I played this deck between rank 15 and 8 at the end of the last season.
First of all i would like to thank all of you for your attention and likes.
So this is my first try to write a guide and iam not a native english speaker so be gentle.
Iam NOT a legend player. My best rank at the end of a season was 7 so far.
So the following text is based on my skill and expierence on the ladder. Please keep that in mind.
If you're a better player then me please use your knowledge and give me some advice in the comments.
The problem in wild is there are a lot of different decktyps you could encounter here.
A lot of people playing wild and they still following the meta but some players like to play old decks they liked in the past or combo decks.
So i would like to show my experience with the different classes and what deck you could expect:
The order is decreasing in frequency
Druid : Jade , Aggro Druid , Big Druid/ Combo Druid
Hunter : Face , Beast / Deathrattle
Mage : Tempo , Quest
Paladin : Aggro , Secret, Dragon
Priest : Reno Razakus, Big Priest , Dragon
Rogue : Aggro , Oil , Mill
Shaman : Aggro , Evolve
Warlock : Control/Handlock, Cubelock , Renolock, Zoo
Warrior : Pirate , Control
Consider this for your mulligan
Mulligan
against Aggro
Duskbreaker is a must keep in this match up
Netherspite Historian to enable the combo
Slow your opponent down with taunts like Tar Creeper, Twilight Guardian, Lone Champion, Stonehill Defender.
against Control
Getting your Combo as fast as possible is the key to win.
So try to find Raza the Chained
Card draw like Northshire Cleric , Power Word: Shield , Bloodmage Thalnos
Warlock
You can keep Shadow Word: Death in this match up for potential a Mountain Giant against Handlock
Priest
The Priest who has his combo first wins the game mostly so try to get Shadowreaper Anduin
General tips vs. Control
The faster you get your combo the faster you win. Use your card draw to cycle through your deck.
When you have your combo is in place use your hero power wisely on board. Use it for face damage not every minion needs to be killed.
Don't waste your Silence . Cards like Rin,the First Disciple or Ysera are a huge threat and hard to remove without it. Also it is fuel for your maschine gunning hero power.
The finishing combo is Prophet Velen + Mind Blast + Holy Smite for 10 mana and 28 dmg.
General tips vs. Aggro
Getting the combo is not necessary in this match up. Try to keep the board clear and prevent damage to your hero. These decks will run out of steam.
Combine Spirit Lash with Bloodmage Thalnos or Azure Drake for more healing in close matches.
Changes
(since i build this deck)
+1 Prophet Velen +1 Mind Blast
-1 Psychic Scream -1 Crystalline Oracle
I had a lot of games against Control Warlock and i think this deck lacks burst against them so this should help.
The Healing Potion doesn't seem necessary so i change it for more value in control match ups.
The 71 % WR is based on my games at the end of the last season and maybe the people didnt play thier tryhard decks at that time. This season i have more problems to win games especially against aggro paladin as you mentioned.
Iam really interested what you would change . I think i could learn quite a bit from your approach.
But anyway thanks a lot for your analysis.
This afternoon i tried to build a combo-oriented deck with your advices. I removed almost the whole dragon package, got more draw and tried to still get some weapons against aggro decks. So couldn't play it yet but this is what i got
Again thank you for your comment. I will think about it and test it tomorrow
this is why the author is good he doesnt over react to protect his deck from critism he takes it as advise and is willing to change his cards to imrove it from other peoples input i know this from my own personal experience speaking with him i just wish more authors could be like this for a example a made a comment on a deck from another guy and he reprted me for negative comments i was only suggesting a card change hahahaha :D
Fun deck, I quickly went 3-0 with it this morning (albeit at R20 Wild). Reno/Dragon Priest was my favorite archetype back when MSOG came out. I'll definitely try climbing with it later. Like some others I did feel the lack of dragons kept some synergies from being used. Maybe I'll experiment with some substitutions next time I play, possibly with the N'Zoth package.
Edit: 7-1 so far, the one loss being to a Cubelock. 1 silence wasn't enough so if I run into more I'll likely tech a mass dispel.
Bad.
I am absolutely sure that you're right but i said that in the first sentence of my describtion so.......
Really great deck thanks for sharing, do you think Obsidian Statue has any place in this deck?
I thought about it aswell and for my playstyle i couldn't find any card i want to change for that. you could substitute Lone Champion for a greedy version of this deck but i lost all my last 5 games to aggro decks and unlucky draw(at rank 14).
So if you have more control match ups Obsidian Statue has more value and could work for you.
he can lethal yourself aswel though this way is safer imo :)
you can't use him if you're behind in lifepoints so no i don't think he is better.
I don't have Velen and Primordial Drake, Can I replace them with Spawn of shadows and Chillmaw?
yes those cards are good replacements
I think the amount of dragons is very low, maybe Twilight Whelp could replace one of the many 3 drops here
if you want more dragons in the deck you should replace Lone Champion. Its has the lowest value of all the 3 drops
Replacement for Lightbomb? Only card I don't have, would an Excavated Evil be fine?
i gues its closest thing i dunno though i might be tempted just to use a decent taunt :D
Lightbomb is the boardclear against big minions in this deck. Excavated Evil couldn't be an one by one substitute for Lightbomb. But it is another tool against aggro decks. If you need a tool against big minions i would put Psychic Scream in the deck. And with the cards we know right now Psychic Scream is the go to boardclear after the next rotation, so its worth to craft it.
nice to see that you have fun with this deck. gl for your journey on the ladder
its a nice deck +1
can Primordial Drake be replaced by The Lich King or something.
