Hi everyone!
Since the warlock quest was announced i was intrigued about crafting and playing it, but since im a f2p player i always was too scared to invest that much dust in a not really working mechanic.
Two day ago i got really bored of the decks i was currently playing and i finally crafted everything needed for a Questlock Deck.
I had to dust a lot of Legendaries to gather the needed dust, but, boy, it was worth it!
I haven't had so much fun playing Hearthstone in quiet a while.
The first day playing i tinkered around a bit, the core of the deck is from Kibler's Questlock, but i swapped out quiet some cards.
When i thought it won't get better i started playing ranked.
I managed to climb from Rang 10 to Rang 5.
I will continue playing and update where i get to .
So here's my list for everyone who is interested and in case you have questions and or this gets enough attention, ill try and write a detailed guide.
(Not too detailed, because one of the strengths of this deck is to really surprise your opponent ) :D
Lets get it straight guys, if you dont have a vast amount of dust and or are reeeeeeeally hyped to play a discardlock, it's probably not worth crafting all the cards for it, youre better of with zoolock and or control, like some commenters said.
And yes, i use crawlers because everyone, their mothers and their pets uses pirates.
If they use pirates its a goddamn strong card, if they don't, youre happy to discard them :P
My hopes are that the next expansion brings some more support to discard, like the last ones.
I'd like a card that says: 'Recruit a Minion you discarded this game' or 'Discover a Card you discarded this game'
This got way more attention than i anticipated, thank you guys for the advice, videos and so on :)
Here are my thoughts about the deck and it's variations:
The whole Package:
Basically just like you see it here, the quest, gul'dan, both legendaries, heavy discard focussed with some control tools.
It's the most 'complicated' and you can be heavily punished by discarding the wrong stuff.
You will lose tempo because you play the quest on turn one instead of a 1-drop.
The Board can be won back by playing heavy minions like lakkaries, discarding golems, or by defiling the enemy board (e.g. vs shaman or rogue).
If you want to utilize the quest you need to be careful when you play howlfiends!
I only play the quest if i really are able too, because, here again you will lose tempo.
So, if youre behind on the board and you have something better to play, just risk discarding it :)
Same goes for Gul'dan, discarding him in the early turns doesnt matter, but if i draw him on turn 7 or 8 i try to keep him until 10 and just discard him when i really need to.
Bloodueen is similar again, shes really great if you can play her and keep in mind, she still gains attack (heal) if she's on board and you discard stuff.
The Package with 1-Drops:
I took out stuff like Drain Soul and put it Flame Imps and Voidvalkers, so turn one you can decide if you want to play the quest or hold it back for some time.
Aggro:
Take out the expensive stuff :)
No Bloodqueen, no quest, a lot of oneand two drops, you want the board, you get it and you stay there.
Gul'dan is optional here, really strong if you can play him.
For this you should check out JackieChans deck he played in the GameGune Tournament 2017 ;)
The whole discard staff is pretty whacky and i think everyone whos interested in playing it/has the cards anyway needs to tinker around by himself.
My personal favourite is the whole package, you really need to think before you play something, you need to adjust your plan all the time, discard by discard, draw by draw ;)
Someone (everyone) should send this to Firebat's Deckdoctor, i want to see what he does with it :) (The Quest is the Soul of the Deck)
If you are gonna trash someones play style...at least man up to it.
Being a polite deucebag doesn't change the fact that you were being a deucebag....and that's the same everywhere around the world.
PS. Your passive aggressive remark only fortifies the impression that you can't take responsibility for the insults you want to throw at people. Your lack of testicular fortitude has nothing to do with my soul or the amount of sensitivity contained therein.
Replacing one Howlfiend is okay, though you are glad to discard him later on, the Lakkari's are pretty important, they are a huge pile of stats and discard two cards :> And they do have taunt.
Not having cards in your hand is useful after you completed the quest, because then you dont want to discard further and lose more cards :)
Dammit, I wish I had Clutchmother Zavas... Just through happenstance, I've pulled all the other legendary cards from packs, so I've been trying to play variations of this deck since the quest came out. The thing is, Blood-Queen Lana'thel just isn't that great. It would be a totally different story if she had a demon type, since she could be recalled. She's not that great to begin with, but the threat of discarding her with no way to get her back is painful.
Even without Zavas, the deck IS pretty strong, overall. I think it would actually be on-tier with Control Warlock, but probably below Zoo. We really need more discard synergy; Frozen Throne didn't offer enough to make it totally viable. Stronger recall cards would be great, even if they are tricky to activate (or risky). It's like Blizzard is too afraid to offer Warlocks the synergy they need, by not making key cards demon type, or making the only recall minion available a crappy use of slots.
Anyway, since I can't justify crafting Zavas this close to the next expansion, can anybody recommend a replacement? If you're gonna suggest a legendary, please offer a couple since we may not have that exact card to replace it with. Thanks.
"My hopes are that the next expansion brings some more support to discard", first time I've heard that. Looks fun, wish i had the dust to try it out.
There is Cruel Dinomancer, but we need something less random.
Deck name made me chuckle.
Looks like a fun deck, I have all the cards except for 2 key ones, quest itself and Zavas. Really nice deck. That being said, discardlock is a niche type and there is a new expansion coming soon so crafting this deck is not a reasonable option. But if you have the cards - it must be a fun using it.
Let's put it that way: This deck gets your blood flowing and your heart pumping, sometimes because you just cast a defile with a howlfiend on the field and it discarded Clutchmother three fucking times, sometimes because you discarded something you really needed the next turn. :)
replacement for blood queen lanethel?
Some more Healing, like Earthen Ring Farseer, a Taunt, like Stonehill or Tar Creeper, maybe a Twisting Nether, like someone in the comments suggested (going to try it out) or Elise the Trailblazer for extra Cards in the Lategame.
Actually thought about putting in a Prince Malchezaar, for situational value + more Cards to throw away. (Running low on Cards often happens due to discarding, drawing with hero power and Malchezaar's Imps)
i try to play as discard lock too. failed mostly but one of my best card in my deck was twisting nether. advise u too
I'd need 5k dust to craft this... is it really worth it so close to new expansion? is there anyway to cut down the cost? (I need all legendaries bar gul'dan)
I heard that disco decks are not that good tbh... maybe I'd be better off dropping the dust on a regular control-lock or the c'thun one (although buying old gods cards now is probably a bad idea)
Just looking for something I can craft that I can get the most life out of (or is waiting till new expansion the best thing to do... I mean will it really change the meta and make cards obsolete in such a drastic way that buying cards now is futile?
really interested in crafting this... any chance you can PM with some basic strat as I don't really know what to do with it, I just love warlock decks.
I wouldn't put a lot o dust in to this deck honestly. I've tried to make the archetype work for a while, but it's just not great. You'd be better off playing Zoo or control with Marin.
Also, Barnes/Yasaraj and Renounce Decks are fun
I'm currently playing a version of a keleseth zoo, so will probs just stick with this till next month at least when new cards come out.
thanks for info, guys.
Why do you use Golakka crawler?
Because every deck and it's mother is running pirates.
I think he uses it cause it kills all the pirates and if your opponent isn't playing pirates you can always use them as discarding trash. so either they win you games on turn 2 or they count toward your quest!
