Heroic Thaddius' Warlock
Hi everyone, and welcome to the final boss of the Heroic Construct Quarter: Thaddius! It is in my opinion one of the most fun battles in the add-on. With his Polarity Shift, it makes this game a little bit of a chess game.
Background
Thaddius has his Polarity Shift Hero Power which switches the attack and health of all the minions on the field. He also starts his first turn by summoning for free Feugen and Stalagg on the field, however they will not have their deathrattle, but two minions at 4/7 and 7/4 that keep switching their attack and health means that you'll get 11 damage to the face until you can deal with them. So unless you want him to "Kill!" us, here is a Warlock strategy to beat him.
Strategy
- To start off, I would like to say that this is based on a Zoo build, which means in mid-game you will usually want to Life Tap for extra draw and gain a hand advantage over Thaddius.
- To kick start the match-up you want to mulligan for a Soulfire and a Corruption as these two cards will eliminate the both Feugen and Stalagg swiftly. You will also want a 1 drop minion that you can play on your first turn.
- Edit: You can also switch Corruption for an Unstable Ghoul in the mulligan, as he takes care of Stalagg after the Polarity Shift whilst as usual, Soulfire will take care of Feugen. Thanks to Goge for bringing this up and giving us more options to deal with early game.
- Just to be clear, getting clear of both Feugen and Stalagg is the toughest part of the match-up but once done, things should go smoothly.
- After that, you want to control the board whilst buffing your Undertaker in the early and mid-game.
- You can use the Dire Wolf Alpha to take advantage of Polarity Shift and therefore continuously buff your other minions.
- Around turn 5 you will want to play either Feugen and Stalagg, especially if you have either a Shadowflame in hand or a Baron Rivendare on the field. Either minion will summon a (or two) Thadius when dead, which is an 11/11. Just try and play around polarity shift when you do so.
- Once the board is settled, you will be free to go for the face. You shouldn't have too much problems from then on.
The early game is the most difficult part of the game, but once you get rid of both Feugen and Stalagg, you should be fine. RNG doesn't play that big of a party in this match-up as you are playing a Zoo build and will be drawing a lot in mid game, making sure you can be mana efficient. Good luck guys and see you next week!
If you are having troubles with the rest of the Construct Quarter check my other F2P decks out for Patchwerk, Grobbulus or Gluth.
Here is a great game from Kizaru1 using this deck to beat Heroic Thaddius, check it out!
Edit: After considering everyone's opinion in the comment section, I decided to switch -2 Voidcallers for +2 Unstable Ghouls for couple of reasons: it helps avoid face damage in the early game, reduces the attack of the minions on board for the next turn and Voidcaller is actually pretty useless apart from buffing the Undertaker. After testing, the deck seems more reliable in the early game.
Like 10 tries - no result. Sorry, but this deck sucks.
I've made it on 3rd try with some luck !
HERE IS MY SCREENSHOT:

It is fine if u get double soul fire on start too.
a remix of this deck worked for me. i didn't have all the cards so i substituted
a dragon egg, 2 raid leaders (instead of direwolf), an implosion, a doomguard, a floating watcher, cairne bloodhoof.
Only took me 1 try to win :}
In the fight i never got around to using the doomguard or floating watcher. But i did manage to use the other cards.
Soulfire managed to kill off 1 of the big creeps early on. The other i managed to kill off with a buffed up undertaker.
After that point i just kept planting down as many minions as i could, and clearing board to maintain board control at all times. I'd kill a creep without getting mine killed, and the extras just kept going face.
Eventually i could place the more powerful minions on the board. If i didn't have room, i'd use my low lv minions to clear board and die to make room. I was quite low life at this point.
Managed to narrowly win even after he got around to spaming the board with minions on his last turn in an attempt to finish me off or force me to clear his board with my minion. But i had enough fire power to kill him off.
Amazing Deck!!!
Still works!
Took a few tries to get it but fairly simple. Guide still applies. Undertaker nerf isnt the work thing ever because of the hero power.
really good deck ! 1st attempt win !!!
Took about 15 actual attempts with about 20+ resets for corruption+soulfire hands.
This is how i finally finished it lol
Not a very good deck. Undertaker is quite useless compared to Zombie Chow. Dancing Swords can be hit by his gargoyle. Requires too much tapping with little healing.
Thanks! I know I'm a bit late to the party, finally getting through Naxx heroic but this deck made Thaddius a breeze. Won on my first try.
Awesome , Thanks
Didn't work so well for me untill I made some changes : -2 dire wolf alpha that I didn't find worth 2 spot in decks cause in every game I played and drawn them they weren't very useful so I replaced them by one darkbomb and one micro machine (not very useful because of his lightning storm / forked lightning on second thought, might be better replacements). I also took out the void terror for the same reason as the wolves for a big game hunter (very useful on turn three). First game I played with thes modifications, I won without effort (ended up with corruption and big game hunter on turn 3 so I took 4 damages more than if I had soulfire and corruption on turn 2 but I think it is a good plan b if you don't have the perfect mulligan)
Thank you for the strategy though =)
Swapped Void Terror for Floating Watcher and I beat him on the first try. Real first try though not like another boss where you have to rely on RNG *cough Gluth cough*. Thanks for the deck. Upvoted and Thaddius is a real fun compared to other Construct Wing bosses
I try the same deck but with some changes. I change 2x Leper Gnome for 2xShadow Bolt and 2x Dire Wolf Alpha for 2xHellfire. I won in the 3 try:
Thanks dude! Ur hellfires really helps me. I won in the 2 try. Thanks again!
Took me like 5 or 6 tries until I had a good draw. Ty.
got him first try, had both corruptions in my opening hand made it quite easy to win.
Worked at my first try. Great deck, thank you. :-)
Worked like a charm, thanks.
Finally got it , after damn lots of tries.
I don't have Shadowflame and without it this deck just doesn't work. Also the Soulfire nerf hurts this deck a lot.
