19/09/2017: deck updated for the post-nerf Koft meta.
The deck still does well against the overall field. Unfortunately not much you can do about a turn 5 Giant board though.
Keep mana wyrm, arcanologist and mad scientist as a general guide. Keep lackey with a secret but don't really play the lackey unless you need the tempo, otherwise hold for maximum tempo. Keep medivh's valet vs warrior, you'll need it to survive pirates.
Budget replacement: Boom; + Faceless Summoner
Duplicate guide: Kabal Crystal Runner if you have the board, Azure Drake for the strong body, if you need tempo go for the 2/3 Valet. Ethereal Arcanist and Dr. Boom are good as well, other cards are just trash duplicates.
Secret guide: Don't play Counterspell when they have the coin. Kabal Lackey + Secret is ONLY a powerful play when you have a turn 2 to follow up, otherwise hold it. Kabal Lackey + Duplicate (Effigy) is not a good play, but since tempo is king in this deck, don't hesitate to play the combo against fast decks. Play Counterspell after they finish their quest. They'll likely not fall for it but they might have to delay their powerful turn, or if they don't have another spell bad luck. Against Secret Paladin, play Mirror Entity before his turn 6 or you'll lose the tempo battle. Against Pirate Warrior, try to Duplicate the Medivh's Valet. Against Egg Druid, play Counterspell as soon as possible, because board buffs are his strongest plays. Against control, play Duplicate on powerful minions and Counterspell to protect that minion or a big board. But if you don't have any other plays other than secret, don't hesitate to play them.
Secret techs: Potion of Polymorph can be swapped out for Mirror Entity and vice versa
Effigy swap with Duplicate
Effigy swap with Ice Block
Actual footage of me playing the deck for reference: https://hsreplay.net/replay/8Nuas3Mz4kjUPEarSvy6zL
https://hsreplay.net/replay/WSkY3hTmuN2BcTuwJdandN (I made a critical misplay in this match playing a second Arcanist into Sylvanas because I was playing so fast. Luckily I still won. Don't do it guys)
I added 2 Effigy in the newest version, it's working great for pushing tempo. I have excluded Dr. Boom and added in Firelands Portal because of Boom bots anti-synergy. Some lists play Loatheb, some play Mana Wyrms, some play Unstable Portal. Lots of room for you to tinker around.
Hello,
Just created an account to thank you for your deck. I haven't played a lot but I used to be around rank 18-16 (yes, I have always been very bad at this kind of game), now I'm at rank 7 and probably have about 50% win ratio at this rank, which is amazing for me.
I swapped 1 Mana Wyrm to keep a second Kabal Lackey because I feel like I can't get this card in early game otherwise.
Anyways thank you, first time I'm really having fun playing a deck!
Edit: Well, now I just got rank 4!
Hey,
Currently a lot of tracking sites are showing some love for your deck due to Winrates ratio.
Of course the new changes will take consideration once players help playing 1000 recorded games, but Congratulations!
Wow that's great to hear. Thanks for the info!

What about Arcane Giant? Works great with Effigy and Duplicate, and this deck has a lot of spells now, maybe Flamewaker would help too
I was skeptical of this deck at first, but now I'm convinced. I was stuck at Rank 8 and using Pirate Warrior to climb. The biggest problem I was having with Pirate Warrior was draw inconsistency. I fell back to Rank 9 which made me look for other options. I tried the secret mage deck and I hit Rank 7 for the first time this season. I had a lot of opponents just concede. One paladin conceded after I mirror entitied his Tirion. I think he still had 15 health even and I'm not even sure I could have one the match if he had stuck with it. Some people may concede out of frustration playing against this deck. The version of this deck I found does not use Ice Block and includes Loetheb. I think Loetheb can help against annoying Quest Rogue and against other Mages.
I have tried this deck extensively. It is insanely good. You can beat just about anything as long as you don't draw terribly. I won 12 games in a row from rank 4 to rank 2, playing against a wide variety of decks, and defeated a pirate warrior to reach legend. Thanks for such an amazing deck.
Very strong deck, I played only a few games at rank 8 but i have 3-0 wins. Let's see how far i will get
It stopped working for me too... Currently rank 9 and 3-8 wins
Just tried this deck. Quite fun!
Secret Mage has always been a fun deck, it's starting to get more and more consistent as new cards come in, too!
About the secret choices; I actually like Potion of Polymorph in place of Mirror Entity. It doesn't add an extra threat to your board, but blanking your opponent's taunt, or combo piece, or charge, or just a sizable minion can be so incredibly punishing.
Also, with both Mad Scientist and Arcanologist, it feels like the deck can go down to just 5 secrets. Curious about your impressions on that.
I don't think it's a good idea. If you draw your Secrets first, it'd render your Scientist and Arcanologist useless later on in the match. And you need Secrets to discount your Runner because secrets from Scientist won't count, as well as secrets to activate your Arcanist. Mage Secrets are playable on their own, so I don't think we need to cut down.
Potion of Polymorph sounds like a good idea. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
I added one Potion of Polymorph and one Ice Barrier instead of one Mirror Entity and one Duplicate, it works very well and it add more randomness witch I always like :)
Also you can stack more different secrets
A fair point; so far the lesser number of secrets hasn't been a problem yet, but I do run 2 Arcane Intellect in place of Duplicate essentially, compared to your list. I'll try the switch as they have comparable effects, but the latter has all the secret synergies.
I'm actually a big fan of Potion of Polymorph now. Highlights so far have been polymorphing Southsea Captain against Pirate Warrior, a taunt that would have prevented lethal against Taunt Warrior, and Nerubian Egg against Egg Druid. I don't think there's been an instance so far where I wished I had copied my opponent's minion rather than blanked their play.
I have played 30 games with Potion of Polymorph,
LOSSES increased.the BIG problem is the combination of this secret with Mirror Entity,
that happens a lot, with Mad Scientist's deathrattle you can't avoid often,
so annoying, so ridiculous invaluable play, opponent always send emotes after dat.
The secret is good against Pirates and Egg Druids, that's true, but against Control... ugh!
Potion of Polymorph has been subpar for me. On the other hand, Effigy is awesome. I recommend you guys try it out
So far so good, from rank
19to 10 on a score of 22-5 w/ the old version (2x Faceless Summoner) but then I start to lose from a ridiculous amount of games to control archetypes. Guess i will see a lot of them until hit legend :C wanna try Dr. Boom + Loatheb definitely!Have some replays to share of these counters below?
★ N'zoth Priests
So many disadvantage! Deathlord with Dark Cultist AND/OR Power Word: Shield effects are huge! Lightbomb, heroic power by Justicar Trueheart, Sylvanas Windrunner, Sludge Belcher, Shifting Shade AND Crystalline Oracle stealing our secrets, N'zoth!? what a nightmare!
★ Handlocks
This deck make Mirror Entity awful. Mortal Coil, any 1-mana spell from Dark Peddler or Kazakus always mess with Counterspell, those Humongous Razorleaf w/ taunt are hard to pass through, Tar Lurker, Antique Healbot to make things health? Oh, don't forget Abyssal Enforcer that easily cleans a damaged board. Reno!? C'mon!
★ Demonlocks
For the same reasons, if Voidcaller drops Mal'Ganis or Doomguard before you settle a good board is game over. Darkbomb, Imp-losion, Demonwrath, it's very painful but this deck type can manage spells and minions with simplicity avoiding mistakes to spend full mana spells on a turn to doing nothing due to a possibility of Counterspell.
Aggro types as you said are 50/50 if you have good tempo (zoos, secret paladins, murlocs) i agree with that but decks above are my 0% wins!
i'd appreciate what you think, Thanks!
Against Control decks, it's down to getting the board early and play a good Counterspell. You need to get your board and play the Counterspell when it's big enough to protect it, and also get value out of your Duplicates.
