Token Druid is really aggressive and can easily out-aggro the other aggro decks if it has perfect draw. Control matchups can get rough. No worries, tokens can still come out on top.
A perfect mulligan will see Acornbearer, Crystalsong Portal or EVIL Cable Rat, and Wispering Woods in your hand. Wrath is also incredibly handy to deal with early aggression.
Basically, you want to make your hand big for a turn 4 (or 3, with the coin and the perfect situation) Wispering Woods into 7 minions. If you don't have the card, simply build the widest board you can. Most opponents will notice the threat immediately, and will deal with your minions as quickly as possible. If you're left with a nice board, ideally, you want to pump up big with Blessing of the Ancients, Power of the Wild, or Savage Roar and strike face. If you fail to have any of those, or know you won't survive, Soul of the Forest is one magical card. It's basically a second chance.
The Forest's Aid is an insane backup late in control matchups. How good is twinspell? While there's not as much board wipes as there were pre-rotation, warrior, shaman, and mage have a couple of spells (so 4 in most decks, plus possible creation spells) that can be a right pain. If the game goes long enough, you should be able to build a board. With the Deathknights all rotated from standard, the end-game isn't as powerfully dominated by hero upgrades. Warrior still has Dr. Boom, Mad Genius, which, if he is summoned, will most likely see this deck lose unless you can swing for lethal the next turn.
Really fun and effective deck. I'm excited to see how it evolves as the meta settles
I've seen people ask if EVIL Cable Rat is worth running. In my opinion, yes. The reasoning lies in the hand. You can play the 2 drop then immediately replace its spot in your hand. This helps Wispering Woods be the best turn 4 play that it can be. The lackey battlecry can be quite handy, and adds another body to your board if you need it. Some prefer Hench-Clan Hogsteed. Effectively, it's better value for 2 mana, but it doesn't help fatten that hand. Also, lackeys are rad.
Love your passion!
Retweeted it also. Keep up the good work.
Thanks mate! Much Love!
This deck is absolutely amazing. You could start with nearly any sort of hand and have a game plan from turn 2 onwards (because you only really could drop squirrel girl on turn 1 anyways).
I think the key to making your opponent sweat bullets with this deck is to have a board that's 4-5 minions wide (Wispering Woods notwithstanding) and ignore the temptation to develop it any wider. If you're doing everything right, by the time it's 8 mana, your opponent would have spent at least 2-3 board wipes and it's time for The Forest's Aid, the first time. I've played against my fair share of token druids in the past and I'm not quite sure if I've ever seen something as demoralising as a board with 5 2/2s that I KNOW he could refill.
Knowing that I'm forcing my opponent to doubt his own decisions really makes my day.
P.S. I un-liked this deck so that I could like it again. =P
Glad you're loving it so much! It definitely lays down the pressure!
Board wipes suck. But us Token Druids can always bounce back! :D
Man I didn't even have Keeper Stalladris and this deck was still strong enough to carry me to rank 5. I just threw in Wardruid Loti in the meantime cuz I had him but Keeper is definitely way stronger in that slot
Thanks for the deck!
While a perfect hand can absolutely shred most opponents, an average hand can still dominate a game. When I first put it together, I was surprised at how many wins I managed, even with one or two The Forest's Aids in my opening hand and nothing to play until turn 3 or 4!
Ayy ty for the deck man, went 30-15 from around rank 16 to rank 5. :)
Nicely done! I hope your golden epic for the month is awesome! A golden Wispering Woods wouldn't be bad!
Deck seems very countered, at least at ranks 10-15. 9 / 10 matchups just hard counter this, they remove your board every single turn, even with soul of the forest.
Yes. This is so true atm im afraid. u see alot of rogue hunter and warrior decks after rank 5 aswell so its impossible to climb with this deck.
You can't win them all. Warrior will likely have 4 (or 6 including Dyn-o-matic). Other classes may have a similar amount of options for dealing with your deck. Be aggressive and don't stress about what they might have. You have plenty of opportunities to bounce back.
Also, hunter is usually an easy win. If they've put a trap down, play Soul of the Forest before you attack. Deal with any Scavenging Hyena before you create a big board, as you should always expect an Unleash the Hounds to follow. Those are the two main cards you need to worry about with hunter. It's a combo, and their deck should only have 2 of each. Yes, I despise Dire Frenzy too.
Remember, this is a PvP game. It's impossible for everyone to win every game. It's highly unlikely anyone can, regardless of deck!
hey dude, I just crafted this deck. you got any last minute mulligan advice? someone told me the other day that it's basically always the same pretty much, but I cannot remember what cards they said exactly.
having fun with the deck though, I'm totally learning a new style and stuff so it's all brand new.
I didn't wanna wait any longer and wanted to play this while it's still new... if it ends up getting knocked down then it wasn't that expensive really.
EDIT: sorry you have the info in your guide, just still high from that last game. ha ha.
EDIT 2: wow man, this deck is pretty damn stronk. has a ton of synergy going on, even if you don't get the optimal opener. That new legendary as well if used right refills your hand which then plays into the wisp card as well.
Think I'm going to like this playstyle.
Glad you're enjoying it! The guide is pretty simple, considering there are many ways to play the deck. End goal always remains the same: build your board as fast as possible, and once you've been allowed a board to survive past summoning sickness, pump and swing!
It's a good idea to to mentally count the maximum possible damage you can deal on a turn. 3x 2/2's, late in the game, is often enough for lethal if you have a couple of Savage Roar + Blessing of the Ancients or Power of the Wild. That scenario nets 25 damage!
I just ran up against a mage that kept putting massive taunts in my face. eventually he beat me though with this khadgar combo where he summoned like 4 of those paladins with divine shield and charge. was awesome actually. ha ha.
anyway, my question is that are we going to have problems with decks that keep throwing big taunts at us, maybe there is a poison minion or something to help out? I know if we manage to stack some buffs on a wide board, it probably won't always be a big deal, but I think maybe this kind of deck is a weakness for us?
I'm yet to run into a heavy taunt deck as of yet, but I can imagine the troubles. Worst I've had is Arch-Villain Rafaam, which can be taken down relatively easy with Savage Roar. Things get unpredictable after that! I've won and lost after such incidents.
I'd recommend just pumping and trading, it's not that hard to re-build your board. Don't be frightened to let your health slip a bit and hold Dreamway Guardians for the late game. A bit of pumping and they can bring you beyond lethal reach.
Also remember--despite how things felt with this on day 1 and 2--you can't win every game. The more common this deck becomes, the more people will utilise counters. We can still beat those decks, just need a little luck and persistence.
its actually not that easy, im facing mostly rogues and they have alot of removal and everyone knows to kill your token.
And start is so important to have coin or 1 drop, also Keeper Stalladris is crucial at start to refill your hand.
2-3 boardclears and you sit there with your buff spells in hand and die.
Without board wipes, this deck would be unbeatable. I'll admit they suck, but this deck does have the power to bounce back. You aren't going to win every game, however, it is possible to build a board and win after 4 or more board wipes.
Great Deck! Thanks a lot mate! Got from Rank 10 to 6 a just a couple of hours. you get my vote! Is it your deck or Misplay TV's? Cause I saw Tommy Wave video and its the same deck apparently.
I posted about how I came about this deck in a forum post here. Basically, I bumped into a rendition of it towards the end of day 1, while hanging around down the bottom of the ladder. Ended up making a few tweaks and building my own version. Absolutely loved it. Intended to hit rank 5 or legend before sharing, but by the end of day 2 I hit rank 6 or 7 and wanted to share.
In that post, someone mentioned that this deck was, ironically, exactly the same as a deck posted on another site. So my creation of it was this: I got smashed by a similar version of it, altered it for myself, played a whole lot, then shared. I wasn't the first person who figured out this build and post on the internet. I think I was just first to post it on Hearthpwn.
To answer your question, I can't confirm whether the video was inspired by this deck post, a deck posted elsewhere, or if the bloke had a similar journey as myself. Either way, we must have both ended at the same destination.
This deck was great the first day and a half or so, but it is starting to be increasingly simple to counter for the rest of the meta decks. Warriors with their tons of AoE clearing, Rogue's who tends to get that too via their burgle cards, and of course, freeze mages, who I am starting to see quite a few more off the last 24 hours or so.
I think Token Druid will do fine eventually, but the current iteration are starting to become hard countered, so it will likely have to go through some changes to combat that. We'll see, though for now at least, this is a fine, middling deck. Not oppressive like Bomb Warrior.
