Hey guys,
Secret mage is so awesome at the moment! Go ahead and outsmart your opponent. Paladin wants to cast their Spikerigged steed? Oops, Spellbender! Tirion? Oops, It's a sheep!
Definiely give it a shot, and don't forget to bm to mess with their mind!
Mulligan:
Without coin: Babbling Book Kabal Lackey Mana Wyrm Arcanologist Keeping Primordial Glyph is fine if you already have decent cards in your hand. Medivh's Valet is a keep only if you already have the "ramp secret card" and a secret.
With coin: Same as cards without coin + Kirin Tor Mage
Keep secrets only if: The general tip is to keep secrets only if you already have already have Kabal Lackey or Kirin Tor Mage. But it's class dependent which ones u keep:
Druid: Mostly token/flood verisons, keep Spellbender Counterspell to catch their marks and AoE buffs.
Hunter: Potion of Polymorph is really the MVP in this matchup, That feel when it hits Highmane! But its good enough even on Kindly Grandmother. Keeping Counterspell is also fine.
Mage: Keep Counterspell only.
Paladin: Keep Spellbender to dodge their Blessing of Kings and Spikeridged Steed, Counterspell for the same purpose,
Priest: Keep every secret except Ice Block
Rogue: This is where secrets really shine, quest rogue has almost no chance to complete their quest. Counterspell Can even cancel their quest if played on turn 1 with Kabal Lackey. Potion of Polymorph can polymorph their "bounce quest" card. and Spellbender can easily take out their Shadowstep
Shaman: Keep everything except Ice Block
Warlock: I dont think that u'll ever meet one, but if you do it's going to be zoo, which is the same case as Token druid.
Warrior: Keep everything except Ice Block.
Gameplan and strategy
Get ahead early with your high tempo minions and then lock your opponent by playing secrets so they can't respond to your board.
For example against Taunt Warrior you try to play your Counterspell right when you think he's about to brawl your board, or if you have high statted minon which is damaged and you know he's about to execute, just place your Spellbender.
Overall, deck specializes on HUGE temposwings and mindgames. Don't play your Counterspell when u you know they started with The Coin and they still haven't used it. Try to always think ahead of your opponent, try to guess what is their next turn going to be and based on that you choose what secret you want to play.
I wish you a lot of funny moments and concedes of your opponents !

Ice block is so much better. Focus on swing turns. I am 30-9 with this deck right now. I lost a few to misplay mainly, or mages with more resources.
"a single random spell is *really* inconsistent" so three random spellls must be much more consistent right??
Guess I'll find out. Going to do 10ish games tonight ;) Thanks for the input
I'm fairly new to HS and have yet to play a long-game type of deck so I've actually wanted to speed the deck up lol. Besides dropping the iceblock, I kinda want to replace the arcane intellects with something. Maybe a loot hoarder+cabalist's tome(great idea from yours).
That said, I like your ideas. Adding another acolyte sounds like a great choice since it forces removal or pays for itself next turn. I'm not a big fan of dropping out the kirin tor mage. I've seen good value from them. The one issue I see with your changes is lack of removal? You're dropping out both firelands portal and poly, both of which are really the only removal, correct?
Yes, 3 random spells is more consistent than 1 random spell.
If you pick random numbers from 1 to 10, the more numbers you pick, the less variation there will be in the outcome. This is just basic statistics involving the mean and standard deviation of what is expected. Speaking on a slightly different but related tangent, 3 random spells will more often than not come out as 3 different spells -- possibly 1 pyroblast, 1 mirror image, 1 shatter. Individually, each of those spells might leave you high and dry, but together, they can allow you to pursue a winning game plan.
you are picking three times numbers from 1 to 10 not picking one time 3 numbers from 1 to 10 anyways blizzard algorithm doesn't looks completely random (and random algorithms are at some point not that random in the computational paradigm) so you can't apply your statistic theory here bro.. anyways cabalist usally gets you better spells but no 1/1..
Really fun deck. I love that its so flexible.. It also really illustrates how really bad players gravitate towards decks like quest rogue.. It should not be so easy to counter-spell their quest reward, but they fall right into it on a fairly regular basis.. just shows they have no idea how to play the game other than auto-pilot decks. Even at the better ranks (5-legend) you can burn quest rogues
Awesome deck bro. Love that it's low cost too! Only had to spend 2200 dust to make this fun deck. 4-1 so far, only lost to a murloc pally who drew incredibly well(and I drew poor). One thing I didn't expect about this deck is how quickly it demoralizes people. Two of my games they quit by turn 4. And just went lethal on a quest rogue on turn 5.
Not a bad deck, it's strong against many current meta decks I trounced this deck with value medivh mage though.
where are your gameplay stats? ranks? another rank 20 deckbuilder detected.
voted down.
Sorry, but KEEP means keep on hand?
Sure, what else?
Keep in your collection? ^^
I used to play a similar build a few days ago and just tried yours which is solid as well. Deck is strong, but from time to time (with a sub optimal start) it is not working out for you. So far I am at 5-2 with your version, only lost to two greedy decks due to non existent comeback mechanics. If it is over, it`s over and there is really nothing you can then find from the top :P
Anyway, a bit of gameplay I made: VOD Tempo Secret Mage
Youtube-Player:
any replacement for primodial glyph until i can craft em?
thanks!
Theres a lot of things you can replace it with, but if you're going to play any mage deck, you need to craft glyph ASAP.. its just too good.. and its going to probably be an auto-include in every single mage deck for the next two years before it rotates
that feeling when you counter Rogue's quest <3
the guy in the description's video is the proof that anyone can win with this deck! Noobs are welcome!
This deck eats quest rogues for breakfast, thank you!!
only if you get lucky
