That was what I thought as well. Thanks!
We're in for a new breed of Zoolock
I keep reading clutchmaster......
With this card at least it will back up the Silverware Golems with the discard bonuses. That being said, I don't really believe that 3 cards out of 30 that benefit from being discarded will really be that good. At the moment the only good reasons to play discard is the quest and zavas. It seems like a mediocre idea at the moment but we will have to see what other cards they release first.
All in all I still think this is a pretty good card.
I would assume you can since it says "Whenever...." instead of "When you...." in it's text.
Yep confirmed it by playing it, 2/2 comes back as a 4/4 then discarted it again and 6/6.
Mal'Ganis is nonexistent, right?
Well the last 2 have been horrible.
I think this card has potential. Given the meta on Ungoro launch, this card could be incredibly strong. There are plenty of strong cards now with the discard ability attached to it (Doomguard, Darkshire Librarian, Soulfire, Lakkari Felhound) all seem playable in a discard deck. My only issue with this type of deck though is that it seems like it is going to be too slow, even slower if you want to run Lakkari Sacrifice. The issue with the discard mechanic is that it empties your hands insanely fast if you play a lot of them without Malchezaar's Imp and seeing how 4 of the total 8 discard effects (of cards they have shown so far) you would want to run (2x Doomguard and 2x Lakkari Felhound) that discard 2 cards, even if you discard Clutchmother Zavas 4 of those times, you are still going to have an empty hand a good majority of the time. Granted, the hero power can counter act this but tapping early on in the game (to recover from a lot of discarding) but the deck just seems to be too reliant on Malchezaar's Imp to help it run cleanly.
Another issue I see with this deck is that I don't see how it will compete with the current meta decks. Playing a version with the quest slows it down considerably against pirates, which Lakkari Felhound might help with, if you draw it. However, I don't think that playing the quest and discarding Clutchmother Zavas a lot of times will be able to compete with jades.
I am excited about this card, I think it can easily be a dominant part in the Meta if more useful cards are printed for this archetype.
The answer to your issue is to run lots of card draw and not rely only on Malchezaar's Imp. I could see Cold Light Oracles ran with The Curator to snag the murlocs and Clutchmother Zavas. I'd even consider running cantrip gnomes in the discard deck, if they get discarded oh well, but if you play them you get an early body and a draw, win win.
The issue I see with running Coldlight Oracles and The Curator is that Coldlight Oracle helps your opponents too much and The Curator is great for drawing cards, but would be too slow in my opinion. The discard mechanic is on creatures because they tend to be overstatted for their price and so you want to play them earlier than later as it helps you push for board control. As for cantrip gnomes, I don't know what you meant by that, if you mean Loot Hoarder or some other form of cheap draw, the warlock hero power should be able to take care of it. Putting in more card draw does not really do anything if it gets discarded.
I say that Malchezaar's Imp is something that you kinda need to rely on because it guarantees that your hand isn't going to empty from discarding cards. From my past experiences playing with discard decks, you either out tempo the enemy early on and they can't recover or you bring them down low enough to where you just finish them off with a Doomguard or Soulfire. This may not be what other people's experiences on discard decks are, but from what I can tell, it relies on Malchezaar's Imp. This is not THAT bad anyway, mulliganning aggressively will help you get it a lot of the time and even still, you are not going to want to drop an imp turn 1 as it doesn't have an amazing body and then doesn't help you cycle later on.
I do think the deck can perform decently without Malchezaar's Imp but I think that it definitely helps push discard warlock to be closer to a tier 1 deck.
Best case scenario is quest, coin, imp. Otherwise you're off curve and potentially not drawing for discards. Because you certainly wouldn't have a turn to waste before starting the quest and discarding cards.
Yeah like I mentioned earlier, running the quest definitely slows the deck down a lot and while it does have a really strong reward, I'm not sure whether it will be worth running or not as discard decks tend to be aggressive/zoo-like decks. However, starting off with a turn 1 Malchezaar's Imp might not be the best either (unless you have a Darkshire Librarian to follow it up) as the next good discard cards are at around turn 4 and 5 (Lakkari Fellhound and Doomguard). As the current zoo decks run several 1 drops, most of which are good turn 1 drops. With proper follow up, a Malchezaar's Imp is strong but without it, it is wasting it's effect which is important for the deck.
really curious how the discard animation will look like - i imagine it like: after being discarded the Clutchmother buzzes back to your hand
I wonder what other discard support card we get. I would imagine a card, maybe a Imp or murloc card with abilty "if you would discard card randomly, discard this card instead". That would give discard-lock great way of controlling discards and protecting important cards in hand least once or twice.
That's not a bad idea - on the one hand you kinda control which cards will be discarded and like you said you will keep your valuable cards (which is a pro for this type of deck), but this seems balanced for me, because if the minion is lacking on stats (like let's say 3 mana 2/2) and you didn't discard it earlier, you are stuck with a bad statted minion (like having patches in hand) and that would be punishing for running it in your deck. Every strong card should have its downsides or in this case the deck.
Exactly ;D
yay.more aggro and zoo
