I tested this deck for ~ 3 weeks and ~50 games. Started at rank 9, now I am rank 12. Total winrate is ~ 40-45%.
Very bad vs:
- hand lock (big, Big, BIG minions and lock's aoe = lock wins),
- face hunter (90% winrate? are you kidding me? Deathlord vs Owl = hunter wins),
- druid with Force of Nature (crazy burst),
- mech mage with Antonidas (fireball, fireball , fireball , fireball).
So-so vs: rogue, paladin
Not bad vs: zoolock, warriors, shamans.
So unfortunately most of strong and popular decks will totally kill this priest.
This my experience.
Very strong deck and fun2play
Thanx Lynx
This deck is amazing, has gotten me from 14-6 with few losses, although I cut the Thoughtsteal and made room for two acolytes of pain, which are amazing with buff spells. My only consistent losses are to handlock or other priests, and this deck absolutely smashes all aggro. Thanks again!
I've piloted this deck for about 20 games and will share my thoughts. My first few games were against zoo/midrange hunter and I handled them easily. It was awesome. However, it wasn't all rosy after that and this deck has some real issues in my opinion.
Versus aggro and fast/spammy decks this deck is fair-good. If you draw chow+deathlord there is a good chance you will shut down their early aggression and take over the game with your buffs and minion steals. However, if they manage to answer those early minions (your dream draw) you can end up with a LOT of dead draws (Velen's, wild pyro, PWS, shrinkmeister, etc). There were several face hunter games where they simply silenced my deathlord and continued the aggression which I was simply unable to answer. Cabal is TOO SLOW against aggro, face hunter doesn't care if you steal their minions. Northshire is a dead card against aggro if your life total is in jeopardy since you have zero burst heal. Half this deck is dead without board control. There is simply too little removal without auchenai+circle shenanigans. There were so many games where I had 7-8 cards in hand with no plays. The board clears provided are inadequate, lightbomb CAN be good, holy nova CAN be good, but there are many situations where they are mediocre and do half the job (if that). Not to mention that the high mana cost eats up your turn. Further, the zero burst heal means that once you are low against hunter you will remain low and you will be racing for a win (aka a loss because you have zero reach).
Against zoo/mech decks it will be a struggle for board control but you can win. If you get the board and maintain it you will win. If you can't get the board you will never reclaim it and you will lose. Again, lack of board clears and direct damage plague us. If you don't draw well you won't get the board early and you will lose. You simply have too few good standalone minions. Sylvanas and belcher don't do the job against big boards. Piloted shredder is good but meta decks all handle it. Deathlord is very often a huge detriment because their board can easily handle it if played without board control. Sometimes deathlord+velen's can do alright but it's a 6-mana combo and decks can deal with threats like that, especially at that point in the game. The board clears are ineffective and do half the job, especially against sticky minions.
Against control this deck is a joke. My winrate was approaching zero against control warrior, druid, handlock. You have these stupid early game shenanigans that all control decks can deal with. Velens zombie chow might seem incredible but the opponent can handle it and the deathrattle is not irrelevant. Death lord is usually brutal because the downside can literally lose you the game. If it sticks and you buff it it can be a good way to hold the board and build up but in my experience this rarely happened and your lack of good minions (e.g. boom/thaurissan/loatheb) to put behind deathlord makes it mostly irrelevant. You have zero burst and zero reach against control. As long as they can deal with your board eventually (eg brawl) you aren't going to win. Your dream combo of shrink+cabal on a sludge belcher is irrelevant unless you already have board. Ysera is a win more card in this deck, it is terrible when behind.
Those are my thoughts on this deck. Mostly negative. I feel it is inferior to other control priest decks in virtually every way. Playing this deck often leaves you feeling hopeless with a hand full of dead cards and no win condition. All in all I don't recommend it, there are way better decks to combat aggro and still hold your own against control.
I'm not sure you've actually played this deck. It hardly needs a "dream draw" to deal with hunter, it can easily stall a couple turns with the plethora of early game cards until your T5/6 Drops actually are relevant . Even if they silence your deathlord, you have a 2/8 that picks off everything in their deck. You really shouldn't be losing this matchup.
Zoo and Mech Mage are marginally more difficult, but still very favorable. You're describing this matchup as "you'll only win if you control the board". Well, if I'm not mistaken that's true of nearly any deck. This is another highly favorable matchup so I'm not sure where you're opinion is coming from.
Against Control this deck isn't perfect, but no deck can perform really well in all fields. Control Warrior matchup is a cakewalk, Druid and Handlock are indeed tougher, but hardly unwinnable. Deathlord isn't nearly as much of a risk as you make it out to be. It's certainly worse against control than aggro, but even control decks only have about a 20% chance of pulling something super threatening from it. Druid is more likely to pull a fatty from your Deathlord, but also doesn't have any hard removal, so it ends up being silenced or eating swipes and stuff. Ysera is hardly Win-more here either. Sure, it's terrible when behind on board, as is Emperor. You don't play it when you're behind on board. The aim is to control the board as much as possible so that you may drop it on a relatively clear board. Sticking Ysera often ensures the win against control, so I'm really not sure what you're on about here.
Dont think you are playing the deck correctly if you are even playing it at all.
I do recommend subbing in a Voljin to help with the control match ups. I have won many control vs control match ups because of Voljin alone.
So it's basically Taiki's deck with a couple minor tech changes? Cool story, bro.
Welcome to a game with a card pool of less than 500 cards. Stop embarrassing yourself with these types of comments, it just tells everyone you came from league of legends instead of mtg.
To improve handlock matchup do you think, -1 Ysera -1 SW:P and +1 BGH and +1 Lightbomb is alright?
I dont have Harrisson, i replaced it with Kezan is it ok?
I would honestly replace him with a swamp ooze if you don't have harrison. But that's just my opinion
Ya ok, anyway I feel like im facing more weapon classes :) ty
Second time I give a try to this deck, mech mage put Rag on turn 4, Hunter put Belcher on turn 4.
And you guys say Deathlord is a good card for Priest? I might be unlucky but Deathlord is Priest killer.
Here is the solution, I dropped 2 Deathlords in favor of Sen'jin. Viola! 3 games in a row, one was Hunter.
Here is my update: I am now 9-2 with this deck, its working well against all classes so far. I removed Deathlords, included Sen'jins.
I've been playing this deck but with -1 shrinkmeister and -1cabal. Subbed in a Voljin and Kezan to replace due to the number of mages on ladder. Went from rank 14 to 8 in a few hours. Hopefully it continues to cruise up the ladder. Great deck.
this deck is the most powerful priest deck without any doubt imo. However, I dont think it is cool to play a priest deck without circle, injured bm, etc.
Saw your climb against multiple streamers, really impressive and congrats.
All Hail Lynx
Not having a Harrison Jones I've dropped a Toshley in, and it works wonders :)
Wanted to drop by and say thank you. Have played 8 games in the higher/crappier ranks but am 7 - 1 with a 6 game win streak. The loss was down to the last play, I do not think i meade a mistake but I very well could have being it was my 2nd game with the deck. Love it just as it is, wanted to add different Legends but you hit it on the nose from what I have seen so far.
Yes, pick another deck.
