No.7 Legend UNSTOPPABLE EBOLADIN

***EDIT*** I've been tweaking the deck whilst climbing, and this is the version I hit legend with on day 4 of the February Season.

Hi! I'm Meati, a 22 year old Student Doctor from Cambridge, UK. I'm now a 7-time legend, spending most of the December 2015 and January 2016 seasons in the top 100.

Over the past month, I’ve been messing around with a previously popular deck which has lost favour in the current meta: Aggro Paladin (EBOLADIN).

It turns out some of the new cards from LoE (Sir Finley Mrrgglton and Keeper of Uldaman) have bought new life to what was already a very strong deck, and the meta at the moment is ripe for its success. I used this deck to climb to #7 legend in December and am currently #27 legend on the EU ladder.

If you’re interested, I’ve included a guide on how I play the deck below:

Mulligans:

As this is an aggro deck, Turn 1 and 2 are critical. Always think, when you get given your cards, what am I playing on Turn 1, and what am I playing on Turn 2? If the answer to either is nothing, you need to find one of the 8 one-drops or 7 2-drops in your deck.

If you’re going 1st, you want any 1 cost cards (Except BoM), and maybe a Shielded Minibot. If you don’t get given any of those, mulligan hard for them. If you do get a 1-drop, you can relax and start thinking about your 2nd and 3rd turns. For example, I would keep all 3 of an Abusive Sergeant, Knife Juggler and Muster for Battle, because it covers my 1st 3 turns.

If you’re going 2nd, you can be a bit more relaxed, still thinking about what you’re going to play on Turns 1 and 2. For example, you could keep a Shielded Minibot and Knife Juggler with no 1-drop, because you have the coin and they’ll cover your 1st 2 turns. You could also keep a 1-drop and a 3-drop with no 2 cost minion, using your coin on the 2nd turn.

Play:

This is an aggro deck, so almost every bit of damage should be hitting your opponent’s face. However, there are times in almost every game where you do need to control the board.

When deciding on whether to hit a minion or face, always ask yourself this question: Am I protecting a better minion by making the trade? If the answer is no, then you should probably hit face. If the answer is yes, then you should probably trade.

In most games, I usually end up controlling the board for the 1st 3 or so turns, and switching to face after I have a few minions on the board.

Matchups:

People often ask me what the deck is strong and weak against. My response is, you are NOT playing rock-paper-scissors when you use this deck. It doesn’t matter what deck your opponent’s using; what wins or loses you games are the cards that get drawn. You have the cards in your deck to counter everything that’s out there. Control match-up? Divine Favor will win you the game. Aggro matchup? Truesilver Champion to the face for a 12-HP swing. Combo matchup? If you draw right, they won’t ever get enough mana for their combo.

Notes on Card choices:

Argent Squire – Because it’s just one more 1-drop and 1 more divine shield.

Blessing of Might – a Great Finisher, and you can even get 6-9 damage out of it if you stick it on a Shielded Minibot or Argent Squire in the early game.

Sir Finley Mrrgglton - The strongest 1-drop in the deck. My choice of hero power does of course depend on the situation, but is usually Hunter > Warlock > Mage > Druid > Rogue > Shaman. If you're using Sir Finley later in the game with an almost-empty hand, don't forget to use your Paladin hero power first, as you can use your new hero power after in the same turn!

Argent Protector – Situationally excellent. Turn your Southsea Deckhand into an Argent Horserider… Make your Knife Juggler a pain to remove… Turn a trade into a removal…

Keeper of Uldaman – the newest addition to the deck. I was struggling a little and had fallen to around rank 1000, so replaced my Blessing of Kings with these and never looked back. Not only are they a decent presence on the board, they can function as a mini BoK on a recruit, and even provide a solution to big cards like Dr Boom or Giants which this deck wouldn’t otherwise have.

Leeroy Jenkins - If you don't have him, don't worry. Arcane Golem is almost as good.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy the deck! If you want to see how I play it, you can watch recordings of me playing here:
