Hey guys, I want to show you my current Priest deck I'm using on the ladder. It containts some very odd cards so I'm going to explain those.
I am currently on a 11 wins streak with this deck. Playing at rank 7 right now. This deck has a very good matchup (90% winrate) against the Imp-losion Zoo deck as well as a decent matchup against most other aggro decks due to the Priest's abilitiy to heal himself on demand. Thanks to Thoughtsteal and very efficient removal spells the deck also has a decent chance of winning against heavier decks like Control Warrior or Paladin.
The biggest problem that Priest always had is Handlock in my opinion. That's why I tried to build a priest deck that has a decent chance of winning against Handlock as well as everything else you usually face on the ladder so this is what I came up with.
I'm not saying that I have an overwhelming advantage over the Handlock, but I win like every second game against it.
General combos:
Auchenai Soulpriest on board: Vol'jin + Hero Power = 7 mana hard removal
Wild Pyromancer + The Coin + Power Word: Shield = on turn 2 board 2 damage board clear vs. Zoo or Hunter
Injured Blademaster + Circle of Healing = 4/7 body for 3 mana
Auchenai Soulpriest + Circle of Healing = "turn 4 Flamestrike"
Northshire Cleric + (Wild Pyromancer) + Circle of Healing = lots of card draw
The cards to beat Handlock:
2x Shadow Word: Death & 1x Big Game Hunter
Big Game Hunter is almost always guaranteed to get value, because everyone runs Dr. Boom, right? So it's not that bad and against aggro decks it's still a 4/2 body for 3 mana which is not too bad. Against Handlock though this card really shines. It's an immediate answer to the Giants or Ragnaros the Firelord. I run double Shadow Word: Death against Handlock. Also most decks should have at least one target for it like Zoo's Doomguard or Harrison Jones which has become quite popular lately.
1x Lightbomb
This card is the dream against the Handlock's double Molten Giant + Sunfury Protector play. At worst it deals 1:1 with their giants or bigger threats like Sylvanas Windrunner. The biggest upside which Lightbomb has it that it is a very efficient removal against Dr. Boom as it also removes both Boom Bots in one card. It is also not too bad against Zoo, because it clears their board but leaves the Nerubian Eggs alive unlike Holy Nova.
Odd card choices:
1x Abusive Sergeant
This card looks really weird in Priest, but it acutally has some good synergy with the cards in this deck. The main reason I included this card is because of the two Shadow Word: Deaths. You can use Abusive Sergeant to buff your opponent's minions and then use Shadow Word: Death against them. This is great against things like Twilight Drake which are usually hard to take care of as a Priest unless you have a Silence in your hand. This also works with Big Game Hunter to put things like Doomguard or other 6 attack minions in its range. Against aggro decks this card can be used to buff your own Northshire Cleric played on turn 1 to trade with popular early game minions like Flame Imp or Mad Scientist. If you combine that with a Power Word: Shield it is the dream against any aggro deck and usually wins you the game.
No Mind Control?
I didn't like this card too much, because I felt it was too weak against aggro. If you are facing more control heavy decks you can definately include one of these in your deck. I would probably kick either a Shrinkmeister or Silence.
Possible changes:
-1 Shrinkmeister
+1 Harrison Jones
If you have any questions feel free to ask!
It works wonders against warrior and handlock. Thanks
But i don't understand the 6-1 against Hunter. For me it's like 40% winrate or less.
9-1 vs Control Warrior? You must have gotten really lucky with the Thought Steals.
I disagree, I have a self made priest deck that absolutely pwns warriors. I have never lost to control warrior with it. Thoughtsteal, Cabal, and Shadowmadness win it for you, for sure. Just shut the Acolyte's and Armorsmiths down = GG.
What are some good alternatives to Voljin and Sylvanas? Like non legendaries
Just wondering though, where and how can Recombobulator be used? Also, how about Abusive Seargent?
Lastly, why no Shadow Word: Pains? I feel like those are pretty good staple early removals.
If you recombobulate a shadow madnessed thing, do you get to keep it then?
Greetings! I have tried your deck and won like 5-6 games in a row aganist hunter. Although I didn't had time to try aganist other decks a lot. My one struggle was paladin I should tell. But its a great deck. I really like the abusive sergant touch. Much thanks for introducing this deck mate. Gl&Hf
ez win vs controls decks!
its terrible against agro..... and thats all you find from rank 20-10 i litterly lost 2 ranks mainly due to horrid rng but its also the decks fault for having crap for board press. 5 games in a row having nothing to play till turn 4 or higher. i mean i guess i coulda just played CoH for the fuck of it. i healed a warrior till turn 6 because i had nothing to play nothing and by the time i got something down he was already playing geddon and hellsrcream lock zoo hunter zoo cancer hunter rogue ramp druid... all same results.
This may work against hand locks or if you get good draws a zoo but anything other than had you need perfect draws to get anywhere.... to much late game and not enough early game to it viable
I restarted playing what? 2 days ago? Made it from rank 17 to rank 6 VERY easily with this exact list (minus shrink, + harisson). Yes zoo and hunter can get difficult, and I also agree that RNG and mulligans can screw you more games, however it's not that bad. you have to accept that you WILL have games that will be insta-losses right from turn 0. That is the truth of Hearthstone, especially since the Meta has gotten more and more Aggro. However, when you to make it to single digit ranks (5+), by experience, it's full of handlocks and warriors. This deck should give you the tools you need to beat them.
Why no belcher?
loses to zoo. you must have got extremely lucky 7 games in a row. priest cant beat zoo
unless you have perfect card draw you lose, regardless of how good/bad their card draw is. priest is horrible for ladder climbing its only good for fun control decks in casual
i also have trouble with zoo, all the anti handlock cards become dead in that matchup
Standard Priests (which runs Wild Pyromancer) have always been good against Zoo. You guys either are very unlucky in your draws or haven't been familiar with the class enough.
Try watching Zetalot stream for more info.
Is Recombobulator an option in this deck? I feel like with Cabals it's too good to pass up.
What do you think would be suitable to take out in favor of Recombobulator?
Mulligan guide? I find myself losing on turn 4 onwards because I'm unable to play anything
Since I don't have Vol'jin, I am running Dr. Boom and it is working great :) thanks for posting man!
