Hey guys!
I just wanted to showcase the Malygos Shaman deck I use for Wild. I haven't seen too many up-to-date MalyShaman decks for Wild, and all of the ones I've seen use Barnes, as a malygos "tutor" - but from experimenting with these versions I've discovered that barnes is nothing more than a clunky and inconsistent card.
Therefore, I've created a version that is more reminiscent of control with a combo finisher. It does not seek to assemble the combo in less 7 turns (although Turn 6 wins ARE POSSIBLE); rather, it uses a combination of healing, board clears, and draw to answer our opponent's decks in the first few turns and leisurely find all the combo pieces in the meanwhile.
This deck can combo off with or without Emperor Thaurissan. Generally, getting your opponent to ~25 health is ideal, but the combo can still work without it. Basically, the goal is to gather Malygos, at least 3 damage spells, Thaurissan and/or Ancestor's Call in hand. Drop Thaurissan, then next turn Ancestor's Call (if you have 9/10 mana it is possible to combo without Ancestor's Call) and unload all your damage spells to the face.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO USE YOUR DAMAGE SPELLS AS REMOVAL AGAINST AGGRO!! You will definitely outvalue and outlast them without the combo, so it is better to ensure your survival than hold onto your face spells.
Against control, you mostly have an easy time because you can end the game in 1 turn and they can't. there are times when you have to play cards to prevent overdrawing, which is fine. don't hesitate to play your Feral Spirits and use a board wipe to clear 1 or 2 important minions. you have 6 board wipes in the deck, and 26 points of healing (assuming you win the clashes).
You can replace Wrathion with Hallazeal the Ascended if you have him, although often times the healing Hallazeal provides is either unnecessary or unreliable. Wrathion is a more consistent draw-taunt minion. Yogg-Saron, Hope's End is a personal addition made purely for fun. A second volcano or a Bloodmage Thalnos are fantastic replacements.
One of the most satisfying things ever is to unload 25+ damage to your opponents face from your hand in ONE TURN. It's absolutely fantastic, in fact. And for those reasons, I urge you to try MalyShaman; you will not be disappointed.
MATCH-UPS COMING SOON
Enjoy :)
UPDATE: Reached Rank 5 Wild with this deck!!! I started playing it rank 7 after not experiencing success with my evolve shaman midrange/control deck (which I had been using since rank 14). I have tremendous faith, based on my winrate, that this deck could make the climb to legend, had I more free time during ranked seasons.
Firstly ive gotten to legend multiple times with similar decks so Im glad it was working out for you too :).
Just a few suggestions for your deck from my exp. Firstly yogg i dont think has any place in this deck. The reason being is that it will stick in your hand and unless you have a lavashock the turn before, you will very likely be overloaded and unable to get rid of it. And the point of this deck is to ancestral call so you never want a card that you cant easily toss away.
Secondly wrathion seems like a very expensive draw. You only have 1 dragon in your deck, so its very likely going to draw 1 card. In which case you might as well swap it out for something cheaper like mana tide (very often draws atleast 2 cards), or even azure drake which has the added bonus of spellpower.
Thirdly im not a big fan of the frost shock route. The reason being is that you will need an extra spell in your hand to OTK someone. even drawing 2 lavashock and 2 lightning bolt you can do 30 damage. But add in even 1 frost shock instead of lavashock and you will be short at 29. Its also sub par removal. You say to idealy get them to 25, probably because of this limitation, but the main problem with doing so is you run very little early game so its very difficult to push any damage to face. That being said the 1 time that frost shocks have potential is if you are playing spellstones. Since this means if you get an emperor tick then you can suddenly burst them for crazy amount mores. Spellstones arent essential but they work in this deck mainly because it means you need a lot less damage spells to OTK people. Especially against warrior, ive done upwards of 80 damage in 1 turn and that was without having frost shocks in my deck.
The curator, again you are only drawing 1 dragon from it so alot of the time its going to do nothing or just be a very expensive draw so im not a fan of it.
I also strongly recommend trying hallazeal. Especially since you are running 2 elemental destructions, against agro it just straight up wins me the game. Even cutting a healing wave, hallazeal is much more consistent and gets alot bigger heals off whilst also getting a body down. And if you manage to spellstone it(another reason i like running spellstones), usually an agro deck will straight up concede
Thanks for the deck and explanation! Saw Dane use Marin the Fox in a Maly Shaman list and I wanted to try it.
Quite welcome!
Let me know how that goes! I'm excited to try the new legendary, but not quite sure how to slot him into the deck (or any deck, for that matter)
Its feels not as stable as the usual deck build since Marin might get struck in your hand. Mostly for the funs haha don't think it's that good with climbing, I replace two cards with Marin and 1 Reincarnate. But I don't really play Maly Shaman so often, maybe I don't know how to properly use the resources and overloads.
But it can do wonders when the wand gets good cards to 0 cost to go off haha
haha true, there definitely is an RNG aspect to it. Maybe if you replace Yogg with marin, it could work a bit better? I don't cast yogg in almost any of my games anyway; he's mostly there for fun (and as an emergency button).
How important is Far sight in this deck? Ive always disliked the card and have a habit of disenchanting it...
Farsight is VERY good in this deck. One of the best cards, I'd argue, especially because we only run 4 draw spells. The times it hits Malygos or Ancestor's Call are usually the times when the combo is easiest, plus it essentially makes our deck 28 cards, which is a huge difference when you're looking for a critical mass of cards to combo off.
It's worth the 800 dust for sure, although if you really want to, loot hoarder or novice engineer are alternatives. Keep in mind that they will nerf your healing waves a lot, though.
Nice deck. I've always loved Maly Shaman, and this list seems to just work. Props to you
thanks man! it looks weird at first, but i've been experiencing success with it as well!
+1 from me! First game, burst down a pesky Jade Druid with 38 total health (29+9 armor) with an extra Lightning Bolt for another 8 damage unused. I'm no expert on fine tuning a deck, but it felt pretty good to me.
It did take me awhile to finally gather enough burst (I believe I had 4 cards left), so I only wondered if there is room for a single copy of Lava Burst somewhere? If this druid had been playing properly, he would have easily been able to buff past my burst range after he dropped an early Malfurion, but opted to go 3 damage every subsequent turn.
Also, I like Doomsayers. If you have any substitution suggestions I'm all ears!
Glad this deck is working for you!
I've experimented a ton with this deck, and doomsayers severely weaken Healing Wave, which is why i don't run them. They're also very mediocre past turn 4-5 (since we don't run any freeze effects). against fast aggro decks (pirates, aggro druid, etc.), our gameplan revolves around using our damage spells as removal and eventually outvalueing them.
As for lava burst, I've also played versions with it and it weakens your ability to combo off more than you may think. 3 mana is significantly more difficult to chain with the spells in the deck than 2 mana spells. I'd say including Bloodmage Thalnos is more effective. one copy shouldn't nerf your healing waves too much, and it's even a source of card draw if you so choose. It should work fine in place of Maelstrom Portal if you aren't facing too many aggro decks.
Thanks for the reply. So far keeping as is, though might try the Bloodmage change. Any change you could add a mulligan guide? I try to keep an Elemental Destruction with Lava Shock if I can, but otherwise I just toss away burst.
Mulligan guide will be coming shortly :)
The basic premise is to keep Far Sight, Curator, and Hex (depending on match-up) against control - but you're match-up against control is splendid anyway.
Against aggro, basically mull hard for AOE and feral spirit. healing wave is also a good pick-up. You're not gonna wanna combo out against aggro; you're game plan is to out-value them by 1-for-1'ing their cards and eventually just beat them down with a mid- to large-size minion.
I'll write a more detailed description once I have some more time.
Thanks for your interest
Yep, perfectly reasonable. Yogg is in there for shiggles. A second Volcano should work beautifully.
Nice deck, I upvoted!
thanks :)
I put in Hallazeal, as per your suggestion since I do not own Wranthion, then Elemental Destruction'd from 1hp to 30hp. Felt pretty good!
LOL Hallazeal is definitely strong when you can pair him with a board clear. Depends if you prefer immediate value earlier over high paired value. Update me on how the deck runs with him!
Great deck and thanks 4 the explanation!
Thanks for your support
