...you had to be there, history has been made.
REPLACEMENT
Ysera -> Nefarian Nefarian is faster ( higher attack and 2 cards) but risky (BGH - SW:D)
Vol'jin -Boom or Sylvanas (if you play boom than you better use Nefarian too). Harrison is ok, Loatheb would be a bad filler and Thaurissan has no place here.
Twilight Guardian - Mandatory 2x. Taunt+dragon has no replacement
Cabal Shadow Priest - You need at least one cabal to steal opponent's minibot, hounds, acolyte. Replace the second at will. MCT and Sylvanas are quite obvious. One more dragon can help, lightbomb is bad.
D0000000000D!!!! This deck is THE shit. Idk the win rate, i wasn't counting. But the curve is brutal.
So far 0-5 with this deck at rank 18. So many aggro decks, if i'm lucky to get 1 minion down it's gone immediately. I just can't ever seem to get control of the board. I haven't been able to keep any minions on the board for more than 1 turn. What am I doing wrong? Mulligan for the 1 drops don't seem to help.
I tried this deck ( 45 games ) at rank 5 and I gotta tell you that it only gets harder to play and grind out wins with this deck. This deck is really only good against four or five other decks ( Midrange & Aggro /hunter, Aggro Paladin, Shaman and Zoo Lock ). This decks fails horribly against Hand Lock, Control Paladin, Control warrior, Freeze Mage, Tempo Mage and is impossible to win against Rogues of any style.
Kolento did a write up about this deck ( and IMO this is hands down the best Dragon Priest deck out there ) and said that the match ups that I said were hard to win are medium to easy for him, well we are not Kolento, he is a fucking BEAST at HS. My advice to you friend is that if you cannot pilot this deck at rank 18 then you should probably use another deck.
Your match ups will only get tougher & tougher as you run into more Rogues, Warriors and Hand Locks further up the ladder.
You aren't doing anything wrong. People thought that TGT would finally make priests viable. They were excited about the new mechanics, more heals, and what seemed to be a now proper dragon deck.
The problem is, that HS has always been and will always be, an aggro/rush CCG. Dragon decks are great when they first come out...like every gimmick deck. But the meta quickly adapts and renders them useless.
Dragon decks now just suck...and suck hard. They can be beaten easily by about 75-80% of all decks found in the meta, most of them just simple aggro.
If you want to climb the ladder...you have to "join 'em" and go aggro. HS doesn't support alternative play unfortunately.
I just won in turn 4 against a Handlock <a href='http://postimage.org/' target='_blank'><img src='http://s7.postimg.org/d8joh20rf/Hearthstone_Screenshot_09_15_15_10_24_46.png' border='0' alt="Hearthstone Screenshot 09 15 15 10 24 46" /></a><br /><a target='_blank' href='http://postimage.org/index.php?lang=spanish'>imagen</a><br /><br />
No offence brother but you are rank 16. Even rank 3-5 is for noobs. Someone who knows how to pilot a Hand Lock wrecks this deck.
kolento himself wrote a nice guide on a different website. not sure if im allowed to link this here.

there he explains exactly what you said (in a slightly nicer way ;-) )
i tryd to use his tipps and am rank 10 right now with very little games and a high winrate.i subbed voljin for sylvanas and dragonkin for fjola... but i might change that into fjola instead of dark cultist. going pretty well. dudes.
Great response. That is the exact reason I swapped in 2x Holy Champion's for extra oomph.

What's everyones thoughts on dropping the Twilight Whelp as a 2/1 if you have no dragon in hand and no other solid play. The bonus is too big a loss? Or the tempo is too essential to pass up?
You need to think of the matchup, for example Shaman is a good contender to a 2/1 Twilight Whelp.
Why? Because the only answers for a 2/3 Twilight Whelp for a Shaman are Rockbitter Weapon and Earth Shock. So doesn't make a difference the type of Whelp you play, it will die regardless for his turn-1 removal. But for a Mage, it is too easy to remove a 2/1 Twilight Whelp, so evaluate the opponents removal before acting with a more aggressive play.
Loving this deck! Took it from Rank 19 to Rank 8 currently, and I'm still going. I'm usually a Rank 5+ player, started this season late.
One question:
Coin vs No Coin start phase guide: Any tips? My current win rate WITHOUT The Coin is 46%. My current win rate WITH The Coinis 75%! I mulligan aggressively, so I try to have a Twilight Whelp or Northshire Cleric in my hand, and I may just be getting more luck with those starts when I have 4 cards. All that said, I'm still interested in your opinion on a first 4-turn strategy WITHOUT coin.
One comment:
Traded out the 2x Dark Cultists for 2x Holy Champions. Easily increased my win rate in the ladder by 10-15%. My most difficult matches are Secret Paladin, Control Warrior, and Handlock. The approach I found best was drop lots of taunt minions, put a Holy Champion behind the taunt wall, and the synergy with Holy Nova essentially gives you a board clear with a Frothing Berserker result. The shock value alone is amazing that it creates an implied-taunt situation.
Edit: This is the exact deck I am now laddering with, complete with a small guide. I took my own feedback, changes my mulligan strategy, and changed a few cards. Jumped 3 ranks just tonight: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/331093-reebzys-spike-dmg-dragon-control
Velen's Chosen becomes my 3-drop. Really solid move if you've got Wyrmest down.
This deck gets wrecked by Handlock big time.
No Lightbomb = auto lose vs. Handlock
But i guess i just got unlucky to meet one, Handlocks are rare these days.
I am actually seeing a lot of Handlock at rank 3. Trying to figure out a tweak to help against it. I've already traded out 1 shrink meister for a kezan mystic to help against mage, hunter, and paladin (has been pretty effective so far). I'm not sure what I could switch out for a light bomb. Maybe swap out one of the velen's chosen, dragon sorcerer, or a cabal.
I swapped out the Dragon Sorcerer for a Mass Dispel because of all the Secret Palas. But since i did that i didn't match a single one... so yeah just trying things atm.
I've only taken it to Rank 5, but I've detailed my change of Dark Cultists to Holy Champions to specifically deal with Secret Paladins and Handlocks here: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/321735-kolento-37-0-100-win-the-beast-is-unleashed?comment=531
I'm not sure that I like that switch. There are times when a dark cultist is my cheapest minion in my starting hand. If that were replaced by a 4 drop then I would be in a really bad situation against any kind of aggro deck. This deck cannot easily get board control without early drops against secret paladin. If the games goes to turn 6 and you don't have board control, it is GG when Mysterious Challenger drops.
Don't use mass dispel. It costs too much and is too slow for how you have to fight secret paladin. Use kezan mystic. It helps against freeze mage and hunter as well.
They are? I met 3 of them yesterday.
Anyway, played 30 games yesterday (13.09.2015) with this deck and got 17 losses and 13 wins (@ 13 rank) which makes this not very good deck imho (at least in current meta):
4 games vs Paladin: 3 win, 1 loss
4 games vs Mage: 3 win, 1 loss
5 games vs Priest: 3 win, 2 loss
8 games vs Hunter: 2 win, 6 loss
3 games vs Warlock: 1 win, 2 loss
3 games vs Druid: 1 win, 2 loss
3 games vs Warrior: 0 win, 3 loss
"If you play boom than you better use nefarian too"
Can you please explain this?
