This is the deck ran by Realz in the VGVN Day Two Tournament. I'm just posting it here for viewing people's viewing pleasure.
Holding big Demons in your hand and having Voidcaller's bring them out are nice. Eating fatties with the Void Terrors are amazing. There are a lot more tricks to this deck than it seems! There is a lot of control here, and a lot of incredibly thoughtful plays to think about. Going whole hog off the bat is risky, but can payoff, and you can also play it safe as well. People don't really see this deck coming. This is a new Meta: Big Demon Jaraxxus Combo. Free demons are the best demons.
1) It is not Hand Lock. 2) It is not Zoo Lock.
Realz played this deck all the way to the VGVN FINALS and it won 3 straight. Sadly, he lost the final match (game 7 of 7) b/c of no taunter. It seemed like a chance thing really.
Full credit to Realz for playing this deck with superb clarity and power. Jaraxxus won him a fair share of times with this deck.
I'm having a lot of trouble making this deck work, too. I'm generally getting wrecked because none of those killer combo wombo cards ever seem to come up for me. And if I Life Tap for them, in the current highly aggressive meta I just end up losing.
And I'm getting destroyed in Casual, never mind ladder play.
(I took the faceless and something else out and added 2x Belchers on my own... That helped, but it's just not enough...)
Thanks for posting this, I never would have heard of this great deck otherwise.
One question: Do you try to play Jaraxxus as your hero or do you want to put him down as a minion with Voidcaller?
You want to play him as a hero replacement ideally, and if he flops out due to Voidcaller than try to get a taunt maker to make him a beefy tank for you.
It should be noted that he's recently been running Sludge Belcher instead of Faceless Manipulator while he's laddering.
Realz was streaming with this deck last night, and he went pretty in-depth about using Illidan Stormrage. Basically he said that you could use it in place of Dread Infernal, as it combos really well with Voidcaller, but Dread Infernal is a much better card by itself because it is immune to Big Game Hunter, and the battlecry is very useful.
"1) It is not Hand Lock. 2) It is not Zoo Lock."
Thumb up ;)
I was looking for something besides Zoo and Handlock, thanks for sharing.
This kinda just looks like a Zoo Deck really, there's not even any Voidcaller in it. No offense, but I think it misses the point of the meta to bring out free demons.
The Warlock games start at 33:40 :)
Really happy I didn't DE my Jaraxxus :D
This really is an awesome deck!
(I disagree with your saying his loss was a chance thing though :p. Amaz played very well)
i have no problem with druids or warriors , its the hunters that eat me alive and keep me under rank 7 :/
This is by far the funnest deck I've played so far. Just had a game against a miracle rogue where I dropped Voidcaller turn 4, he then eviscerated it to bring out my Jaraxxus which I then faceless manipulated into a second Jaraxxus the next turn. He then tried his miracle shenanigans but I played defender of argus right after, so I had 2 taunted up Jaraxxuses (Jaraxxi?) and he couldn't do a thing against them. Smacked his auctioneer with one Jaraxxus then slapped his face with the other. It was glorious :D
I had been thinking about trying to come up with a decent Voidcaller/Demon deck, and happened to get a Warlock quest today. I basically never net-deck, but decided to try this one on a whim. Holy **** this deck is fun to play. My first decent decks in Hearthstone were basically HandLocks, and while this is quite different, the experience with that play style comes in very handy.
I have to say, Voidcaller deathrattle -> Jaraxxus + Defender of Argus is now my favorite thing in the game. I can only imagine what it must be like to be the opposing player when this play goes down. My guess would be slightly comical at first (because losing your Jaraxxus due to Voidcaller has to be a bad thing, right?) and then terrifying. Especially if they are a Priest. What the hell are they going to do with a 4/15 with taunt? Turns out, usually nothing, followed by losing quickly.
Full credit to Realz for a well played game and for picking a fun deck archetype. I just hope people don't start crediting Realz for "creating" a new archetype. For some reason Hearthstone people are really quick to give people credit for using cards in the way they were clearly designed to be used--both the pros and the rest of us on the forums who think we were first to have this "super clever" idea--props to deck poster for not doing that here.
As for the decklist, I've been playing a version with Sense Demons and Mountain Giant in it--they work pretty well as well if anyone's thinking about tweaking this to fit their cards/play style.
If that's how you feel about Loatheb, then you probably need more practice with it and when to use it. Loatheb is great for a few situations:
1) When you have set up a lethal for next turn, and the only thing that will stop you are spells from your opponent
2) When you're opponent has set up lethal, and they need to cast spells in order to get it
3) When you have set up a very strong board state, and want to allow your pressure to snowball
There are obviously other more specific scenarios, but Loatheb is a must-have in 98% of decks in my opinions because of the tremendous impact I've seen it have to close out a game or save you from a sudden defeat. If you have no other turn 5 play, then obviously drop Loatheb, but you shouldn't be in the mindset of "I don't know if I disrupted them or not" when you play it. That kind of thinking leads to misplays.
If you really want to replace it though, I think Sylvanas is a better option than Black Knight for it's deathrattle synergy with Power Overwhelming and Shadowflame.
There are more variations of this deck, and original thread discussing it over at /r/hearthstone: http://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/2csep0/just_got_to_rank_5_with_a_demon_deck_101/
There are some interesting things right there. Thanks for the post.
Have a deck that i made very similar to this.. been seeing this in ladder and thought people were stealing my deck :P. i dont use harvest golems jaraxus or moltens though. And i feel 2 owls are needed right now in this meta... Really hoping they release a felhound or something soon for a demon that silences :P And i run earthen far seers for heal as well.
When i play mine thats close to this.. Hunter is one of my easiest matchups.. Druid is a coin toss every game.
