Hey everyone! Heggem here! I just hit Legend today and I wanted to show the deck that I did the most climbing with. Though I did play with an assortment of decks, I played this one the most by far! If you want to play something off the beaten path, give this deck a go! The deck is relatively cheap to make as well! Check out the video below if you are curious for more analysis on card choices or if you desire some game play!
dude this deck is great. Literally the ultimate utility deck. Has an answer for everything. I have beat pretty much every type of deck. Handlock has been beaten with some nice Faceless Manipulator > Aldor Peacekeeper combo, leaving them useless and you using their card against them. Went full 30 cards each against priest in a pretty intense match. It shuts down zoo with a simple Wild Pyromancer > Equality combo or Equality > Consecration. It's very important to establish control as early as possible I think with aggressive mulligans for the low manas. The Sword of Justice is great, I will even coin up to play on 2nd turn. Pairs great with the 1/1's on the hero power if you have nothing to play. Player a Defender of Argus on em and now you have two 3/3's with taunt and you know your opponent is pissed. Only two cards I switched are Avenging Wrath for a Hammer of Wrath to keep the card cycle going and more controlled damage. Also, The Black Knight (cause I didn't have him) for a Tirion Fordring
Hello dude, i love your deck, I dont wont change anything before asking your opinion :D
I like the combo aldor/kodo what should i take out to add the kodo in your opinion ? and what are the result of these cards replacementst ?
Thanks for your time & your deck :)
Thank you for the kind words! =)
If you are going against decks that don't really have big threatening monsters, you can replace Big Game Hunter or Emperor Cobra. Both aren't necessary. I just had them because I was facing decks that just kept dropping down big dudes. You can also replace a Shieldmasta if you aren't needing more taunts to survive high burst or if you aren't going against a lot of zoo. Or you can swap out a Gnomish Inventor. The reason why I would swap a Gnomish Inventor over an Azure Drake is that you have so many 4 drops in the deck and you don't have a ton of 5 drops. So adding another 5 drop such as Kodo could help balance the curve and Azure Drake also offers spell power and more attack.
Those are some options for you. =) I am not sure what you are playing against the majority of the time. So I can't say for certain what to replace but hopefully some of those ideas will give you a sense on what to change to add a Kodo. Good luck!
Hi heggem5 I was just wondering about Argent Squire's role in this deck. I feel like she's pretty useless most of the time except at the beginning. Would it be viable to replace her with a 3/2 such as Faerie Dragon?
I have her simply there for the early game and for her ability to stick to the board. Board presence/Tempo can be very valuable. I think if there is anything that Paladins lack, it is early game presence. In addition, Argent Squire is a great target for Knife Juggler, Equality, Sword of Justice, and Defender of Argus. A minion with divine shield and taunt is incredibly annoying. If you are wanting to utilize Argent Squire even more, you can try Blood Knight. I have been testing a little with Blood Knight with a bit of success.
Keep in mind though that my deck list should act more as an outline. Make changes as you see fit! Faerie Dragon isn't a bad option. Difficult for your opponent to remove easily. You can even use Elven Archer because it works well with Equality, Knife Juggler, and True Silver Champion. You can even try Argent Protectors for efficient trading or to simply protect your monsters.
Do what works for the meta you are in and good luck! =D
I've been playing this off and on for the last few days and am currently sitting at an 13-4 record and it's walked me up from playing half-heartedly with other decks that didn't fit my feel at 18 with no stars, to 13 with 1 and no sign of really slowing down. The playstyle is a very familiar fit to me as I used to play control in MtG quite often, and this slides right into that style. I have taken out one Azure Drake for one Tirion, though. He, or the fact that he's usually insta-gibbed and equips Ashbringer, has pulled me though quite a few close matches.
Tirion is definitely good since he adds some late game. Also Ashbringer puts in some solid damage if you can get it. Just be sure to play around those saps or silences otherwise you can lose a lot of tempo. Change the deck as you see fit! My list is merely an outline, I have changed some things since this original post since the meta can change here and there. I am happy to hear about your success. Keep up the good work! =)
All good solid replacements that will still make the deck flow well. =) Good thoughts! Change as you see fit! That is what makes a good player! The deck is merely an outline. Keep on ranking up! =)
I edited the deck slightly for my league (not seeing enough big creatures for kobra + bgh to be effective so added in a kodo and blood knight). I won 5 of the 6 games I played at rank 9 today so I'm happy at the moment.
Awesome! =) Yeah, definitely adjust the deck as needed. This deck is really flexible. Good job on your wins! =D
Nice deck! I don't have tbk so I put in a ragnaros and I've been doing alright. One question though, if you can add in another legendary which one would be good in this deck?
Actually now that you mention it, Ragnaros is a nice replacement for TBK. In fact, it could be better than TBK. People are constantly playing around TBK and that is rather frustrating and against the control warrior and miracle rogue match up it is absolutely useless. I played with Rag before with okay results but maybe I should give him another go.
Another legendary to add? I honestly haven't given it a ton of thought but one possibility would be Tirion. I have played with Tirion before in the deck with some success. Decks that lack silences (i.e. Control Warrior) it is pretty good or even against Zoo if you can get later into the game. However, my concern of playing high costing legendary cards is that the tempo can swiftly be changed. Druid's run 2 silences for the most part. You also see owl running around in hunter decks and handlock. I have even seen owl run in zoo on some occasions. In addition, sap is just infuriating as is Siphon Soul. They pay cheaper means of handling your 8 mana card. So you essentially lost a turn and the tempo swings heavily in their favor. In fact, you can often lose the game from losing that much tempo.
So the other option I have had in mind is playing a Sylvanas. Sylvanas is appealing because of the fact that it isn't too much mana and you can play other cards in that turn. Furthermore, you can give it taunt with Defender of Argus in this deck. Sylvanas can also handle opposing scary cards (i.e. Giants, Ragnaros, Alexstraza, Grom, etc...)
Ultimately, those are the first two cards that come to mind but I think I would lean more towards Sylvanas because if she is silenced you still have a 5/5 which is one less in health and attack than an 8 mana tirion. You also have more options in one turn with Sylvanas. You can play Sylvanas and DoA, Shieldmasta, Gnomish, Truesilver, etc...
Sorry for the long reply but I hope that gives you some insight. =)
Stampeding Kodo is always a nice form of removal with aldor peacekeeper. You can also use Spell Breaker. Though it isn't a form of removal, a silence can come in use pretty often. Adding a Blessing of Kings isn't bad either because it allows for you to burst your opponent or run over their big monsters. In addition, with Blessing of Kings you can buff one of their creatures and then use BGH to pop it. Or you can use blood knight as just a beefy scary monster. Plenty of argent squires running around in most decks.
So ultimately it kind of depends on what you are facing and the style of play you like but all of those should be decent replacements. I didn't run The Black Knight in the deck for quite a while and he definitely isn't mandatory.
Any replacement for BGH? :/
You could use Stampeding Kodo. Not the best replacement but Kodo with Aldor Peacekeeper is a nice form of removal. But also Kodo is just good against a lot of decks at the moment. You could also add a Blessing of Kings or Blood Knight as well. They offer more burst/big beat sticks. So depending on your style of play, I would consider picking from one of those I mentioned.
I linked your deck in the Shockadin comment section, I hope you don't mind.
I don't mind in the least! =) Thanks for telling me though! I love your Shockadin deck by the way! =)
heggem5! Loved the video, very well explained. Kudos to you for hitting legend with Paladin. I just love paladin in general and I hate the spot ppl think he's in. An Undderdog. I hope your deck and your video get more views, because I wanna see Paladin shine again ^^ You got my vote up and a thumbs up. WELL MET!
P.S. I wonder how Shockadin matches your deck.
Thanks mate! I really appreciate the kind words! =) Well met, indeed! =D
Shockadin, is really nasty to go against if I don't draw taunts or if they get a nice divine favor go off.
@MixWithWax: My pleasure! =) Yeah, definitely tweak the deck as you see fit. The meta varies slightly based on your rank but also the play style between players varies differently. I hope you are finding a lot of success! =)
