Hey guys this is dontbemad, multiple legend player from Germany.
After I finished season 33 at rank 215 legend with midrange shaman,
I started to climb with my own version of aggro shaman (which I have tested a lot during last season) very successful and hit rank 5 yesterday (2.1.17)
More and more people asked me ingame about my decklist so I decided to publish it here.
Now a lot of people are waiting for a guide so here it comes :
(I will sum up mulligan + playstyle for every match up this time)
Note: The mulligan with an aggro list like this is nearly the same in all match up's since you are always looking for 1 drop's , Totem Golem and weapon but there are still some little differences.
Mulligan + Playstyle:
Hunter & Paladin:
Both of them still does not exist on ladder (at least I did not face any in S33 & 34 until now)
so I can't really give an opinion about those match up's.
Priest:
Priest can be dragon or Reno version but I assume (and faced) more dragon versions at lower ranks (until Rank 5).
You mulligan for Small-Time Buccaneer, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem and Spirit Claws or Jade Claws (I would never keep both). You can keep Flametongue Totem if you have a 1 drop minion.
The game plan is to flood the board with your cheap early game minions and to have a weapon available. Use your burn spells to remove taunts like Wyrmrest Agent and Twilight Guardian.
Game plan sticks the same if your opponent is playing the reno version which is generally easier to rush down by 5 or 6 turns.
Rogue:
You mulligan for Small-Time Buccaneer, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem and Spirit Claws or Jade Claws.
I would always keep Maelstrom Portal to clear his turn one Swashburglar + Patches the Pirate
Try to remove his Tomb Pillager with Jade Lightning!
You win this matchup in most cases after his first Auctioneer turn with burst damage from hand.
Warlock:
This matchup is all about tempo since you want to wirn this game by turn 5 or 6!
Flametongue Totem is the key here !
You mulligan for Small-Time Buccaneer, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem and Spirit Claws or Jade Claws and Flametongue Totem.
I started to keep Earth Shock with coin + Totem Golem to counter his Doomsayer or Second-Rate Bruiser and it worked out to be really strong.
Warrior:
As you may have noticed, control warrior is getting more and more famous these days but I was lucky and did not face any in my early climb so I will only write about the pirate matchup.
You mulligan for Small-Time Buccaneer, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem and Spirit Claws or Jade Claws but the MVP in early game is Maelstrom Portal to clear his early board effective so you should always keep it!
In general this match up is more about board control so try to clear with weapon and portal in early game and remove his Frothing Berserker with burn spells !
In the end your opponent will have an empty board and you can kill him with burn spells or Leeroy Jenkins from hand
Mirror:
Since you will still face like 90% or more of the aggro versions, you mulligan for Small-Time Buccaneer, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem and Spirit Claws or Jade Claws . In addition, you should look for Maelstrom Portal again to clear his early game board (pirates).
If you have coin, you can think about to keep Flamewreathed Faceless since it can sometimes just be about who drops down the 7/7 first because you do not really have answers to this card.
Mirror is decided about the draw in most cases but since you have Leeroy Jenkins as some kind of unexpected 6 dmg from hand, you should be slightly favored!
In general you are looking for board control in this matchup!
Druid:
This is by far the easiest macht up and I was surprised about how mayn of them I was actually face on ladder during the first 2 days of the season where everyone is playing aggro lists..
Again, this macthup is all about tempo and rush him down asap so you mulligan for Small-Time Buccaneer, Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem and Spirit Claws or Jade Claws and Flametongue Totem.
Earth Shock is doing a great job in this matchup punishing his big taunts or in some cases even Fandral!
Mage:
The reno version is getting more and more popular but I only faced them by the end of last season at high legend ranks when I played midrange shaman so I cannot really give a good advise for this matchup playing aggro shaman atm.
Card choices:
I guess that people will wonder about my tech choices so here are some short points about Earth Shock in advance:
- you coin out Totem Golem in turn 1 = opponent plays Doomsayer= feels akward since you cannot answer with 1 mana overloaded = oh wait there is Earth Shock for a huge early temposwing
- you flood the board early with pirates = opponent plays 3 mana Second-Rate Bruiser on curve = you have to trade your board into it = oh wait there is Earth Shock for a huge early temposwing
- you play mirror and the opponent roles a lucky taunt totem in late game or topdecks Thing from Below to prevent lethal = not a problem with Earth Shock in hand
- you play vs rogue and your opponent plays a huge Edwin VanCleef on curve = not a problem with Earth Shock in hand
- you play vs druid and have an easy counter for his big taunts
- you play vs pirate warrior and his Frothing Berserker is getting crazy ? = not a problem with Earth Shock in hand
- you play vs renolock and he plays Twilight Drake = nice snack for 1 mana
summary : silence is a great tool in the current meta and earth shock is the best card to use it ! it works great for me in aggro shaman since you always have great targets and nobody will ever play around it so just give it a try ;)
Sir Finley Mrrgglton: you are obviously looking for smorc or lifetap hero power in like 95% of all cases but you have to think about taking the heal or tank up in some mirror matches for example.
Leeroy Jenkins: He can be more than a resident sleeper in this list because you can combo him with Maelstrom Portal if you do have an akward turn where you have to remove opponents board so keep this in mind!
Southsea Deckhand: as mentioned in the comments : I do not have much love for this card and only play 1 copy for the pirate synergy. You never want to play him in turn 1 or without weapon in general so it is often a dead card (that's why I cut 1x)
Patches the Pirate: I always notice that people are doing the same mistake when they draw him and just drop him down for non sense only for push 1 dmg face and spam WOW emote...
NOTE: if you draw him - be more smart and keep him on hand until you can combo him with Flametongue Totem or to do an effective trade with any minion on board which has 1 health left!
I can make a full guide, explaining my tech choices and the playstyle + mulligan in detail if this will get about 20 upvotes !
For people who want to see some gameplay:
Here is a very nice deck showcase made by kiwiinbacon
here is some more gameplay, thanks to Furo:
(he confirmed that he used the wrong jpg file - decklist in his video so he is playing 2 x spirit claws as in my list, not 2x deckhand and 2x feral spirits)
I would say it depends on the matchup since you have to fight for board sometimes so it can feel like midrange... your opponent did not play the casual piracle rogue and I actually never faced this jade version on ladder but in the end I am glad that it was an easy win for you (even without earth shock target = no big Edwin) GG
yeah, after upload that gameplay, actually I played 4x games, and all of them shows that this deck can be really aggro XD depend on what you got in hand and who is your enemy lol
I think this deck maybe not as fast as pirate warrior, but the positive thing is this deck can fight control well because of jades :)
Can we just stop with this bullshit?
Hey man, really like this decklist. playing aggro shaman for a few weeks and enjoying this list the most.. think its a legend worthy?
thank you :) yes it is 100 % !
I reached legend last season with the usual aggro shaman list (without leeroy, earth shock, drake) already than tested a lot in legend ranks and the result is this list. This season I got even better results so you can definitly make it to legend with this deck !
Thank you very much, hope i will reach it this season, struggling every season, reaching ranks 3-4, but not enough, maybe this is the one ;)
if you can reach rank 3-4 , you really should have the potential to hit legend ! good luck for your climb :)
I am pretty satisfied with the results i have gotten with this deck. One of my subs asked me what shaman deck was the best at the moment so I had to take a look and make an opinion. I'll have to say that this one is my favorite so far so I'll keep playing it for a while :D
I of course made a video showcasing the deck which I hope you enjoy !!
thank you ! I really appreciate it and enjoyed watching.
added it to the guide - keep up the good work :)
Is this a wild only deck?
this is a standart deck
I still think devolve is overall better- the only difference is it is a two mana response. I was playing against devolve and had a nice 15/15 blubber baron out AND an 8/9 void terror. He was able to devolve them to useless 2 mana cards and remove/play around them easily as opposed to using both silences and being much weaker to the rest of my responses. Now... That's not to say devolve is 100% better every time; however, if you're against an opponent that can drop multiple threats, a devolve covers it whereas you'd need 2 silences. That being said, RNG can still kick you in the butt if they get the best of the mana cost they are devolved to; however, in my case, he'd have needed 2 silences vs 1 devolve.
hey dude, are u talking about arena ? never saw blubber baron or void terror on ladder anywhere and you are dead anyway if you play against aggro shaman before u can buff any card in the world to 15/15 same goes for an opponent who can drop multiple threats as you have mentioned since you are not going to any lategame. you cannot compare the devolve/evolve shaman with an aggro list since those are more midrange/control lists...
i'm currently testing in ranked 2 versions of this deck. the normal one, and one with devolve instead of earthshock. obviously it's situational which one is better, but the question is which is better in the most circumstances where it changes the outcome of the game?
This is the same deck that's been listed on tempo storm with one change. They removed one Feral Spirit for one Earth Shock. Thank you for explaining to us Captain Obvious how silence in this game works because none of us knew that or had the ability to tech in cards.
Lol, yeah and they also dropped 1 Southsea Deckhand to sub in Leeroy Jenkins
Link to the original list that's been out on Tempostorm:
https://tempostorm.com/hearthstone/decks/aggro-shaman-standard-meta-snapshot-jan-2-2017
not sure what you are talking about bro but it honors me that you think that Tempostorm could have had my idea of bringing back silence to the meta in aggro shaman before I had it :)
Let me make this clear. All you did was copy this deck on Tempo Storm https://tempostorm.com/hearthstone/decks/aggro-shaman-standard-meta-snapshot-jan-2-2017 and tech in a silence. Hate to break it to you but it wasn't your idea to bring back adding a silence card to the deck. Earthshock has been rotating in and out of Aggro Shaman for a long time now. It's a meta call to chose and add in one copy.
1. I did not tech in one card
2. show me one link or proof of any aggro shaman list running earth shock? I did not saw this card in play in any of my games or tournaments since more than a year playing this game competitive daily but yeah.. haters gonna hate :*
This deck looks pretty good, but do you I should craft both thalnos and aya to make it? I have dust for 1 legendary but can get more.
which one should I craft first?
