lot.
Though I understand the importance of Kelthuzad, Feugen, and Stalagg, I think they may be too combo dependent. Mind you, I've had a few times where I set up a nice thaddius play and the opponent just conceded (especially if I pop the second one with power overwhelming, or void terror on a turn where they expect it to live one more turn before they need to silence or prep a defense), and I have done a few wicked placements of Kelthu on a board with sticky or midrange minions to warrant a second glance.
Wouldn't it be better to replace them with something like cairne, faceless, and ragnaros? well, maybe not replace kelthu.
I dunno. I am rambling.
Edit: then again, that would increase the cost to utilize this deck by quite a bit. hmm hmm.
Thanks for changing the name, I was here earlier when it was called a zoo deck and was confused. There are as many mid-late game cards to early game. Zoo is a deck that uses lower mana cards, usually the highest mana card would be a doomguard (5). It's still an interesting deck though, it's nice to finally have different warlock decks instead of the usual zoo or handlock.
I've had decent results with this deck. Though its more midrange than Zoo, so don't expect to play like a zoo would. This deck still needs some tweaking though as it is a bit inconsistent.
This seems to curve way too high and way too slow to be called a zoo.
This looks more like an unoptimized oddlock deck (combination of zoo and handlock).
Calling it a zoo would be wrong because it gives people the idea that they should have a certain play style with it. This cannot be played like a traditional zoo deck.
I'd agree that the name should be changed by the creator of it. It's probably why the other guy had some issues with it as they may have played it like a Zoo.
I've been kind of playing it like a control-styled warlock, as weird as it sounds. Though Hunter can be an issue if they draw really well .. I think the deck plays rather well.
I initially went into it playing like a zoo, like a fool, but after a few games I realized it can't be played like that. Again, my issue with it is that it is relatively inconsistent the way it is now. I will have to fool around with a few cards in it and see what I can do to make it more consistent. I did add Cairne Bloodhoof which seems to be extremely useful in many ways.
What did you replace for the Cairne?
I have so far had abysmal results with this deck... It seems inconsistent. I will either win really hard or lose... horribly... Which happens too often to ladder effectively. I'll have to tinker with it because I like the concept.
*Edit
This deck really sucks hard against any form of hunter, I think traditional zoo does better. Again, will just have to tinker with it a bit.
not sure if this helps, but I
went from rank 13 to 8 so far with this.edit: hovering around rank 6.
Looks like an interesting take on Zoo. I don't have windrunner though. Would Cairne Bloodhoof, or something like Faceless Manipulator work?
Edit: Actually, Cairne looks okay here with Kelthzad. I also like the Siphon Souls. I won quite a few games already. I'll keep trying this deck. thanks.
