I'm honestly surprised this isn't at least a 5/5 considering...

A 5/5 for 4 is over curve. Blizzard would not release a 5/5 for 4 without some downside, let alone an upside such as this effect works out to be in an aggro deck.
Lightspawn is a 5/5 for 4, but it loses attack when it takes damage and is vulnerable to silence. Anub'ar Ambusher's effect is usually a disadvantage because it loses you tempo; you can use battlecry effects again, but that rarely justifies the loss of tempo from a random self Sap.
There's tons of bad class cards, this isn't one of them.
This likely could see play in Standard mode in a more aggressive Priest deck, it does a significant amount of damage to the enemy hero and if you heal face, then it only does half of that to your own. Priests do not often struggle with their life amount unless faced against aggro hunter or shaman.
If you heal face it is 5/4 4 mana with pay 2 mana to deal 4 damage to the enemy hero and 2 to yourself which isnt good but you can build an aggro "shadow priest" deck around it where the 4 damage to your face wont matter.

Why is this rare yet Shadowbomber is epic?
Ah, I can answer this one! Both are unique abilities (which is why Shadowbomber is epic) but unlike Shadowbomber, Spawn of Shadows has a conditional "Inspire" requirement instead of being battlecry, hence the demotion to Rare instead of Epic.

This card is trash hate to say it. 4 mana 5/4 that does 4 damage to yourself.. too slow too weak and just awful mechanic. Hope I am wrong about this one.

first thing I'm going to try is this plus molten giants
on its own its not really that awesome but it could possibly pave way to fun combo plays with shadow priest.
I know people like the idea behind shadow priest, and it can be fun to play but I still can't seeing it being competitve even with all the new additions. More power to anyone who makes it work though.
Cool idea! Here is why it sucks. It is obviously trying to be an aggro card. Aggro decks don't want a 4 mana card that needs another 2 mana to do anything. Its too slow for an aggro deck and too aggro for anything else.
That's assuming the current meta. If anything, this expansion looks to be slowing the pace of the game. I think there's a fair chance that aggro decks will be able to make more use out of higher cost cards than they previously were.
If your putting in higher costed cards than aggro, that would be midrange which has a bit of a different goal and wouldn't really want this card. Meta has really nothing to do with it.
That kinda depends on how you define everything. Potentially, by definition of "mid", what we now call midrange could also be a more long-term game than it currently is. Aggro to me suggests prioritizing aggressive play over defensive. This card is simply meant to deal damage to the enemy. It doesn't gain you board control, it doesn't protect you from damage, it doesn't synergize with much... I guess it has anti-warlock properties to it, but it's primarily meant to deal damage to the enemy hero. It really all depends on the new meta. Right now it's all about speed, but we might very well find that the effective strategies favor time and planning. A card like this might be much quicker in comparison to other styles.
TLDR, let's withhold total judgement until we see how the meta evolves
