This is a free-to-play deck after opening 10 classic packs and completing the Karazhan prologue. The 10 packs were acquired by completing the tutorial achievements and the promotional achievements. This deck is mainly comprised of basic and classic cards so it should be always be a part of Standard play.

Basic Mage cards are simple but effective, making it one of the easier classes to create an f2p deck. This deck relies on strong basic Mage spells combined with simple but valuable basic/classic minions.

This deck has a 14/16 split between spells and minions so it's critical to use spells to ensure that your minions survive. Minions will not survive forever but you'll want them to get as much damage in before you cycle them out. Try to ensure that minions like Chillwind Yeti, Water Elemental, Gurubashi Berserker, and Boulderfist Ogre stay on the board as long as possible.

Mana Wyrm is a fantastic card. Buff it and protect it with cheap and early cards like Arcane Missiles, Mirror Image and Frostbolt. Even The Coin is an excellent way to start off aggressively if you have a corresponding turn 2 and 3.

Fireball should be used with caution. Try to utilize other removal cards such as Polymorph or combos like Frostbolt/Frost Nova + Doomsayer if possible. Fireball can provide a 6-12 burst directly to the face, acting as a suitable win condition.

Frost Nova + Doomsayer is a devastating board clearing combo but make sure it's the right move before playing it. It's riskier to play this combo mid/late game if you don't have a read on what your opponent's deck is. Doomsayer is easier to remove than a lot of people think.

Don't worry too much about losing Sorcerer's Apprentice early. Even without the cheaper spells, it has great aggressive stats. Don't hesitate to play them early, as this deck does not rely on discounted spells. However, try to hold onto Acidic Swamp Ooze against weapons-based classes.

This deck only has three Taunt cards. Mirror Image should be used to buff and protect your early Mana Wyrms. Both Ironfur Grizzly and Lord of the Arena are boring but consistent ways of putting damage on the board. Utilize freeze to control the board to compensate for the lack of taunts.

As with many f2p decks, this deck will take a few plays to understand and may be frustrating to learn. That said, I think this deck relies and enforces basic fundamentals necessary in Hearthstone. This deck should act as a free/cheap ticket of entry into understanding Hearthstone and what kind of a game it is.

I did get lucky with my 10 packs and was able unpack the Mana Wyrms and Sorcerer's Apprentices. I only had to craft Doomsayer. Still, this is a 640 dust deck, with 400 of it going to Doomsayer. It should be easy to craft within the space of 10 packs.
