Come in and Warm your Frozen Boots by the Fire!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gunnolf, and I am originally from the Land Down Under a.k.a. Australia. I am an avid gamer that has acquired a real passion for card games, which originated from my humble beginnings as a Yu-Gi-Oh collector and eventually grew from my dabbling in Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight, until we reached the game we know as Hearthstone.

I've played Hearthstone since the days of classic, with multiple accounts on both EU and NA servers. Despite having reached the Rank of Legend and my own personal mentality of equating 'having fun' with 'winning', I am not really a fan of meta power-grinding & net-decking, not that there is anything wrong with that. Therefore, I enjoy thinking about new, cool and fun deck ideas that push boundaries while also allowing you to win and those are what I want to share with you guys every-time I post a decklist.

I have presently become a contributing writer to WILDHS and will be posting articles there on a semi-regular basis, regarding deck-archetypes the status of the meta as well as how to get the most fun out of this game even if you aren't a big spender. If any of this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend that you check out of the website, as the writers and the owner himself are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet with great in-game knowledge (link to be website can be found HERE). You can also follow me on Twitter for latest updates.

If you genuinely like my content and would like to see me produce more of it, then please consider supporting me on Patreon. This is by no means necessary but it will definitely help me out in the long run. Thanks for Reading ^^

Deck Introduction

Welcome back guys, today I have a very special deck for you in honour of the release of Marin the Fox. So when I first saw the card, I wracked my brain to try and see if there was any way in which the card could be used competitively. He has abysmal stats (6/6 for 8 mana) and a battlecry that can effectively be neutralised by silence or transformation effects. In essence, he is a very slow card that produces a win condition which can be interacted with by the opponent.  So how could he ever be used competitively? Well, as I am sure people have figured out from the decklist, the answer comes in the form of an OTK Priest using the Divine Spirit and Inner Fire combo.

A Quick Thank You Before We Proceed!

Dear Readers,
Thank you so much for all your support of this deck and the other ones I have posted to date. It is because of your support that I am able to keep posting content, that I sincerely hope makes your gameplay experience (whether it is Ladder, Casual or just Completing Quests) that much more enjoyable. This list is considered as one of Hearthpawn's Favourite Marin related decks (the Link to Article stating as such found HERE) something which could not have been achieved without you. Thank you all once again and I'll see you all at my next deck posting.

Deck Inspiration

Funnily enough the card that actually made the idea pop into my head was Doomsayer. Anyone who played against any form of inner fire priest, whether it involved Djinni of ZephyrsDeathlord or simply Purify, knows how game losing it can be to drop a high health minion that can be taken with Potion of Madness and used to smack you in the face for about 30 damage. This deck works in the exact same way, only instead of waiting for our opponent to play a minion we make it ourselves and use its absurdly high health to our advantage.

Playstyle

This deck plays very similarly to the Djinni of Zephyrs priest in so far as you need to stall long enough to assemble the combo and as such the deck has a reasonably high skill cap. However, I have made it a tad easier by including Deathlords which will allow you to develop a huge minion for an early push if you have the relevant combo pieces in hands.

Lyra the Sunshard has been included as a value generator and secondary win condition. However, if after extensive play-testing she appears to be a dead card most of the time, she will be cut in favor of something that fortifies the early game.

Combo Explained

Ok, so I am fairly certain that everyone reading this knows already how Inner Fire priest works. You have a minion, you buff its health with Divine Spirit and then use Inner Fire to match the minion's attack to its health for an incredible burst of damage.

Marin the Fox actually costs a fair bit of mana (eight to be exact) so in order to be able to use him in an OTK deck successfully we require only a single tick fromEmperor Thaurissan on two to four combo pieces, depending on what they are. Essentially:

-> 2x Radiant Elemental with one discount tick will allow you to complete the combo in one turn.

-> Marin the Fox + 2x Divine Spirit + 1x Potion of Madness or +1x Inner Fire with one discount tick will allow you to complete the combo in one turn.

-> Marin the Fox + 1x Divine Spirit + 1x Potion of Madness and +1x Inner Fire with one discount tick will allow you to complete the combo in one turn.

The combo is as follows: Play Marin the Fox, use Potion of Madness on the summoned 0/8 Treasure Chest and after buffing it with x2 Divine Spirit and Inner Fire, you smack them in the face for a total of 32 damage!

Ok so after playing quite a few games and gaining feedback from other players, I should state that most people do not interact with the chest AT ALL. So what you can potentially do, is just drop Marin the Fox on turn 8 and just do the full combo the next turn if you don't draw into your Emperor Thaurissan quickly enough!

Alternate Competitive Deck Building
(Read If You Want to be Playing a More Competitive Version Of This Deck)

Ok guys and girls, after considerable play-testing and a lot of feedback from multiple players, I have decided to list a slightly different way to build the deck, as I would be remiss in my duties if I did not do so. The list below, removes the possibility of an uniteractable OTK as Emperor Thaurissan is being Cut. However, it has better early game consistency and allows you to completely demolish your opponent pre-turn 8 when Marin the Fox would become relevant thus becoming more Ladder Viable. The substitutions are as follows:

-1x Acolyte of Pain & -1x Wild Pyromancer / +x2 Zombie Chow
-1x Emperor Thaurissan & -1x Potion of Madness / +x2 Light of the Naaru

Now, you are probably wondering 'what prompted me to consider an alternate means of deck building'. Well, the more games I played, the more I realised that people were not even bothering to kill the chest or damage it, therefore the one turn OTK with Emperor Thaurissan is quite overkill and simply delaying the inevitable as you could essentially just kill your opponent on turn 9 just by playing Marin the Fox on turn 8.

However, and this is the main reason why I have not altered the main decklist. Eventually, people will catch-on and start to play around the potential otk with the chest and when that happens, Emperor Thaurissan will once again be required to enable an OTK your opponent cannot interact with.

Author's Notes

This is a semi-competitive deck with a really fun, new and interesting twist. It is very close to an optimised version, however having said that it will still be prone to change pending additional play-testing.

Take your time to learn the deck. It truly isn't an easy one to master and if you are having trouble understanding the actual play-style then I would recommend watching any tutorial video that explains the premise and playstyle of Djinni of ZephyrsWowhobbs is actually quite proficient in such decks and my recommended go to for learning about combo priests if you are having issues (Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Wowhobbs, I just think the content he produces is quite entertaining and informative. You No Break Chest. You use Chest to Break Face! SMOrc

(For those of you wondering, Shadowform came from Lyra the Sunshard before she was killed like always :'()

I enjoy deck-building a multitude of interesting decks that are both entertaining and Legend viable (with some odd Free-to-Play lists mixed in). So if you like this deck (or anyone of my other ones) consider leaving a thumbs up, as it really helps in the long run! :)

Thank you guys for all your support and if you have any suggestions, let me know.
