It does, but most people are to stupid to understand this.
They dont understand that they get the value/synergy only sometimes, while the pirate deck gets it all the time (for them it is almost never a dead card...).
Edit: @Sweddy409
This is not true at all. A 4 HP body can trade better than a 3 HP body, so the chances of you beeing abel to keep the minion are going up. On turn 2 the DD spells deal like 3 damage.. so just like the totem golem this thing is "out of range" the most enemies to kill
While this is gonna be a crazy card for Pirate Warriors, there's also one other factor people are forgetting: It's a Beast. The way I see it, it's basically gonna be an auto-include for Hunter decks. Even playing the 2 mana 2/3 without the battlecry, you can get the beast synergy with stuff like Houndmaster, or Kill Command.
Theres many 1/1 Pirates you can use to buff this.
I think it depends on what we get to see later in the reveals. If the meta develops into using a lot of single-target removal then pirates will not run this card, but the way it is right now cards like maelstrom portal make this a go-to for any open pirate warrior slots waiting to be filled.
Please
Eating a patches or any pirate would give a 3/4 body which can be simply killed by a spell or a Chillwind yeti/ almost anything above 3 health
Not only does it destroy board presence and value but gives tempo away to the opponent, eviscerate, frostbolt + ping or many simple spells can deatroy the 3/4 like a totem golem
Totem golems dosent have much drawbacks but this card will limit board advantage and giveaway tempo, much like slighly buffed but still unviable Hungry Crab
This also would be more harmful towards pirate decks imo than being benificial anyway
there is a difference from hungry crab. if you play hungry crab for tempo it is a 1 mana 1-2. this is a 2 mana 2-3. its actually river croc which was played before in hunter decks. also this card is so strong in arena.
Pirates about to get buffed!
Eat patches 2nd turn 3/4.
YES! FUCK PIRATES
It doesnt "fuck pirates". It is a buff, because for you it is a dead card if you dont face a pirate deck. THEY can use it all the time.
So there's a lot of thoughts being flung around about Golakka Crawler, so here's my thoughts on this card.
This fucker is meta defining.
Now you may be wondering why when a lot of people view this as a useless tech card similar to Eater of Secrets. A Hungry Crab for Pirates as a lot say. Others say that it'll only be useful in arena. Well let me explain why that's not the case and will be an amazing card in constructed.
Firstly, unless you've been living under a rock you've probably noticed the game has a big Pirate problem. So many Pirate decks are infecting ladder, with the popular Pirate Warrior, and in Wild Pirates are even more popular as even Token Druids are using them. Hungry Crab doesn't work as a tech card for Murlocs aren't a problem as big as Pirates. Even if Murloc Paladins were all over ladder, Hungry Crab wouldn't stop them as that doesn't stop Anyfin Can Happen. Crawler though can be used to take out large Pirates like Bloodsail Cultist and Bloodsail Raider, and leave behind a 3/4 that can trade into another minion. The less pirates on the board, the better.
Secondly, Pirate decks can use this too, for it can target ANY Pirates, not just enemy Pirates. So turn 1 you play your N'Zoth's First Mate which summons Patches the Pirate, then turn two they can use the Crawler to destroy one of the 1/1s and now you got a 2 mana 3/4 for more punching power. Alternatively, Pirate decks can use Crawler as a counter to other Pirate decks, giving them board dominance and more punching power.
Lastly is the one thing people miss the most: The Beast tag. Because of that Beast tag this card is basically an auto-include for Hunters. Even if you're not fighting a Pirate deck as a Hunter, a 2 mana 2/3 beast is still great with all the beast synergy. Eater of Secrets isn't good on it's own because it's a 4 mana 2/4, but this is a 2 mana 2/3 that's also a Beast, so it can still be very useful if played without the Battlecry.
With all this in mind, there is no doubt in my mind it's gonna change ladder. Whether it changes it for the better or the worst is yet to be seen.
Nicely put.
Honestly not a fan. Not because I think it's too weak or too strong, but I don't like the idea of cards that are only made to be blatant counters to a recent meta. Still, it seems useful for holding back Pirate decks, though I don't think it'll stop them singlehandedly.
I don't think it will be used in Pirate decks like some people are suggesting; best case scenario, you eat Patches and merge them into one minion. Might not be enough benefit to include. Maybe a mirror match tech?
I would be very surprised if there were not an anti-Jade tech card in this set. Blizzard has two choices.
1: Power creep, such that Un'Goro decks can beat Jade
2: Anti-Jade tech
Since this is the first of the rotation, they need to move the power level down so that the next two sets can creep a bit. So it should be #2.
An anti-Jade tech would likely fit in with what I think about this card, though. The cleanest way to do it would have to be something lie "Battlecry: Reset your opponent's Jade Golems.", which is highly specific and clearly meant to counter a certain type of deck. It's a lot less elegant than counter cards like Dirty Rat, which have uses outside of targeting specific decks.
Plus, if it were released in this set, it would be in Standard after the Jade cards rotate out, making it pretty useless and referencing a mechanic that's no longer usable (for Standard, where most players are).
The new Totem Golem against pirates.
I fell like this could backfire really hard actually.
I mean, PIrate decks usually start their first turn with 2 pirates on the board (more if coin potentially). Usually one of these pirates survives the following turn (very few casses actually have or runcards that can deal at least 2 damage seperately on turn 1 or 2). So if Pirate Warrior were to run thiss guy they could basically create a totem golem on turn 2 by sacrificing a weaker 1/1 while at the same time either denying or contesting an opposing crawler + if Pirate warrior still stays strong then the might run these anyways simply to counter other pirate warriors.
If this beame a problem you could fix it easily tho by just changing it to "enemy pirate".
Beware the crabs my friends, they are crafty motherfuckers
I doubt a pirate deck would run this, the fact that it isn't a 2 mana pirate is a bit of a killer.
do you not get what I'm saying? I mean that Pirates will run this as a solid minion by sacrifiing their insignificant 1-drops instead of it being used to counter them.
Then we ahve Totem Golem for Pirates and we all know how balanced shaman was with that card
