PLAYSTYLE

Mid-Range Shaman is a deck extremely invested into controlling the board state and tempo of the game. This deck aims to be in front going into turns 6-8 before playing cards like Bloodlust, Doomhammer, or Thunder Bluff Valiant to really push its advantage and close out the game.

The deck possess the insane starts of Aggro Shaman with Tunnel Trogg into Totem Golem, but also runs cards like Hex, Lightning Storm, Thunder Bluff Valiant, Mana Tide Totem, and a Thing from Below, all which offer strong tempo swings or an ability to beat out control decks.

META

The latest patch has shown to have had some nerfs to Mid-Range Shaman in the form of Rockbiter Weapon and Tuskarr Totemic, so this should surely mean the deck is dead, right?

The problem is that, now, Mid-Range Shaman is far and away the best deck in the format. The fact of the matter is that Mid-Range Shaman is just a strong deck with an embarrassment of riches in terms of card quality. It is crazy to think that, before the nerf, a card that is as insane as Tunnel Trogg was not making the cut in Mid-Range Shaman – that really shows its power level as a deck.

With the nerfs, it has found its way back into the deck. A quick fix to the problem of no Rockbiter Weapon was adding two Lightning Bolts as a clean swaps. As for other cards, it feels very much like preference, as you can see the feature list is from Sjow who got rank 1 legend, and features cards like Harrison Jones and Flamewreathed Faceless. These cards have their own place as really good cards in certain matchups.

Rosty is also another player to have success with a unique build of Mid-Range Shaman. He opted for the Wicked Witchdoctor, Totemic Might, Bloodlust variant, which can flood the board and make it difficult to remove, then hit you with a ton of burst.

Another way that Shaman benefited from the nerfs is that cards and decks that were good against Mid-Range Shaman also took a hit. A big one was Yogg-Saron, which was one of the only ways Druids can even come close to having a chance against Shaman. Execute getting hit with a nerf really affected Dragon Warrior, since it is harder to work it in and gain tempo from the former one-mana removal spell.

Mid-Range Shaman is easily the best deck in the game, and i recommend it very highly if you are interested in climbing to the highest ranks.
