Hey guys Spark here ! It's been awhile and today I wanted to share with you my new Midrange Hunter with the last expansion. I hit Legend with a 72% Winrate playing this deck.
Side note : I also played some Cube Demonlock around Rank 3 with great success. Here is my list for those who are interested : Spark's Cubelock
Deck Breakdown
The deck revolves around Secret and Beast synergies to overwhelm your opponent quickly and close the game as soon as possible. The gameplan is to develop your board early on, keep your momentum up with favorable trades and then push for face damage as much as you can before running out of steam. Games should generally be decided between turn 5 and turn 8, but can extend a bit if your looking for the right top-deck to finish-off a control deck.
The usual Beast package comes in with Dire Mole as a nice addition to stick on the board early on and get buffed by Crackling Razormaw or Houndmaster. Flanking Strike is an awesome tempo tool to deal with an opposing threat while developping a beast on the board. Finally, the infamous Corridor Creeper obviously comes in the deck, leading to insane tempo swings after some early trades as it can be dropped for free very quickly or simply give you a solid 5/5 Beast on turn 4 to threaten your opponent.
As for the secret package, Lesser Emerald Spellstone is the addition that justifies it. It can be an incredibly powerful turn 5 that ends the game if your opponent can't deal with it or it can simply help recovering from a board clear. Secretkeeper and Cloaked Huntress obviously comes in the deck to synergize with the secrets and pressure your opponent early on. Wandering Monster is really the true MVP of these secrets as it can compensate for a lack of early game board presence and/or punish your opponent from going face. Cat Trick is the perfect complement as it punishes Control decks very well and adds a lot of damage in the long run. Finally, Snake Trap and Venomstrike Trap are played for the "mind game", punishing your opponent for trading. Note that those are also triggered by Wandering Monster, which is pretty cool. Freezing Trap and Explosive Trap could also be considered for these spots depending on your preferences, but overall this set up turns out to be very solid.
Overall, the deck is pretty consistent and leads to very fast games. It can beat anything with the right starting hand, which is a very good point for a ladder deck. Of course, sometimes you won't have quite the good cards and will get countered slowly by your opponent, but you'll notice quickly if you can steal the game or not and then move on to the next game :)
Season 46 Update
Swapped out Savannah Highmane for Leeroy Jenkins to close games faster against Control decks and work around taunt or buffed minions. The deck feels even faster with this change. Feel free to tweak the deck around your preferences and metagame ;)
Mulligan Strategy
The gameplan is to pressure your opponent quickly, do some minor trades early on and work on lethal before running out of steam. That's why you want to get a good start like Dire Mole into Crackling Razormaw or Secretkeeper into a secret. Overall, you want to build a hand that "plays itself" and can build some good pressure each turn.
Always keep :
Secretkeeper, Dire Mole, Crackling Razormaw, Corridor Creeper.
Situational keep :
- Cloaked Huntress, Animal Companion and Eaglehorn Bow with The Coin or with 1-drop and/or 2-drop in hand when going first. Note that Cloaked Huntress is the safest keep here due to its solid body (and potential synergy with secrets that you may draw).
- Wandering Monster against Aggro or with Secretkeeper in hand.
- Cat Trick against Control or with Secretkeeper in hand.
- Snake Trap and Venomstrike Trap only with Secretkeeper and going first against decks that may want to trade into it early on.
- Lesser Emerald Spellstone if you have a secret to play on turn 2 and good hand all around.

Just put in back a Highmane. Sometimes I wish I had it instead of Leeroy (but generally Leeroy is more in line with the gameplan). UTH can be an option if you face A LOT of Aggro as well ;)
And no, Reckless Rocketter is just bad, 1 more mana for 1 less damage is pretty weak considering this spot only fits the purpose of getting lethal fast.
Great deck man. I'm really enjoying it. When I'm facing a lot of control/taunt I take -1 Flanking Strike, +1 Spellbreaker. Seems to help on those nights where its warlock after warlock.
Thanks for the feedback. Yep that feels like an appropriate change if you need to adapt to more taunts like Voidlord ;)
Any subs for cubelock or dragon priest control decks? Can any weapon removal or silence fit here? Dont know what to do against the free 3/9 deathrattle taunt that makes more taunt dudes. They just keep bringing them out free or cheap then using ooze to or self destruction to make a lot of them. Resurrect priest feels simillar but seems less polished.
Well the change I made this season works great for me. Maybe a second Spellbreaker instead of a trap if you really want more to help with the Warlock matchup ?
Rez Priest isn't so relevant, you can't beat a god hand but most of the time you'll just poop on them before they can do anything ;)
do you think putricde could be swaped for a card he is such a fun card
I already tried it. It just doesn't fit because you pretty much dump your hand as it comes so you would very rarely use its effect (and the few times it happen, it's just very underwhelming honestly)
Is there any replacement for Corridor Creeper, i know the card is very good, but i just dont have the dust right now and would still like to play this deck. I tried using Bonemare but that felt to slow and usually ended up being a dead card.
There isn't really a good way of replacing it as it is such a core card for this kind of deck =/ I think Bearshark could do fine here though ;)
You make some great decks, but this one is bad. I can't win playing against any kind of control or aggro decks. There's no card draw, so if they clear your board or you draw worthless minions, then pray for a miracle. I just can't compete with locks, priests, druids or warriors. What good is secretkeeper on turn 5 when they've already built up a strong board, while I keep drawing puny or worthless secrets that they play around. Am I just supposed to hero power and save my secrets for that point or hope for a nice mulligan. Come on! This is a painful deck.
Well this is kind of the all-in aspect of the deck. I can understand some will feel too frustrated playing this. With that being said, it doesn't mean the deck is bad. I'm still using it this season and I'm on a perfect win streak facing various archetypes.
When you have poor start, it's ok to give up a game and move on ^^
Well, thanks for taking the time to reply. Sorry if I was harsh. I've been using your decks for years, and I appreciate the fact that you consistently assist us noobs with deck construction. Good luck this season. :)
Haha no problem buddy, I can understand the frustration behind these kind of decks. Sometimes it's very hit or miss. I had a weird session today running into infinite win-lose-win-lose and then suddenly grabbed a 6 win streak ...
Was having issues break into rank 5 for my chest - seemed everything was strong against my normal Priest options. Took this from 9 to 5 in one day. Thanks boss. :D
Nice ! You're welcome :D
Nice ! Thanks for the feedback, fast deck indeed which is good for grinding :P
As you said i crafted Corridor Creeper and changed 1 explosive and 1 freezing trap for 1 snake and 1 venomous trap. After getting beaten up pretty bad back to rank 10 i managed to climb to rank 5. Great deck overall :)
Nice, thanks for the feedback and gratz for the climb :D
Well I don't really know what to say. Generally people having this kind of issues are messing up in the mulligan phase, this is as simple as that. Good hand --> Can beat anything / Bad had --> Can lose to anything
Oh right if you face a lot of Aggro, this swap is definitely a must, Alleycat is crazy good in the early game, and helps out in terms of probability of having a 1-drop. If you face a lot of Aggro, crafting Snake Trap shouldn't be necessary as Explosive Trap does even better here. But it's still better than venomstrike in those matchups though, and helps a lot with favorable trades. You can consider UTH as well, especially against Paladin ;)
I initially had this variant of the deck, but swapped them out for Savannah because I was facing more slow decks at higher ranks ;)
TL;DR : Always adapt to your surounding metagame :D
