I greet you!
I'm here to build a deck for Gul'dan's quest and make it great once and for all! :)
This deck will probably see some changes in the near future.
Explanation
The main problem with the new Warlock quest is that everyone want to build it like an aggro-zoo deck. It will definitely NOT work that way.
We should build the quest deck in a slightly different midrange oriented way. In this stage of the game there are enough stuff which could give you advantage for discarded cards. Here are some tips and whys for the deck below.
Tips
- Stonehill Defender is an easy way to fill your hand, protect yourself and discover Lakkari Felhound,
- Earthen Ring Farseer can help you to heal yourself and your damaged minions to be comfortably on board,
- Most of the time you don't need to play the quest in the 1st Turn. Mistress of Mixtures, Flame Imp and Voidwalker is much more perfect 1 drops.
- There are some main factor in gameplay: Mulligan, and how can you manage your Lakkari Felhound, Doomguard and Malchezaar's Imp. It needs some (not so hard) strategy.
- Most of the time (in general) you can complete the quest in Turn 7 and you can play Nether Portal (and probably a fatted Clutchmother Zavas) in the next turn.
- Some control cards like Elise the Trailblazer, Abyssal Enforcer and Shadowflame could easily fit in the deck.
- If you don't have to then never play Clutchmother Zavas while the quest isn't completed. It is a guaranted card what you can discard every turn. In some situations it is much more important than a 4/4 body on the board. But it is really good with Shadowflame too.
- Why Chittering Tunneler? It is both a fun factor and an out-of-jail card. Really flexible and really random too. :D It has potential because in this type of deck there aren't any space for spells and every matchup needs different tools. So it seems like a good solution for this problem.
UPDATING IN PROGRESS...
Interesting Deck! I also run Prince Malchezaar in a similar deck and he actually works quite well with Cruel Dinomancer to summon heavy legendaries on turn 7. Also I find Sense Demons quite useful to finish the quest much faster.
This deck intrigues me quite a bit; I've already constructed it.
So far it's really fun; keep up the great work on it and hopefully people come up with interesting swap-outs for the deck!
So far I'm thinking about adding something into this for curve and just can't decide on what...
I'd be taking out an Earthen Ring Farseer.
Currently trying Prince Malchezaar
Edit: Prince Malchezaar was DEFINITELY worth it.
Dr. Booms, Alexstraza and other leggos in and out of rotation make it very much worth having it around since not all legendaries are created equally, then they become feed to the Discard :D
The prince is a really interesting choice. It could be better than the Elise pack but when you draw random legends instead of your discard cards then you will be sad.
I've not really found much issue yet in that regard.
It does make me have to use Malchezaar's Imp a lot more aggressively though.
It makes Mulligan a little bit more involved though too.
My only issue with the Elise card pack strategy is that it's meant for Discard Fodder in its core to the deck; but those cards are limited outside of that. She's a great 5 5 5 card, but I find her battlecry on the slow side against certain match-ups. It's up for debate whether or not I want to keep her in the deck since I honestly don't even see Elise most of the time in the game, pre Prince change or current. But I keep her in the deck because when I do; that she does provide utility in similar fashion that Prince does, just on a lighter scale.
I play this deck in a very heavy control fashion however, so that may explain what I've said.
I almost debated about even removing the Cruel Dinomancer in place for a lower mana cost card like Lorewalker Cho or Shifter Zerus as well, but I figured the exchange for Lorewalker Cho was very risky considering the only spells in the deck and how an opponent could benefit from letting him stay alive, as well as Shifter Zerus possibly never being played depending on his random card outputs. So at the moment, my thoughts are exchanging Cruel Dinomancer in for a Kabal Trafficker for hand card generation as well as potentially pocketing a powerful demon such as Mal'Ganis or even another Discard demon like the ones in the deck.
If you haven't grabbed it from all this; I like using strange tech choices.
shall give it a try looks like fun deck :D
edit
first game i played against C'thun priest ended by turn 8 didnt even get to use the portal haha
i like your deck, if i get the cards, i will immediately try it out
bravo on making the deck more mid-range, i like the zavas + shadowflame combo, chittering for more spells or as a discard option, same thing for the elementals and also argus
and especially for a better start:
