Hello everyone! I'm Spark, Legend player from France. Today I wanted to share with you my updated Control Shaman, which is designed to beat consistently Aggro decks while still keeping up against Reno decks.
As always, it runs the full set of board clears to annihilate the swarm of aggro decks. You also have access to a solid healing potential thanks to Healing Wave and Hallazeal the Ascended. On top of that, I'm also running Earth Elemental with a single Ancestral Spirit to prevent further aggression.
With all the overload cards in the deck, Lava Shock is a natural choice to compensate the downside while adding a little bit of damage to control some minions. Lightning Bolt help dealing with early aggression and Hex is obviously here to deal with stronger threats.
Besides the standard set of Control tools, I chose to run something different from my previous N'Zoth, the Corruptor variant. This time I'm using Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound instead!
As I want to optimize the chance of getting a solid Barnes play, the deck almost only runs valuable targets for it! That's why I chose to run Ancestral Knowledge and Feral Spirit instead of Azure Drake and Thing from Below.
To make use of Barnes and Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound, I chose to run solid win conditions : White Eyes, Emperor Thaurissan, Sylvanas Windrunner, Ragnaros the Firelord and Ysera.
Update
As the Miracle Rogue matchup felt really annoying and Aggro Shaman gave me a little bit more issue than expected in the long run, I tweaked the deck a little bit.
I'm now running Devolve to deal better with Miracle Rogue boards and Shaman Aggro when you can't really clear them properly.
Stormcrack comes in to deal with 4-health minions such as Totem Golem and Azure Drake.
Finally, I added the second Ancestral Spirit for its synergy with the win conditions and Barnes summoning mechanic.
Replacements
Please don't ask for replacements, I know the deck is pretty expensive but it's just impossible to find similar win conditions in term of value and synergy.
However, If you only lack 2 of the final conditions, it is possible to replace them with a combination of Cairne Bloodhoof and N'Zoth, the Corruptor. And if you only lack one you can run this set up as well by giving up on Ancestral Spirit. Malygos is also a fine win condition although a bit more situational.
Matchups & Mulligan
I've written a full in-depth guide about the deck at Good Gaming. I definitely recommend to give it a check if you want to learn how to pilot the deck properly.

Results
I'm eating Aggro decks all day long with this build and Reno decks aren't really an issue. Jade Druid is obviously an awful matchups as the Jade Golem are just getting out of Control.
I hit Legend on EU during S34 using mostly this deck. Here are my win-rates :
Gameplay Video
Here is a cool win streak I've had on stream facing some aggro decks and a renolock (french commentary)
Bonus : N'Zoth Jade Variant
As a bonus, here is my other Control Shaman build, which is centered around N'Zoth and Jade synergies : Jade Zoth Control Shaman
The deck also counters pretty well aggro decks but feels slightly less efficient to me, feel free to try it as well ;)
Closing
I hope you'll enjoy the deck as much as I do and maybe it can help you reach Legend this season. Don't forget to show your support by upvoting the deck if you liked and don't hesitate to discuss about it or ask any question in the comment section below ;)

I really like this deck and all but I struggle against aggro Shaman because they can just fill their board again immediately after I clear
Any Tips ?
You need to mulligan really hard for early removals : bolt, portal and storm. Check the in-depth guide, the matchup is supposed to be favorable. It's harder than Aggro Pirate, but honestly should be fine in the long run
Which one would be more important for the deck: Hallazeal the Ascended or White Eyes? I'd really want to play shaman tha doesn't rely on jades or pirates, but at the very moment I can afford only one of those at the time (+ an epic or two, if I try hard enough, which will probably be Elemental Destructions)
I'd say White Eyes overall, Hallazeal can be replaced by a Jinyu
I dunno with this deck hallazeal many times has been a 20+ point heal and board clear with elemental destruction... game changer
edit: just happened, turned a loss to a win:

Yep timing is key :)
Ahah yeah, well in the end they tend to put good pressure on you so you're not always guaranteed to have this kind of play, more often you'll clear without hallazeal, but could happen as well :)
Nice results! thanks for the feedback and good luck for the climb!
Hi Spark! I love playing shaman but as of late ive just found all this aggro and jade types so boring to play. AND THEN i found this and I'm having a blast with it. I think im only like 4-1 with it as of right now but this deck is just too awesome. Great job man! +1
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoy the fresh playstyle :D
Im also kind of wondering the same thing not because i dont have Yshaarj but because so far I haven't really gotten a lot of value with Emperor. Plus Cairne could be another good card to use Ancestral Spirit on as well. Especially if he's pulled out with Barnes. Just a thought.
It honestly depends on what you're facing most of the time. In the end, N'Zoth could be enough as a sub. Otherwise adding Cairne can be tricky because Thaurissan allows for combos against Control and can help a bit more against Aggro. On the other hand, Ancestral Spirit helps with the Elemental against Aggro and can be useful against Control as well.
In the end, I'd say that you're not forced to include Cairne as the balance is good already, if you really want to I'd still say Ancestral Spirit is the card to cut.
Yes she has fun interaction with the deck, but in the end it's more niche/situational
If your environant metagame isn't appropriate, don't play this deck!
Interesting to play but very high cost mana for my luck , and also i need luck pulling out those overload unlock cards so i could continue with mid game tempo
Really enjoy the deck, thanks for posting and the nice write up. Its a very different style of playing for me. I'm so used to tempo plays and the way your deck is built, often you just hero power and pass. Makes you think of your next two or three moves ahead, juggling overload and waiting for that perfect Elemental Destruction. Going to take it on ladder for the rest of the season after about 30 games learning it on casual with about a 70% win rate. Thanks again! I'm thinking of swapping out something for Devolve. As another person posted, seems like the biggest weakness of the deck is miracle rogue (honestly most of my losses) and it would wreck their concealed dudes.
Yes that's it, Overload requires more thinking than usual and timing with board clears is key. Indeed Miracle Rogue is really annoying with this deck, and Devolve could deal with that. I think I would remove either a Bolt or a Portal for that, however remember that it will slightly decrease consistency against Aggro.
Yes, I didn't included it because of all the board clears already in the deck and they are generally better at dealing with aggro, which is the aim of the deck originally. However if you struggle against Rogue and Dragon Priest this is indeed a good tech ;)
Really enjoying this deck - nothing like the instant concedes after healing back to full and wiping the board :-)
Quick question - I was wondering if you'd toyed around with Malygos in this deck at all. With Emperor and the potential combos with lightning bolt / lava shock I was thinking it might be an easy way to finish control decks with some surprise burst damage. Could also get lucky with Barnes and pull off a crazy combo. I was thinking of putting it in instead of Y'Shaarj.
Thanks for the deck!

Yeah I tried Malygos in the deck originally, found it a bit situational, but a good win condition overall ;)
Hey Spark!
Absolutely fantastic deck. Shaman is my favourite class but lately i haven't been enjoying it much, but after finding about this deck i've been back to playing it and i love it. Got one question for you though, the only card i miss from the decklist is Y'shaarj but i'm not feeling like crafting it since it's not that usable, so i was about to ask you what card do you think i should replace it with?
