Spell Damage +1. Deathrattle: Draw a card.
He's in charge of the Annual Scarlet Monastery Blood Drive!
I'm sure that in a future expansion, we're going to see some kind of class version of the Thalnos card, like a 2-cost 1/1 minion with Deathrattle: Draw a Card, but also has another effect to go with the class, like "Unlock your Overloaded mana crystals", "Spells cost 1 less", or "Battlecry: Deal 1 damage to all minions".
Always been curious why he says "we" hunger for vengeance, and not "I hunger for vengeance".
Crazy powerful in Midrange Shaman. Only possible replacement is a golden Bloodmage Thalnos.
This card is just insane. He doesn't look good but he is just sick!
I remember getting this card a long time ago. I was still new at the game and I thought this card was absolute shit, mainly because of the stats, 1/1. So I disenchanted it. Man, do I regret it now. So many great decks use this card. It's crazy powerful and has insane value for 2 mana. Don't make the same mistake guys.
Ok, so once I opened a pack and get golden Thalnos, and I thought "Yeah, free legendary" and disenchanted it, and now I needed to disenchant a lot of cards to craft it back, don't make my mistakes.
I crafted normal version to play miracle rogue in the beginning of WOG and now got a golden one from a pack. Feelsbadbutnosobad.
Now that mage has the 2 mana 3/2 spell damage +1 it can be better than this. Mostly for tempo mage of course and not freeze where thalnos is still the best. Thalnos got a little worse for mage imo with that, but he is still strong in rogue
3/2 is not even close to thalnos in any non-aggro deck.
A lot of people underestimate him and don't have a clue of how good this card is. It is as much core card in miracle rogue as VanCleef believe me. I crafted him with my hard earned dust (f2p) and very happy with his performance. Suddenly my matchups vs zoo become much better, because just look this way: For 5 mana you can Thalnos + Fan for 2 damage and doesn't technicaly even loose a card (fan draw and thalnos also draws). With prep it just calls R.I.P zoo.
The 2 mana cost is usualy a cost of drawing a 1 card. But this one is just powerhouse. The 1/1 body is surprisingly decent because of threat of that Spellpower bonus. People would most likely spend 2-1 mana to remove him. It is also just perfect in any type of druid decks even with Fandral. The ability to swipe for 5 + 2 to all board + face for 6 mana is just game changing.
This is one of the best legendaries in my opinion. It cannot be straightly compared in raw power with Ragna or Ysera (i'm considering only classic set here) but in fact it is somewhat near to the power level of Sylvanas, just at 2 manacost scale.
This card should epic not legendary.
Take novice engineer: sama mana cost, same stats, card draw on battlecry and it is a common card
This one has a worse card draw (only on deathrattle) and 1 spell dmg as extra stat.
1600 dust is way too much
Bloodmage Thalnos is NOT a bad legendary and most definitely couldn't be epic. You have to experience the impact of this in a freeze mage.
He is a small tempo changer, like sylvanas but in a different way. Can destroy the board with a 5* flamestrike, end most 4 health minions with firebolt and help rogue for extra reach or easy removal.
His potential and options are amazing but I understand if it doesn't make sense for someone to spend 1600 dust on him. I didn't regret crafting him.
Guess fabjx never tried thalons + backstab on turn 2 on mana wyrm/tunnel trogg/northshire cleric
i purchase 40 pack to get this card and does not get it, so i decide to use the dust from extra card to craft it. Not so long after, i got free pack from travern brawl only to find this card in it, feel bad man :(
Stating an obvious fact that a lot of new players might fail to consider : nothing in card games is more important than the ratio of card/value. On this alone, Thalnos is, by a distance, the most useful thing to play in Hearthstone. The least flashy legendary is also the overall best one, it's been strong in every meta, will never get nerfed and won't cycle out of standard. To all those wondering if he's worth crafting : just do it, you'll see.
Hello there. There were a lot of review requests for Bloodmage Thalnos and numerous questions like "should i give 1600 dust for 1/1 minion?" We'll try to find out.
Backstory: I disliked that card, like every other new player. Why would i want a legendary that is just Loot Hoarder + Kobold Geomancer? I i need Spell Damage, i will use one, if draw - another. His stats are poor for 2 mana creature, as there are like 2/3 or 3/2 or whatever stats they have. That was the disattractive factor. Then i got it from a pack and wanted to dust, because couldnt find a place in my decks. Then i realised his purpose and found some usage.
That time i didnt realise the particular power of spell damage and draw. Each of this is important(draw is more, though), but in particular classes Spell damage is a big deal. This card is very powerful in most damage spell containing decks. It has very common use in Mage and Rogue mostly, but druid and shaman can efficiently use it as well. Any class that has damaging spells can, but Rogue and Mage benefit from Bloodmage Thalnos the most. Basically, he is not played for tempo or stickness, he helps you to deal with enemy stuff with spells or to push for lethal. You dont care if he dies next turn, you will still beefit from card replenishment to support your card amount to buld midgame card advantage. You dont drop him for good trading value, you use him for control or burst. Let's see the each class usage of it. Not all, of course.
In rogue it is very good, becuase it is a combo starter, so Eviscerate and other combo cards become activated. With +1 spell damage you deal 3 damage with Backstab, 5 with Eviscerate(kills a lot of dangerous minions like Emperor Thaurissan, Fandral Staghelm, Thing From bellow, etc), 6 with Shadow Strike(Enough to take down popular taunts like Twin Emperor Vek'lor, Druid of the Fang; Ancient Shieldbearer and others), also you can perform 5 mana 2 damage across the board +2 card draw for 5 mana, if you play Bloodmage Thalnos + Fan of Knives. These are the most common uses in rogue. It has other combos, but try to figure it out by just looking on rogue spells.
In mage it is very dangerous card, because mage has high-efficient low-mana cost combos like Frost bolt + Ice Lance. It would deal not 7, but 9 damage. Combine it with other burst spell, and you get very high damage output, which is possible just with 2 additional mana spent. The more spells you cast, the higher value of spell damage you get. So the most threatning use of Bloodmage Thalnos in mage is playing it in Freeze archtype. It is win condition enchancer there. You burst your opponent down faster with him, obviously. In Tempo mage he is replaced wth Cult Sorcerer, but Tempo means somewhat aggressive archtype, not high-controlling or combo. Bloodmage Thalnos is combo card and control-oriented. If sevaral damage spells and Bloodmage were discounted with Emperor Thaurissan, mage can deal insane burst. let's try to count. Thalnos (1M) + 2xFrost Bolt(2M 8 dmg) + 2xIce Lance(0 m 10 dmg) + Fireball(3m 7 dmg) + 2x Roaring Torch(4m 14 dmg). So, get 39 damage for 10 mana. Amazing, huh? This is enough to take most classes down. Sure, you can use only few of these cards if nessessary.
Shaman has [cardLightning Storm[/card], Elemental Destruction, Lightning Bolt, Lava Burst and a lot of others, so if you spend 2 mana on Bloodmage Thalnos, you guarantee spell damamge like from [card][Air Wrath Totem/card] and also get 1 card back after it dies.
Druid's Swipe with spell damage s devastating. Enough to wipe zoo or aggro decks for 6 mana.
Now, about comparing of cards a lot of people compare him with Azure Drake, Kobold Geomancer, Loot Hoarder, as i said. Yes, they are simillar, but low manacost allowws to do more possible synergies with Bloodmage Thalnos compared with Azure Drake, and combining 2 cards in one saves your card space in deck and gives both effects.
So, to conclude. I want to say that Bloodmage Thalnos is a versalite card in spell-oriented decks, so people who play mage, rogue, druid druid or shaman may consider crafting him. It is Expert set card, so he won't cycle out. This card seems weak in the first sight, but he is used for other purposes than other legendaries. Sure you can use above written cards to substitute him, but you will have to sacrifice card draw / spell damage / mana pool, depending what you choose to swap him for.

Neutral legendaries: Baron Geddon | Malygos | Deathwing | Bloodmage Thalnos | Cairne Bloodhoof | Leeroy Jenkins| Harrison Jones |Sylvanas | Ysera | Ragnaros | Alexstrasza | Kel'Thuzad | Arch-Thief Rafaam | The Black Knight
Class ones: Cenarius | Edwin VanCleef | Archmage Antonidas | Tirion Fordring | Jaraxxus | Prophet Velen |Grommash Hellscream
Grom next? I can't count how many times I got either killed or put on very low health by him + cruel taskmaster.
This card is easily top 5 for me. The low cost combined with draw an extra card is crazy-nice OP. Hunter (along with some other useful cards that work with this one) was left off the list. Arcane shot - cost 1, does 2 damage. Quick Shot cost 2, does 3 damage, Kill Shot cost 3, can do 5 damage, (not to mention all the secrets) - now add a buff +1 that would be difficult to do with a higher cost card - yes, even the kobold. What you want most of the time is a low cost spell buff to get that little extra and put the game away. I have finished several games dropping Thalnos and using two kill shots. Like the Ironbeak Owl - that one point of mana cost makes a HUGE difference! Players went form having that in every deck to just not using it. The one point makes a big difference. Getting an extra card and buff makes a huge difference. Any of the classes mentioned above and this one can really make good use of this card.
Think about this when comparing to all other legendary cards. The second you drop one like Archmage - poof. it's a 7 cost. But you have to cast spells to get the fireball added to your hand. So you can't really drop it on turn 7 (else it's gone before you even use it) so you wait until 8, maybe 9 and quite possibly 10 before using it. Thalnos - drop any time, get the card and buff. So you were able to get a couple things out of it where the other legendary cards can prove to be way too slow and situational. You can use this card every time - no matter what. You get something. That puts it high on my list.
I will admit however, when I first saw this card (like everyone else ) I thought, no way I am making that card. Then I got one and "reluctantly" used it. At first, I just wasn't sure how to use it - just drop for extra card? I never realized how amazingly useful that low cost buff was until I was able to easily take out all those 4-5 health minions with ease - and get an extra card out of the deal! Then it really came in handy in my rogue decks, and again in the mage. This card went from being - what? are you serious?! to - whoa- that's super powerful! Make it golden!
I just crafted him today. It was hard to pay 1600 dust for a 1/1 body but he really give you the edge in miracle rogue.
Really happy I drew him from a pack. Surprisingly useful. That combo damage with Arcane Blast is great, but really just a nice damage boost any time in the game. Card draw is nice too.
