The deck made it to the front page @ top priest decks! Thanks for all the upvotes. I'll keep the deck updated and add some tips depending on which rank you're playing.
I made this deck to be viable vs Aggro decks such as Hunter / Warlock zoo and mech (such as mage), which are currently flooding the ladder. It made me go from rank 15 to 9 in a single win streak, while only losing a few times from 10 to 5. Rank 5 to 3 also went pretty smooth, although it gets tougher as more handlock and control decks are showing up.
-------------------------
Muligan: Should be pretty obvious. Try to get low cost removal and minions. Preferably Smite and Shadow Word: Pain vs aggro recks. Only keep Circle of Healing if you also have Injured Blademaster or Auchenai Soulpriest (when playing vs aggro) in your opening hand.
-------------------------
Changes depening on rank:
25 to 10: Here you'll just find shitloads of Hunter / Warlock zoo and Mage mech decks, which is exactly what this deck is aimed to counter. Just use the deck list as listed.
10 to legend: Here you'll start finding better players and usually more control oriented decks. The higher you get, the more you might want to change the deck list to be better vs control. Here is a list of cards to replace and for what, but remember that for every card you replace it gets better vs control but worse vs aggro!
What to throw out to make place for cards that counter control decks better: 1 Shrinkmeister, 1 Shadow Madness, Zombie Chow, Recombobulator, Smite, one Cabal Shadow Priest.
Cards to put in: A second Sludge Belcher, a second Shadow Word: Death, Ragnaros, Loatheb, Big Game Hunter, Mind Control (MC only if you make it to turn 10 very often!).
----------------------
Changes for cards you don't have (all my opinion):
Vol'jin: This card is kinda unique in what it does and hard to replace. But Sludge Belcher could do the job if you are running on a really tight budget.
Recombobulator: Same story, also unique in what it does. Preferable replacements would be at least one low cost minion to deal with aggro matchups, such as Wild Pyromancer or Zombie Chow, but neither cards give quite the same amount of value.
What do you use Recombobulator for?
I mean.. what would you suggest using it on?
Use him with Shadow Madness. It is great to use shadow madness on Sludge Belcher and get a random 5 mana minion.
ya bro make sure you attack first with your minion then Recombobulate!
Genius. I never would have thought to try some of what's in this deck (no PWS, no Pyro), but it's working great against cancermage so far. The one thing I'm having to adjust to is to really coddle the Clerics when you put them out, because I think you need to get at least one draw from them.
The flexibility and aggression that Velen's adds is amazing. It's fun to watch people panic and suddenly mouse over all their cards frantically when you tip the scales with an unexpected VC. Just awesome.
My luck has run out with mech priest, this is similar to my normal priest deck, taking out the PWS is like a revolutionary idea! gives room for a couple more good cards... hmm may give something like this a shot. I love the shrink, cabal/shadow madness, recomb combos. I had a lot of luck with a very thiefy deck like this earlier in the season
Thank you for your input, did you max out rank 3? Or still going. I would imagine most of the aggro stops around there. Obviously there are some, i was rank 6 last season NA and noticed a huge grow in control decks.
I'm not really trying that hard to get any higher to be honest. But there are indeed a lot more control Warriors and handlocks in the top ranks. But fear not my child, the shitty hunters are everywhere, thus always making this deck viable. But indeed, if you want to play this on higher ranks you might want to throw out a Shrinkmeister and a Shadow madness for something like a second Belcher or a heavy minion like Ragnaros.
Recombobulator is the only card i don't have, any replacements?
Depends on what decks you encounter the most. If it's all aggro / zoo, throw in a Wild Pyromancer. If it's more midrange / control, throw in another Sludge Belcher.
USELESS vs agro decs
My thanks for you constructive criticism
I'd be happy to make a video of me stomping one Hunter after another, which i actually manage to do with this deck, for anybody but you. I'm not going to do anything because somebody who calls me a 'fucking loser' tells me to do so.
Oh, and if you're going to flame on me or my deck bring me some good arguments, and not just scream it's bad (which is most likely, in my honest opinion, because you probably just can't use a deck properly that actually requires you to use your brain).
I respect all you priest players...no matter what deck I find and try to tweak I can never make the class work.
same, i hate priest facing them and playing them but after practicing this deck a lot on casual im starting to like it and get the hang of it.. however i'm still making dumb mistakes... :( soon i shall master it!
I used to be the same way, just hated priest in general. Then started playing it and now it's my favorite class to play. Using your opponents own cards and minions to beat them, love it.
Thanks! Usually control warrior is one of the toughest matchups, but if you manage to get value from your Shadow madness and Shadow priest, it's definitely do-able. Especially stealing an Acolyte is a punch in the face to any Warrior.
Replacement for Vojin is described in the deck description. Replacement for dr Boom would be a high cost legendary like Ragnaros, or just something to force some removal from your opponent, like a Sludge belcher.
This deck does beat agro all the time. Great work. Also stomps most mirror matches.
Thanks :)
running no mind control or Dr boom, i wonder how this deck performs against control deck
