Deck Introduction
Hello! I'm James1, a 12 times legend player. I'm very excited for Miracle Malygos Druid with the release of Raven Idol. Gadgetzan Auctioneer will always be my favourite card and Combo/Miracle will always be my favourite archetype. This deck is very good in current standard format. I Achieve rank 1 none-legend on the 29th April. I'll take it to legend next season.
Raven Idol will be a amazing cycle with Gadgetzan Auctioneer. Moreover , Raven Idol will also discover key damage cards for Malygos combo. Malygos Druid has always suffered with limited damage as you often blow 1 or 2 damage spell as removal. Raven Idol can potentially fix this problem and cycle too! synergy is over 9000.
The Combo
Malygos + 2 Moonfire + 2 Living Roots = 26 damage. Because we can't guarantee that these cards can be saved, the deck aims to draw damage using Raven Idol! ( With Gadgetzan Auctioneer on board to cycle and generate card advantage). You shouldn't think the deck relies solely on Malygos combo, between Violet Teacher, Druid of the Claw and Ancient of Lore the deck runs a very solid mid game, which will inevitably chip at the opponents health.
Raven Idol discover picks
Raven Idol will be release with the Hall of Explorers wing on the 10th/11th of December! Upon casting Raven Idol there is 11.1% for getting a spell specific card. Fun fact it will also be possible to re-discover Raven Idol, this may be relevant if you're searching for combo pieces or cycling with Gadgetzan Auctioneer in later turns.
Living Roots and Moonfire are priority picks for Malygos combo, thus are tier 1 picks. The mathematics of getting either of these burn spells can be seen in the spoiler below.
Mathematics of getting either Moonfire or Living Roots from Raven Idol:
- After casting raven idol once, there is a 24% chance of get either Moonfire or Living Roots.
- After casting raven idol twice, there is a 42.2% chance of get either Moonfire or Living Roots once.
- After casting raven idol twice, there is 5.76% of get either Moonfire or Living Roots twice. For example 2 Moonfire or 2 Living Roots or 1 of each.
Its important to note that these percentages include Raven Idol re-rolls for burn. For example you can cast raven idol, discover a raven idol and recast it if no burn was available the first time.
Innervate, Claw and Wrath are all amazing cards for Gadgetzan Auctioneer cycle. Tier 2 picks.
Swipe, Starfall and Force of Nature are amazing AOE. Tier 1/ 2 depending on situation board state.
Starfire and Nourish are tier 3 and are fairly useful in slower match ups.
Power of the Wild can be a tier 1/2 if Violet Teacher combo is possible. Another niche card would be Healing Touch, the 8 heal against face hunter is huge.
The rest belong in the bin bag with the blizzard development team, kappa. To summarise : there's 11 spell cards we want from Raven Idol, and because we get the choice of three the likely hood of getting a tier 1 or 2 card is very high (a 80.85% chance).
Card alternatives
Power of the Wild is another card that could be included. It has great synergy with Violet Teacher, however playing a 2 mana 3/2 is awful in today's meta.
Wild Pyromancer another great card for stopping aggro deck. Considering the abundance of spells its definitely could find a home in this deck.
Play guide and Mulligan (I'll update as I go along)
The most Important rule : You MUST scream "I'm the essence of magic" at the top of your lungs, as you slam Malygos and proceed to stick 3 damage spell card up the arse of your opponent. If you don't your play the deck wrong.
Typically you might want to save The Coin for either Violet Teacher or Gadgetzan Auctioneer combo. However, you may need to coin for tempo against fast decks.
In general you want Wild Growth, Innervate , Keeper of the Grove and Violet Teacher. An example of a great all round hand (Note this hand is pre Raven Idol release, Power of the Wild could easily be Raven Idol) :
V.s control keep Emperor Thaurissan with coin. Vs warlock consider keeping Big Game Hunter and Keeper of the Grove for Mountain Giant and Twilight Drake respectively.
V.s Aggro keep wrath, swipe and living roots. The hand below would be amazing against face hunter, paladin or Zoo.
If Wild Growth is played on turn 10 with Gadgetzan Auctioneer you will gain an Excess Mana card and draw 1 card . Upon playing excess mana, you will drawn 2 additional cards. Totalling 3 draws for 2 mana.
Thanks for reading!
Here's a fun youtube play through of the deck with p4wnyhof.
Dead serious. What can I replace, albeit temporarily, for Fandral?
Perfect deck. At first turn I've discovered Astral Communion by raven. Next turn I drew Malygos! Then the opponent 'conceded'
It's really good, i know it's not the highest rank, but i get completely annihilated by this deck in rank 13-8 (albeit i've never reached 12)
What do you think about including 2x Summonig Stone there?
deck for lose, i play 5 times ranked (18) and 5 time normal. all lose without any chance. lol about that theorycraft
confirm my post it's lose vs rogue and druid from base cards like a pony. delete that guilde
its rank 18, this is for 15+ like real ranking. Go play zoo and get out of low ranks
Would Justicar Trueheart fit into this deck? I've faced about 3 druids now who lethaled me with justicar or has sustained his late game with justicar.
Thanks for the reply~
Also would Mulch be viable in this deck?
Justicar is really only good in Paladin, Priest, and Warrior. There would be zero reason to include it in druid.
Also, Mulch isn't viable in much of anything. You're giving your opponent a free minion while getting rid of one of theirs. First time I used this card, my opponent got a sick minion. First time it was used against me I got a legendary.
kobold geomancer or a loot hoarder, but as this deck has enough draw a kobold geomancer is better
what about elise for one violet teacher..for a secondary wincon maybe
I dont seem to be able to deal with C'Thun druids, any advice?
I think it's a bit slow. Innervate is there if you need the extra mana but if this deck were a bit slower, it may be a good addition.
It might be worth looking into the Korean tournament going on right now. There was a player who played this with 2x nourish.
For everyone's reference, here is his list:
2 Innervate
2 Moonfire
2 Living Roots
2 Raven Idol
2 Wild Growth
1 Darnassus Aspirant
1 Bloodmage Thalnos
2 Swipe
1 Elise Starseeker
1 Fandral Staghelm
2 Jungle Moonkin
2 Nourish
2 Starfall
2 Azure Drake
1 Emperor Thaurissan
2 Gadgetzan Auctioneer
1 Yogg-Saron, Hope's End
Moonkin over Teacher makes sense, since we're missing Savage Force. It flows nicely into Swipe or Starfall, and I guess this AOE approach explains the lack of Claws. Surprised about the lack of Mirekeeper though... in fact, there are no 3 drops at all.
I am thinking of testing while dropping Darnassus for a Feral Rage; drop Thalnos or a Nourish for a second. And I would want to find room for Malygos in here too. Maybe cut Elise for him?
Okay, so I have played a few rounds with this deck with these changes:
-1 Darnassus Aspirant
-1 Bloodmage Thalnos
-1 Elise Starseeker
+1 Mulch
+1 Feral Rage
+1 Malygos
It definitely plays very differently than the OP's version. Not willing to say better though. It cycles a lot less aggressively, but it has better answers for when you fall behind. Aggro matchups are way, way better, and Yogg-Saron is hilariously fun to play. He did lose me one game though. I guess you just have to play him as a panic button when you have no answers, since he usually kills everything on the board (including himself).
Anyhow, further changes I might try include cutting Nourish down to 1, and maybe adding Mire Keeper back in. Both his skills are useful for ramping or trading with aggro. Another thing I am tempted to do, but which might not work is adding a second Mulch, since the deck has so much AOE.
Okay, he took out Darnassus for Justicar Trueheart. I am currently playing his deck with only Thalnos swapped out for Malygos. Elise has not had an impact yet after 23 games (in fact, the Map and Monkey are annoying), and Trueheart does well stalling out aggro decks, but I feel both can go for Feral Rage or Mire Keeper.
So I played Hotform's deck for a few days and have made many adjustments. His deck is much more like a Control Druid built around Elise, and I made adjustments so that it is built around Malygos.
Rather than explain the entire deck here in another deck's comment section, I'll just redirect you to my list:
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/531368-moonkin-druid
I would definitely cut Thalnos from this deck. He sits in a crowded slot, and pretty much everything on turns 1-3 should be ramp or anti-aggro. I would also consider Mulch in this deck. It's like a better version of Sap, and it helps in the late game.
One last option is to make this more a Dragon-focused deck:
-2 Feral Rage
-1 Fandral
-2 Violet Teacher
-2 Druid of the Claw
-1 Gadgetzan Auctioneer
+1 Bronzebeard
+2 Blackwing Technician
+2 Twilight Guardian
+2 Blackwing Corruptor
+1 Chromaggus
It really gives you more bodies to work with, but the downside is that it tempts you to play more like a traditional Druid (that is, you don't get to save those Innervates for the blowout combo).
