About
Hey guys Brooklyn here, you may know me from Firestorm and I`m back to bring you the amazing and unique Dragon Sage Deck! With a very strong Winrate of 72,9% and the simple fact that includes Dragons, you should definitly check this out.
In deep thankfulness i want to mention here MarineKingHS who helped me alot with the final developing, testing the Deck in Legend Ranks and inspired me together with the Dragons to come back to Hearthstone! If you like what you see, please visit me on twitch.tv/brookandlyn.
Concept of a Dragon Sage
This deck is designed to win by establishing Board Control from early to mid-game and overwhelm your opponent with your high-value Minions and a well timed Echo of Medivh. If you get dragged to the very late-game you have Cards like Ysera and Archmage Antonidas as finisher. Depending on what you are facing there can be minor changes in the Decklist which will be explained in the Spoilers below but keep in mind, this is the standard Decklist on which Tech Cards are build around after.

Mulligan
You want always want to mulligan for 2x Mana Wyrm, 1x Frostbolt, 2x Unstable Portal, 1x Nat Pagle, 1x Flamewaker and be agressive, but in addition, here are some mulligans you can also keep vs specific class:
- Against Mages and Hunter, you want to keep Kezan Mystic if you have included him, but always Acidic Swamp Ooze vs Hunter.
- Against Zoo you want to keep 1x Mind Control Tech.
- Against Handlock keep Big Game Hunter or Polymorph.
- Against Paladin Keep Flamewaker and/or Mind Control Tech.
- Against Warrior and Rogue keep Hungry Dragon and Acidic Swamp Ooze. Flamecannon is a Warrior only option.
FAQ Section
Q: Can i switch Harrison Jones for Acidic Swamp Ooze?
A: Yes you can but it will most likely hurt your Hunter Matchup.
Q: I dont have Nat Pagle, should I craft him for this deck?
A: No. If you arent deeply in love with this deck dont do it and just sub him with Bloodmage Thalnos, Flamecannon or Fireball for the offensive Option and Defender of Argus or Sludge Belcher for the defensive.
Q: Why no Blackwing Technician?
A: They where a part of it before i switched them for Flamewaker. The reason is that i dont like it to rely on a 4 Mana drop in my opening Hand to have a great 3 Mana drop. Nevertheless, they are still a viable choice!
Q: I want to include 2x Fireball, what can i cut?
A: Why want you do this? Its only of good use when you are facing a heavy control Meta or if you want to be very agressive yourself. I suggest to only run one copy of it and cutting 1x Arcane Intellect, 1x Flamecannon or 1x Mind Control Tech or Unstable Portal for it.
Q: I dont have Toshley ! What now?
A: That is bad. He is too important for this Deck so i have two solutions for you. Add 2x Mechanical Yeti and cut 1x Mind Control Tech. Second solution is adding Dr. Boom and Sylvanas Windrunner if you also cut Archmage Antonidas. Like this you will adjust the deck to a older List, which you can see in a Spoiler above.
Good and not so good Matchups
A Dragon Sage will do well against Paladin, Control Warrior, Priest, Hybrid Hunter, Rogue, Zoo, Mechmage, other Dragonmages and any kind of Druid or Shaman I know of. Depending on which Tech Cards are in, you will also do well against Tempo and Freeze Mage.
A Dragon Sage will have more or less Problems with Patron Warrior or Facehunter because teching against one will weaken your Matchup against the other.
Card Explanations
- Acidic Swamp Ooze - So since I dont run any Water Elementals and Harrison Jones shines best in control Matchups, but I already have quite good draw Mechanics, I prefer Ooze while facing more agressive Decks.
- Echo of Medivh - Since this Deck heavily targets Board Control it is the ideal refiller for your Hand! Also it hase nice Synergy with Flamewaker, Mind Control Tech and Mana Wyrm.
- Nat Pagle - Oh that guy is back! He is not just a quite nice draw Engine, even if he ends up dying and being just a 2 Mana Shieldbearer, he absorbed 4 Damage for you and maybe even removals. Yes he can be replaced, but you cannot go fishing then.
- Mind Control Tech - A 3/3 for 3 Mana isnt that good of course but he has really nice Synergy with Hungry Dragon, deals best with Zoo and Paladin and even Dr. Boom for example, which makes im overall a pretty solid choice for the Deck. Remember, even if your Opponent doenst play more than 3 Minions all the time you are doing fine because of Hungry Dragon and the fact that Mage does very well against a small number of Minions!
- Toshley - He deals with every 5 Mana drop, with every 6 Mana Drop, has the incredible Synergy with Flamewaker and Archmage Antonidas, isnt that vulnerable to silence and for the best Part, he kills Emperor Thaurissan. If you are missing him, look at the FAQ Section.
- Fireball - Maybe you noticed that this Deck sometimes does run Fireball and sometimes it doesnt. Fireball offers great reach and viable removal so it is a solid choice to include 1x of it. 2x is a bit too much when you are running also Big Game Hunter, so when including it, feel free to cut another spell like for example Arcane Intellect, Unstable Portal or even Defender of Argus.
- Flamewaker - Flamewaker took the place for Blackwing Technician. Not because they are particular stronger alone, but they have much better Synergy with the current List and are stronger against Aggro Decks. If you cant activate them with spells they are weaker compared to Blackwing Techs, which is why they are also still viable.
- Defender of Argus - This card provides great Synergy with your high Value Minions and Mind Control Tech. For me, I often switch between running 2x Sludge Belcher and no Argus or 1x of each. Another possibility is changing him for a Fireball, if you only want to be more agressive.
Dr. Boom and Friends, Legendarys I could recommend
ONLY those : Dr. Boom, Sneed's Old Shredder, Harrison Jones, Sylvanas Windrunner
How to cut and add Kezan Mystic
Updates
02.07.15 - I changed one Defender of Argus with Fireball for better reach and removal. I thought about cutting Nat Pagle for it but decided against that. You will find more detailed explanations about this within the Guide.
04.07.15 - Due some questions about the actual Gameplay and how to do specific things, i will make a Gameplay Guide Section aswell. This will take some days because im not at home for the next few. Also I`m thinking about cutting one Arcane Intellect for the Defender of Argus again. This depends strongly on Nat Pagle, because if he does work, you dont need Intellect. So maybe this will never happen, but its a thought.
05.07.15 - Added 2 More Gameplay Ladder Videos. Also included Kezan Mystic due the frequent question about Secret heavy Decks. Guide Updated.
I hope you will enjoy it being a true Dragon Mage as much as I did and good luck for all of you! If you are skilled with Images or Videos, please MSG me!
"Highest rated Dragon Mage"
that's not even true
Yes it is and its with ease the best Dragon Mage and no copy of anything.
Played against it and with it. Had a great fun. However when playing with it i had to face 3 facts :
1) It's sometimes very hard to trigger the Corruptor ability because there are very few dragons in the deck.
2) Mirror Entity and Freezing Trap are real problems. Even though sometimes Mirror Entity let's you get profit with MCT, i still think one Kezan is needed.
3) Very hard to ladder with it with all the Zoo (except if you get a good starting hand), Face Hunter and other hyper rush deck. Patron is almost auto concede, with so many dead cards in the deck that won't hep at all. Might be working real fine in Legend but getting there with this all the way is quite a journey.
But overall very nice to make Dailies Mage with it!
Edit : Just edited my comment because i did 7 games in Casual for the last 90 minutes and all i faced were the same decks than in the ladder so be careful when piloting this deck even in casual in case you still think people try new things there...
Heyo, i dont think triggering the Corruper is a problem because you have enough draw and he is the only card triggered through Dragons. Zoo is actually a fine Matchup and if you are facing a lot of Tempo Mage, Facehunter, i adviced already adding Kezan Mystic. Patron Warrior is hard because you have to be agressive from start on but also saving removals for their Combo. Its around 50-60%. I can understand that playing with this deck might be a struggle first because it is a new concept and has not been played over a 10000 times already by everyone else, which is the case in near 90% of all other decks right now.
To sum that up, everything is already in the Guide.
I've had & continue to have a lot of fun with this versatile deck! Thank you for sharing! I was talking to some friends of mine about dragon decks just a few days ago, so finding this was pretty cool! Made a deck spotlight video to add to my ongoing series, I hope you like it!
Your Nat Pagle literally cheated.
Your draws where really good i guess in the Video, crazy. You forgot some explanations about exotic cards, for example Toshley. Main reason for him is besides the Archmage Antonidas and Flamewaker Synergy, that he deals with every common and good 5-6 Drop! I mentioned it all in the Guide. Big thank you for your Video!!! I will add it to the Video Section aswell!!
Glad you liked the video!
I aim to try and get these videos as close to 10 minutes as I can, so sadly sometimes some info gets missed out, but I always link the deck in the description so hopefully it will bring people here to get a closer look!
Thanks for adding the video to your description! It means a lot!
And yes, Nat Pagle is a cheat.
I don't have Nat Pagle. Since you don't strongly recommend crafting him (unless I fall in love with this deck, which I might), then which of the replacements would you personally choose - I have them all. Would I be correct to guess Defender of Argus, since that was the most recent cut from your list?
Thanks.
Yes you are right. I wrote the reasons behind that in the Update Section! You are welcome!
So you did. Apologies for the needless question! Thanks for the responding anyways though.
Just played a few rounds with this deck. I'm a fan.
I`m glad to hear that! Its the best Dragon Mage out there in my opinion.. by far and of course i answer. I`m answering most of the questions. Only literally hard bullshit i ignore.
Apparently you live in a magical land where aggro decks don't exist. This deck gets smashed unless you draw very well.
This is with ease the best Dragon Mage until now by a huge margin and your point is saying if you draw bad, you lose vs aggro? OK
Welcome Back :)
Still have to try out your former deck, firestorm 3.0 that Marineking has updated, but would like to know from you how it compare and compete one with another ...
I´ll definitly give it a try, but your insight may make my priorities shit twards dragons =D
thanks for sharing
Thanks for the warm welcome. The Firestorm Decks 2 and 3 are much more agressive and straight forward while the first and Dragon Sage are more difficult to play, but also more versatile.
Haha I DE Nat Pagle about a month ago. I thought I would never need him. I also don't have Toshley as well
This deck looks like a lot of fun, but I'm missing those two cards
Take a look around the Guide, there is everything you need =)
Ok I see, and I do have the Bloodmage so I am covered for Nat Pagle, and I might just craft Toshley because he is used in other mage decks as well.
Thanks for the good guide and help man!
That sounds really odd but i guess it is fair to say that you are the problem in that case, because there should be no reason at all that your only winning play is a polymorph or a flamestrike . Is there a way to help you? Have you already read and watched the guide?
