The idea of this card is based on the Tavern Brawl and in that Tavern Brawl you got a 4 drop. I guess it will be the same with this card.
It would be cool to get an Ancient Shade out of this.
Play this with Frost Giants. Turn 8, play this with frost nova, then your opponent has to burn removal on a 0 attack minion, or let it live.
If they let it live by not removing it, it allows you to play things like flamestrike, poly and fireball to get huge value. I see this as actually making freeze mage quite deadly.
Also, interesting is that it has the EXACT same stats as my version of meeting stone that I made more than a year ago:

So, now some part of me hopes that my card had an impact on the game. :D
Things in Hearthstone are never simultaneous. It just appears simultaneous. In this case it would not summon a minion because the spell text phase occurs AFTER the On Play Phase. The reason that Wild Pyromancer triggers after casting Resurrect is because the After Spell Phase occurs after the spell text.
You can see that the sequence also makes sense in the case of Violet Teacher because when you use Power of the Wild, for example, it will summon a Violet Apprentice, THEN buff it because the On Play Phase activates, then the card text. Hopefully that clears things up.
The following is from http://hearthstone.gamepedia.com/Advanced_rulebook#Playing_a_spell
When you play a spell, the following Sequence takes place:
Violet Teacher learned it all from a rock.
For modified mana cost cards will it summon the modified cost or the original cost?
I'm pretty sure all the cost-altering effects only change the requirement to cast them, but not changing the actual card per se. The moment it leaves your hand it is a normal card (as far as being sapped/copied/triggering cost effects).
We'll have to see for sure, didn't try any mana altering in the brawl, but sap/effigy on discounted units support this theory so far. Holy Wrath + Molten Giant also supports this as well. If you look at videos it deals 20 damage regardless of your health, because the CARD COSTs 20, you just get a discount based on your health aka the CASTING COST.
EDIT: Proven wrong, summoning stone uses the NEW cost :-( There goes that theory.
Huge potential for Mages, Priests, and Rogues. Rogues in particular thanks to Master of Disguise. Priests should combo this with Inner Fire.
I could just see it with Conceal, Oil, Sprint, etc.
Also, druid with things like innervate into Nourish.
Alright if I understand the advanced rules correctly it would be possible to play Summoning Stone, then next turn play Twisting Nether, which could summon Sneed's Old Shredder. Both would be killed, then the death rattle has a small chance to summon Kel'Thuzad, and when the turn is ended all is restored.... that's some fun RNG.
We were just LAB RATS for the tavern brawl!!!!
Finally, the Objects has reached Hearthstone
Pull it with Unstable Portal and let the fun begin.
I love this card, but in a meta where Tempo is such a dominant factor I can't really imagine a situation where I could play a 0/6 for 5 mana :(
Inner fire priest deck? totally making that.
This card will complete my freeze mage deck omg blizzard thank you for taking care of Mages and not shamans this expansion lol! ( Yes this is a neutral card I know)
Because mages needs more help than shaman....
Shamans are fine on there own! They have Stormforged Axe... and.. and... The Mistcaller! AND... Uhm... EARTH ELEMENTAL! There fine...
