Hey guys Spark here ! It's been awhile and today I wanted to share with you my new Midrange Hunter with the last expansion. I hit Legend with a 72% Winrate playing this deck.
Side note : I also played some Cube Demonlock around Rank 3 with great success. Here is my list for those who are interested : Spark's Cubelock
Deck Breakdown
The deck revolves around Secret and Beast synergies to overwhelm your opponent quickly and close the game as soon as possible. The gameplan is to develop your board early on, keep your momentum up with favorable trades and then push for face damage as much as you can before running out of steam. Games should generally be decided between turn 5 and turn 8, but can extend a bit if your looking for the right top-deck to finish-off a control deck.
The usual Beast package comes in with Dire Mole as a nice addition to stick on the board early on and get buffed by Crackling Razormaw or Houndmaster. Flanking Strike is an awesome tempo tool to deal with an opposing threat while developping a beast on the board. Finally, the infamous Corridor Creeper obviously comes in the deck, leading to insane tempo swings after some early trades as it can be dropped for free very quickly or simply give you a solid 5/5 Beast on turn 4 to threaten your opponent.
As for the secret package, Lesser Emerald Spellstone is the addition that justifies it. It can be an incredibly powerful turn 5 that ends the game if your opponent can't deal with it or it can simply help recovering from a board clear. Secretkeeper and Cloaked Huntress obviously comes in the deck to synergize with the secrets and pressure your opponent early on. Wandering Monster is really the true MVP of these secrets as it can compensate for a lack of early game board presence and/or punish your opponent from going face. Cat Trick is the perfect complement as it punishes Control decks very well and adds a lot of damage in the long run. Finally, Snake Trap and Venomstrike Trap are played for the "mind game", punishing your opponent for trading. Note that those are also triggered by Wandering Monster, which is pretty cool. Freezing Trap and Explosive Trap could also be considered for these spots depending on your preferences, but overall this set up turns out to be very solid.
Overall, the deck is pretty consistent and leads to very fast games. It can beat anything with the right starting hand, which is a very good point for a ladder deck. Of course, sometimes you won't have quite the good cards and will get countered slowly by your opponent, but you'll notice quickly if you can steal the game or not and then move on to the next game :)
Season 46 Update
Swapped out Savannah Highmane for Leeroy Jenkins to close games faster against Control decks and work around taunt or buffed minions. The deck feels even faster with this change. Feel free to tweak the deck around your preferences and metagame ;)
Mulligan Strategy
The gameplan is to pressure your opponent quickly, do some minor trades early on and work on lethal before running out of steam. That's why you want to get a good start like Dire Mole into Crackling Razormaw or Secretkeeper into a secret. Overall, you want to build a hand that "plays itself" and can build some good pressure each turn.
Always keep :
Secretkeeper, Dire Mole, Crackling Razormaw, Corridor Creeper.
Situational keep :
- Cloaked Huntress, Animal Companion and Eaglehorn Bow with The Coin or with 1-drop and/or 2-drop in hand when going first. Note that Cloaked Huntress is the safest keep here due to its solid body (and potential synergy with secrets that you may draw).
- Wandering Monster against Aggro or with Secretkeeper in hand.
- Cat Trick against Control or with Secretkeeper in hand.
- Snake Trap and Venomstrike Trap only with Secretkeeper and going first against decks that may want to trade into it early on.
- Lesser Emerald Spellstone if you have a secret to play on turn 2 and good hand all around.

Nice thanks for the feedback :)
Savannah is indeed replacable with Spellbreaker and Leeroy, that is fine and fits better the current meta I guess (due to Cubelock mostly)
As mentioned in the write-up Explosive Trap is a good trap as well, feel free to tech it if you face a lot of Aggro Paladin ;)
No problem bro. I really like this deck, it's very fun to play and it's surprisingly good. I tried to build Secret Hunter myself but I couldn't put all the pieces to work with synergy like you did, so I gave up on it until I saw this. I underestimated Flanking Strike, the card is an insanely good tempo tool.
I'm currently sitting at 72% WR off of 18 games (13-5) at 582 legend rank at the moment. Maybe I'm just being lucky, or maybe the deck is indeed good in the meta that we have right now.
If any help, I replaced 1 Savanna for Leeroy and 1 Wandering monster for Spellbreaker. The former in my opinion is a must in this deck while the latter is optional. The secrets can be switched depending on your local meta, but as you mentioned this line up works fine.
One last thing, I've been reading some comments about people not having too much success with this deck, I would like to mention that this deck is not as easy to pilot as your regular aggro deck, it is very important to optimize your hp to start pushing for damage as early as possible. Sometimes it is better to hp instead of summon a minion that is just going to get value traded by your opponent.
Honestly too big lacks, Cat Trick too important against Control and Cloaked key to the mid game overall. Bearkshark is a fine replacement, Freezing/Explosive can help to replace the trap. But overall, 2 core cards that you need in this deck =/
Some days I'll go 1-6 with this deck and others I'll go 6-1. As a big fan of hunter decks I love this one a lot! The more you play it the more you understand the mulligans and what you can and can't do against certain decks. Thanks for the deck Sparkaz, will definitely be following the rest of your posts!
Edit: also I dropped Snake trap and one of the Savannah Highmane's for Explosive Trap and Spellbreaker ^__^
Thanks mate glad you enjoy. Indeed, as every midrangey/aggressive deck, your starting hand implies a lot so you can have crazy win streak and bad streak playing it.
These changes are fine (trap explained in the write up and Savannah is the best card to swap for tech here) ;)
I made it and it's really good.
Thanks :D
It's working pretty fine for me, and I tend to suck at this game... I've made a few changes though (cut off 2xhighmane and 2xhoundmaster to add 2xspellbreaker, 1xflare and leeroy), to help with taunts and enemy secrets. So far, 34-19.
Yeah Highmane is replacable, Spellbreaker is a very good tech against Cubelock so that's fine ;)
Not sure how to tech this deck against cubelock but it's 80% of what I'm seeing. I don't know if this deck can consistently beat it. DK priest is also super difficult.
This deck shouldn't struggle too much against it but if you want to tech against it just cut the 2 Savannah for Leeroy + Spellbreaker (or even 2 Spellbreaker), you'll gain 5% winrate I guess ;)
Wouldn't Explosive trap be better instead of venomstrike?
It depends, Venomstrike helps a lot in matchups like Priest where Explosive is basically useless. Explosive is very solid against Aggro, but Venomstrike isn't useless at all so that's fine as well. If you really face a lot of Aggro, as suggested in the guide Explosive Trap is a good pick as well ;)
Well it deals the 2 damage to the face too, so not really useless I think. The deal with priest is that the freaking potion of madness takes the cobra and trades with one my minions.
I climbed to Legend with it, the player matters more than the deck ...
Some more game-play of this deck.
Nice :) That Rogue deck was pretty crap tbh though xD I guess I would have simply drop the Savannah or Turn 6 to work on lethal faster because the race was pretty favorable, but in any way that was easy win :P Also you can have use Flanking Strike on turn 4, even on the 1/1, just to pressure heavily and start rushing him faster, but overall not really a mistake, just a slower play ^^
very good deck !!! thank you
You're welcome :)
For newbies looking here for a deck to climb latter with I would recommend not crafting this deck. It's aggro but there are better aggro decks out there. The meta around rank 5 is basically aggro paladin or control lock and this deck doesn't compete with either.
