Card Breakdown | |
---|---|
Alleycat | I really like this as a one-drop, it is hunters' Living Roots. It is also a great pairing with Starving Buzzard for drawing two cards, and other beastly things. |
Fiery Bat | Also a good one-drop, but less-so than Alleycat here, so only one. It can be quite a nice vessel for Smuggler's Crate with the coin, though. |
Smuggler's Crate | A cheap buff for a beast that is worth having. In this deck several beast offer benefits as a result of additional stats. |
Kindly Grandmother | A reasonable two-drop that has nice synergy with other cards' battlecries or active effects. |
Scavenging Hyena | This card buffs itself! Mostly. If you manage to get a turn one Alleycat and they both live for turn two a hyena will be quite scary, if you can trade. |
Forlorn Stalker | The original goons card, and the only one hunters can use to buff multiple cards at once. There are some great targets in this deck, and usually even one can be worth it. I aim for at least two minions if i can. |
Rat Pack | Sticky as hell! Don't be afraid to play it without buffs if you need to, because it is literally a cheaper Infested Wolf. The tokens it summons can do all kinds of things for us. |
Shaky Zipgunner | I am glad that this buff targets all minions and not just beasts. It's a great three-drop. |
Dispatch Kodo | I really enjoy this card and the tempo it creates. I often just play it as is when i need to remove a minion that can give me board advantage. As it's attack climbs it can become pretty scary. If you have a Tundra Rhino on board you can attack with it too! |
Houndmaster | He let the dogs out. |
Starving Buzzard | This card has been shit on for a while because of it's nerf, but i think it finally has enough support to be worth playing again. There's lots of beasts to be summoned and lots of opportunities for card draw. Buffing it is even better. |
Tundra Rhino | This is the most obvious way to win a game. If this lasts more than one turn you'll quickly destroy your opponent with beasts. Those that summon more beasts upon death are like fantastic warcraft nesting beasts of death. |
Savannah Highmane | RAWR! |
Loot Hoarder | Early-game card draw that accepts the odd buff as well. You'll want to cycle this without haste. |
Emperor Cobra | Honestly forgot about this card sometimes, but the unique poison effect can be very powerful. It becomes a huge priority for your opponent to clear. If you combo it with Tundra Rhino you can destroy any minion! |
Barnes | He does work. Many of these cards would be great to have a copy of. If i can i try to avoid using him as a four-drop, but it is quite acceptable if you do. |

I removed both Buzzards because they are crap in this deck. Also removed one rat pack. Finally removed one cobra.
Added in two Kill Commands, one Animal Companion, and one Princess Huhuran.
Deck works much better now.
honestly i played this deck a lot and its complete shit.... easy to play but is trash in the current meta gonna wait till next xpac to play hunter NO REACH
I think this is the worst deck i've ever tried
Signed in to say this deck sucks. Way too slow, no clear, weak, very hard to maintain a board.
I love midrange Hunter, really do, the first meta deck I've every played seriously. I have 160+ wins with that, before it fall out of meta, but this deck is just weak, I mean really weak against everything. I went 0-6 with that today.
I can't handle a turn 3 Brann Bronzebeard with it, and if I can't deal with a 4 health minion I auto loose against Dragon and Reno Priests, Reno Mages, Temo Mages, not to mention Jade Shaman.
I feel like this deck is more of a theorycraft than a real one. Although it can work if you can curve out nicely, and have god hand, but it's unlikely.
Running a version of this with Cult Masters instead of Buzzard. Works much smoother with Unleash the Clowns and the non-beast minions in the deck, of which there are a lot.
One thing I'll say about this deck is I think the deathrattle sub-theme is bad to be mixing with handbuff. Buffing things like Savannah Highmane is pointless because an 8/7 will die to everything a 6/5 dies to, and the deathrattle is the same. I'd rather have things with charge or taunt getting buffed.
Also the deck needs Kill Command and Quick Shot, those are not optional. The burst and removal are too important to close games out. I'm also testing King Krush. I think the biggest concern for hunter decks in general isn't losing to warriors in the early game but being able to win the long Reno game. High burst on top of a strong curve is the only way I see that happening. Just playing mid-tier dudes into an endless sea of removal seems weak.
Overall good deck so far, good thread.
Write up is good, deck is bad. Hunter just doesn't have the tools to compete in Standard. The goal of Hunter is an explosive start, then using your powerful hero power to finish off an opponent. However, your start won't beat that of Zoo, Pirate Warrior, or Jade Shaman. You don't run board clears, so if you fall behind you lose immediately, so any higher tempo deck or even higher tempo opening will make you lose. Control decks have a full heal on turn 6 and high tempo swing turns that can be devastating to try and recover from. The meta simply hates Hunter right now, and we would need a TON of sticky, horrible to deal with deathrattle cards to fix it in the current state Hunter is. Still, it'll win you some games, so if you need a quest done you might as well use this. The deck is kinda fun to play, lots of neat combos and fun decisions. Just sad that most of those decisions boil down to "If I don't do this, I fall behind and instantly lose."
This is the most beautiful guide I've ever seen. Nice work!
Thank! Much appreciated :)
i realy tried, playing fun hunter deck which is viable. it just isnt happening.
lose lose lose lose lose WIN lose lose lose lose
not to criticize, its a good deck. just cant compete. and its realy fkcin annoying when you know you have no chance from start..
garbage deck, 1-6 at rank 10 WTF ?
You must be really bad then...
Nice Write Up!
I want to like this, I really do. But either I'm doing something wrong or just drawing like shit since I just went 0-5 with this. Maybe in a couple months.....
Yeah same, most decks in the meta have so much removal in them that minion decks that aren't super handbuff heavy like paladin are destined to fail.
worst deck i ever played
Stomped by damn near every deck I've run into save for Priest decks. I want to love Hunter, but the meta doesn't :<
Sorry but yeah, this deck is really bad
