Welcome to Board Wipe. Using a variety of Hunter tools, control the board and game flow, then push with late game dominance.
I'd be more than happy to produce a write-up, if people wish to understand the deck better.
Update: Reworked a little to help with better draw and board clear.
I don't have Steamwheedle Sniper which is really important. What do you think about Quick Shot instead of Arcane Shot?
How about Flare? Good against Mage and Hunter and that secret Paladin deck.
I've been tinkering with Control Hunter myself with initially very strong results but increasingly poor results. I don't have Dr. Boom or Ragnaros the Firelord which is a big part of the problem I think.
It's called Board Wipe but you don't have Explosive Trap, sort of the quintessential board wipe Hunter card that has its damage increased by Bloodmage Thalnos and Azure Drake to be even stronger. Why is that?
Also, what are your feelings on Snipe? 4 damage stops a lot of early/mid game cards and puts some late game cards in range for Multi-Shot or the adjacent targets for Explosive Shot, especially if the damage is boosted at all. And, like Explosive Trap, that damage is increased with Bloodmage Thalnos and Azure Drake. Nothing seems to shut down Patron Warrior down especially like sniping Warsong Commander before anything else can be played. But it can be a dud card too so I'm torn.
Control Hunter is the only type of hunter I can really tolerate playing but it is harder to do than it is with other classes.
Boom and Rag are really good additions, if you can get them. Really boost the winrate. As far as not including Explosive Trap, minions are getting meatier in aggro decks so it more or less just tickles them and God help you in the Patron matchup. The problem with it is that it has to be triggered by an attack to the face. Your spell dmg minions will be cleared before they attack face, which is bad. Snipe is fine, but I prefer Freezing since not running more than two traps allows for cutting Scientist. Freezing is nice because you can setup for it. Snipe is fine but you have to hope they don't play a smaller creature. Misdirection would be a nice replacement for Freezing if you want.
As usual, control hunter doesn't work very well. Crap removal and lack of good card draw. The removal either requires multiple cards, or is just crappy and expensive. When you combine that with the fact that the card draw it self sucks you get an inconsistent deck. I have tried for literally ever to make a consistent control hunter deck and it just doesn't work with the cards we currently have. There is just no balance of draw/removal/threats that works. In order to strengthen one category, you have to make crippling cuts to the others.
Also, please stop calling everything "new meta", especially when its an objectively inconsistent deck. This is not the new meta, and with the current cards will never be the new meta.
Obviously you've spent hours running this deck to call it inconsistent. Really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it.
I apologize for calling it "new meta". I was just under the impression that introducing a less commonly used deck archetype for a common class would be considered a new part of the metagame of Hearthstone. Sorry, man. I mean, the deck is too inconsistent anyways. Just give me a second to uninstall.
Baron Geddon was a consideration, but after testing him out for a while, I've found that the 2 dmg AOE usually isn't enough. A lot of aggressive decks are running much meatier cards now. Deathwing is simply too good for dealing with Control decks and midrange-y decks. Not to mention, if it gets to the point where you need to drop Deathwing, you'll probably not have many cards in hand, so that drawback is often moot.
That being said, if you find that you're facing too many face decks, then by all means swap Deathwing out. Keep in mind that if you've survived until turn 7 against a face deck, you've either won or Baron Geddon might become a liability with you hurting your own face.
Rank? :)
Unfortunately, only rank 13, but that's mainly because I didn't play ranked that much this season. I do quite a bit of testing in unranked haha
