My Jaws That Bite, My Claws That Catch, My Fins That Draw!

Hello everyone.

I'm here to present this new deck that I had in mind since the Shudderwock reveal, and finally I found some time to test and play. After the patch, I refined the deck and it's proven to be competitive and Legend viable, as well as hilarious. I reached rank 1 from rank 4 within the 2 days following the patch.

As any mill/fatigue deck, this is pretty hard to pilot correctly. I'm goint to write a detailed guide, that i will gradually develop. I hope it helps ;)

Strategies

Main strategy

As a mill deck, the strategy is always the same: draw cards with Coldlight Oracle, burn your opponent's cards, kill him with fatigue. In this deck, the fatigue advantage is built thanks to Baleful Banker that has a similar role to what Gang Up has for Mill Rogue. Shudderwock will copy this battlecry on itself (if it first creates a copy of him self thanks to Saronite Chain Gang/Doppelgangster battlecry), and you will get infinite copies of it.

This deck is built to have another win condition by filling the board with Shudderwocks with Charge that cannot be removed by spells. This is given by copying the following battlecries: Saronite Chain Gang/DoppelgangsterLeatherclad Hogleader, Loatheb.

Shudderwock mechanics

There are 2 important things to know about Shudderwock:

  • Its battlecry stops as one of the hero dies. This is actually good, since we do not need to worry about drawing too many cards: you need even a tiny fatigue advantage, because the battlecry will stop as soon as your opponent dies.
  • It casts the battlecries in a random order on random targets.

In this regard, you need to be aware that Baleful Banker and Zola the Gorgon can only trigger on other cards than the original Shudderwock. So you want to play Shudderwock on your empty board, and hope that at least one Saronite Chain Gang/Doppelgangster battlecry triggers before Baleful Banker/Zola the Gorgon

The same, in an opposite order, applies for Leatherclad Hogleader: if it triggers first, all the subsequent copy will have charge; if it triggers last, only one copy will get it.

So you may see how our strategy may present some chance to fail, and it's our job to make this chance as small as possible, by playing as many battlecries as possible before Shudderwock.
