Hey, i made a reddit post a couple of days ago after i reached Legend with this deck: https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/5kepk8/got_legend_with_self_brewd_demon_warlock_deck/
And since a lot of you guys asked for it, i decided to make a quick guide about it with strategy and mulligan options and matchups. So...let's get started:
Strategy and Mulligan:
The goal is to set up an early lead with 1 drop demons and try to combo them with your buff cards or discard mechanics (with malchezar's imp and tiny knight of evil) and get a snowball going by outpacing and out tempoing your opponent with bigger and bigger demons.
As for mulligan, there are a lot of different options here but you almost always want to get early board presence with the amount of 1 drop demons you have. Keep as much of them as you can early on to ensure that at least one of your demons stick by turn 2 or 3 so you can buff them with demonfire or bloodfury potion. You should consider keeping any discardble card you can find as well (Golems and/or Fist of Jarraxus) because you'll eventually discard them and get a lead that way.
Matchups:
Shaman - look for soulfire to counter totem golem or 1 drop demon + bloofury potion if you have the coin. it totally screws them up because most likely they'r going to totem up the following turn leaving you with an opening to snowball from there. Always be aware of lightning storm and malestorm portal (Crystalweaver is key in this)
Warrior - keep soulfire and any discardble cards you can get your hands on. several 1 drops early is a good way to get them to trade instead of them mindlessly smorc you. A buffed voidwalker wins you the game almost automatically (keeping demonfire for the buccaneer isn't a bad idea either)
Druid - curve out and you should be fine. Innervate is your worst enemy. Try to apply a lot of pressure early so that they have to spend all their mana on removal and don't develop the board.
Card Choice:
Pitlord: The million dollar question, "why the fuck would you pic Pitlord over anything else?" Well, being a warlock fan-boy, i've experimented a lot and did a lot of testing with every single warlock card to see what could make the cut. Pitlord caught me by surprise, as it did many of you, but the more i thought about it, the more it made sense. The reason behind it was because of the whole concept of demons: you put big minions ahead of their curve but with some kind of trade-off, either by discarding or taking a chunk out of your life total. I think that's the logic behind the hearthstone dev team and why they made demons the way they are. Pitlord is a fantastic minion (stat wise) for only 4 mana. The trade off being that you pay 5 health to play it. But it's totally worth it. The deck revolves around playing early minions, like flame imp, void walker, malchezar's imp, succubus (at some extent), imp gang boss and then buffing them up with demonfire and bloodfury potion. Meaning, you get a lead early and you snowball the game after that so that your opponent can't react to anything you do while you push your way to victory. Pitlord comes as a tempo play against your opponent. On turn 3/4 they are preparing to deal with your board but then you drop this huge-ass demon on the board. Take a mage for example...on turn 4, they either frostbold-ping-trade against your board, or they have to deal with your Pitlord and fireball it, leaving your board intact to get buffed the next turn (or you play a doomguard and they have to fireball+ping/polymorph, wich they already used on your Pitlord and don't have the mana to do so)
Replacements:
Darkshire Counsilman
Felguard
Demonwrath
Note: Updating the guide whenever i have a spare time! Thanks for all the replies :)
I've returned to this recently and am loving it. Most people now expect Reno or a Zoo derivative and don't mulligan for this deck. I've had a lot of fun seeing Fist of Jarraxus nail a stealthed Finja. Royally cock up the opponents game plan. A buffed Voidwalker is an MVP too.
i love this deck , thanks :) , btw try make copy archtype for new un'goro quest 6 discard with the new legendary , it would be really cool . but make it as wild please
I loved this deck when I played it after you first posted it and I've been playing it again recently...to climb from rank 19 to 10 fast! It's still a blast to play. It feels strong against jade shaman, reno mage, and it's amazing against jade druid. Highlights include facing down a mage by playing both pitlords to nuke myself down to 10 to gamble on lethal next turn, 8/10 imp gang bosses, and sweet discard value.
thanks again for sharing this decklist!
Yeah, that card reveal got me thinking about this deck. Can't wait to try those! If you build it as a new deck instead of tweaking this one, please post the link here.
I love the deck!
I have make it more aggresive by adding 2xDemonfuse and 2xBlood Imp, removing the Pit Lords and the Dark Peddler.
This way you increase the chances of having a 1-drop in your initial hand, which I have found as essential for this deck.
I tend to use Demonfuse in later turns to not give too much advantage, but I think it fits pretty good with the spirit of the game.
Nice job!
I took out both Succubus and Pit Lord and added two Power Overwhelming and Void Terror. Its really fun when you kill them turn 5 with a 13/13 Void Terror!
This deck felt a little inconsistent how can i make it more consistent. I have some spare dust to spend(around 1600).
Other then that Sense Demons Just to make sure that im not low on resources I also replaced pit loard for Sylvanas Windrunner
I'm not very good Warlock player, but i like the idea of demons now and god bless you, you made this guide :D
I just replaced Pit Lords (i just don't have them) with Demonwrath
This deck is awesome, you got my vote ;)
Hiya - just to say a big thank you... (I even joined the forum specially to say it!)
I have been messing around for a week or so with a pure demon (I have played a lot of zoo discard) but hadn't quite got it nailed down but having seen this the missing pieces fell into place. EMBRACE the discard - i never realised how good Fist of Jaraxus could be before trying this out.
Running a Felguard and a blast crystal instead of the Pit Lords at the mo as didn't want to craft them without testing it first but toying with doing one now.
Toying with either a second felguard or acidic swamp ooze as well to help with aggro pirate but not sure what to drop - any thoughts?
Thanks again for a fun deck with awesome synergies - really love playing warlock and this deck has reminded me of that!
I also joined the forums jsut to tell you this deck is flipping roflstomp pwnies awesome sauce.
I LOVE the deck cause I love demon decks; however, I don't have Blackrock mountain so I don't Imp Gang Boss
I've had some success using 2x Felguard which I don't have a problem in the deck but I also think it's missing some of the board control I'd otherwise have and am relying on lucky discards more so than I usually would. Any suggestions?
lol yeah I'm sure Demonwrath would do great as a replacement but sadly don't have it :/
Thanks man, this has been working really well! And thanks for the tips too on discarding! Also still waiting for that guide :)
Nice deck! Aggro Shamans can be a bitch to play against though, especially when they get double Trogg and Flametongue early.
I'm missing a Tiny Knight though. I'm not too keen on crafting a card that's about to rotate out, so I used Dreadsteed but found it underwhelming. Any replacement suggestions? I'm thinking Demonwrath, Felguard, or Ooze. Thoughts?
I'm wondering if you're a Yu-Gi-Oh fan as your name is very similar to a card from that series called Raigeki. Very destructive card an a great theme for this deck. I'd like say thankyou for this, it's a lot of fun. As a priest player that's quite fond of the infamous Randuin Wyrnn, I'm going to sprinkle a little RNG on this deck and have even more fun. I'm sorta seeing the second PitLord slot as a "visiting professor" sort of slot, where can we sub in some other random cards. To that end, I'm considering...
That's all for now but if I get any additional ideas...I'll let you know! Thanks again for the deck.
And then...8 fucking shammies in a row..all with the same damn deck.
amazing deck, most of the games lost are too annoying warriors though
just tried the deck and so far i gotta say a possible replacement card seems to be souldrain simply for removal and heal purpose (i didnt have imp gang boss in case you are wondering)
I really, really wanted to love this deck, but I tried it on the ladder and lost 4 in a row. I believe that you got to legend with the deck, so the problem is probably just me. Perhaps I'll revisit it with some of the suggested replacements
Really fun deck man
