PSA: As I've just come to realize she runs Oozes! I feel like the Eaglehown Bow is still a very efficient way of putting damage, I will see if there's a need to make changes accordingly though!
Hey guys! I just beat Heroic Maexxna and I want to share this really well working deck with you. Even though the Heroic bosses have 45 Health, Maexxnas ability to toss 2 minions back to your hand for free left me with the conclusion that rush is the only logical approach, thus I created a Hunter deck, tweaked it a little and had success twice now!
Warning: The following paragraphs, inevitably, contain spoilers regarding Maexxna, if you have not faced her yet you might want to stop here!
General Strategy:
So, let's kick this off. As mentioned, the main perk of Heroic Maexxna is the ability to bounce back whatever you play for 0 mana. That makes it really hard to justify playing anything but charge creatures, you'd have to play at minimum 3 creatures per turn to develop any kind of board. Another thing to abuse is the fact that she Starts with, and further develops Haunted Creepers. In how far does this benifit you? Well, this is where we determine the first card you want to mulligan for:
The Explosive Trap will help you get rid of the Haunted Creepers and turn them into Spectral Spider tokens. These, you want to keep on the field as long as you can afford to, since it will give you incredible value using the second card you will dig for:
The reasoning is simple, the AI seems to be programmed to ignore the little threads and only dispose of big minions and minions that buff. So, your hounds or at least most of them, will usually stay on the field. This will enable your Kill Commands to be Fireballs on steroids, they should, in almost any case hit Maexxna directly, as you will be in need of quite some burn to get rid of 45 Points of Health. Do see, however, that Maexxna will aim to get rid of Timber Wolf, so use them efficiently!
Well, the rest of the deck is pretty self explanatory, Tracking helps you thin out the deck and dig for your answers really well, flare does so as well, but I personally only chose one of them since you prefer to use all your mana dealing damage if you can. Flare is just a slower Tracking in that regard. Charges go to the face, Leokk can be used after unleashing hounds if it's bounced back to your hand, a free Huffer mashine is really nice as well. Misha is largely useless, unfortunately, but I figure that's a risk one has to take.
What you have to be careful about:
Maexxna will, if you successfully fill her board with tokens, hardly be able to play any minions anymore. 2 minions seem to come out very often though, one of them evidently scripted. First there is the Sludge Belcher. This is a card you'll pretty simply just have to dispose of, you can use Hunters Mark, Leeroy Jenkins (He will not get the Whelps when his field is filled), or whatever fits your needs. Beware of taking the damage to the face though, since you will mostly not take care of her minions and take quite some damage already.
Then, she will also play a Sea Giant if she's able to. This following part is one I'm still not 100% sure about, bu the two times I've ran into the situation Maexxna actually did not hestitate to run in Sea Giant first, even if you have a trap. So aside from saving a Hunters Mark and straight up removing it another option is to let it run into a Misdirection. Whatever it hits, you will have been saved from 8 points of damage. If the Giant hits Maexxna you just about win there, if your previous turns went in any way well the damage should be enough!
With all this said, bad draws or Animal Companion RNG will give you an increasingly harder and harder time winning this fight. You can never be sure what exactly Maexxna will do, the only thing you know is she will use her hero ability at the start of each turn. Thus, a deck like this is generally the best strategy to be the victor in the battle against Maexxna! If you have any questions feel free to ask them here or add me in Hearthstone, Vijce#2689 on EU Servers!
Alrighty guys, video of how this deck works against Maexxna is up and running!
thank you for the deck. worked like a charm
Got it first try with this deck! Thank you man!
EASIEST WAY TO WIN: EXPLOSIVE TRAP THEN LET HIS SPIDERS FILL HIS BORD AND LET THEM SURVIVE. THEN USE HEALBOT FROM TURN 5 ON EACH TURN AND FROM TURN 7 ON USE CHARGE OR HERO POWER TO SLOWLY KILL HIM!!!
This is so great. First try. Opening hand? Explosive and Healbot.
Maexxna's first two plays? Creepers. GFG
Thank you!
update ungoro xD cult apothecary can save your ass even more
Great deck! Got her on the first try with it. I didn't have Leeroy, so I substituted a Reckless Rocketeer (which is not as good, since it's 1 more mana and 1 less attack, but I didn't end up needing it anyway). As Vijce said, the real strength of this deck lies in Explosive Trap flooding her board with 1/1s and then using Unleash the Hounds. I drew a Timber Wolf to buff them all up, and it was pretty much a done deal.
As with all strategy in Heartstone, there is a bit of RNG involved in this approach, and will only work if a couple things line up for you. I was lucky in that I drew everything I needed early enough to pull it off, and she returned the Timber Wolf to my hand twice in a row when I had 6-7 minions out which prevented her from killing it. What are the odds, right? But even so, I feel like this deck is MUCH more reliable than anything else I've tried or put together myself. Definitely recommended!
Worked first try. Thanks!
Got her first try with this deck, couldn't get her with FH...........
10 attempts no kill, not even close. Seems that it's all about 3-4 creepers from him then explo then hounds and win. Never got all of those at same time. Always missing something. Changing deck to something that actually works
edit: Yeah first attempt dead with that freeze mage deck
If you haven't tried it yet, a guaranteed win is to get explosive trap and healbot in your opening hand, if she plays 2 creepers.
Just restart until you get this hand, flood her board with 7 1/1s and heal for 8 every turn. It's a 20+ turn game but works 100%.
Thanks for the idea. Made it really easy.
are you guys doing this on heroic? 5 tries and I cant get her under 35
In case you don't have a Leeroy (or dusted him due to the nerf), check out our video using the Healadin deck!
Won on the 3rd try!!!! Thanks
Beat her the second try (pretty easily) with this deck.
Compared to the other Maexxna deck (the healing ones), I find this more exciting and less cheesy.
Great deck, thanks! I got it second try thanks to dropping a second Leokk and then an unleash the hounds. Finished off his remaining 17 HP and could have done another 4 or so damage on top of that.
It took a few attempts to get the right opening hand but once I got the right cards I destroyed her with no issues at all.
A quick and easy victory with a cple of tweeks
I replaced the Deckhands with Blue gill warriors, Leroy Jenkins for Snake Trap, and Hunters Mark for Raid Leaders
With the Raid Leaders and Timber wolf with a screen full of Hounds it was over very quickly with thanks to a timely Explosive Trap :-)
Thankyou for the Deck Idea
Same as most other commenters, I added some heal and got it by drawing an expl. trap to fill her board with 1/1s, then got another one to stave off her dmg by a turn - and of course she couldn't play ooze (or anything big) because board full. Here's mine:
Oh, and Leeroy was MVP, too - fireball to face each turn with no downside. Nice.
I beat the boss using a slightly modified version of this deck, I didn't have Leeroy or an arcane golem so I threw in 2 voodoo guys. I won with the first attempt as I drew Explosive Trap and Hounds in the opening draw, by the end of the second round the spider's board was filled with 1/1s, third round I had a board full of dogs.
