A wonderful card in any dragon synergy deck. A 6/6 Taunt will hold off many aggro decks, and the Deathrattle is the sweet icing on the cake.
this is sindragosa, not chillmaw btw
My first legendary had to be a golden chillmaw... and I'm pretty sure I have no other dragon cards.. sigh.
The legendary pity timer is separate across different types of packs.
A must have for dragon decks...
i like chillmaw as it's stat line is nice and the taunt helps. the damage as many popular minions has 3 health is nice but i do question what is it's value if i don't have a dragon? it is nice with one but if i accidentally play the last one i had or was forced to then what do i do?
Without a dragon in your hand, it can play as a bluff. Your opponent will tend play as if you have one.
That's one of the best things about this card: the uncertainty it gives your opponent. While they'd be smart to assume you have a dragon, not knowing is a great headgame bonus. My favorite card of the TGT release.
Must have for dragon decks.
Got one in the first TGT pack I opened!
Too bad I don't have any good dragons to use her with. I guess she will have to wait for her time to shine.
Also Raymond Swanland is a god among TCG artists
Same for me, but i opened a golden one XD (1st tgt deck). Looks beautiful, but i dont have dragons :P
You used to see abomination run in extremely heavy control decks on occasion. The reason it never really made the cut is because the stats weren't that strong and the 2 damage across the board was only good against extreme aggro. Chillmaw has a SIGNIFICANTLY better statline, isn't BGH-able, and deals 3 damage across the board instead of 2. I consider that extra point of damage to be EXTREMELY relevant. If that all wasn't enough, it fills a mana slot that didn't have a dragon in it previously. All in all, I'd say your assessment of this card is the only thing that's rubbish.
I was lucky enough to get it in the few TGT packs I opened, but I'm trying to make a dragon deck with it, and in most cases the mana curve is too high, even when you are trying to bring it down as much as possible. Plus, even if you put heals and minion removals in, aggro decks will just rush zerglings into face that you won't be able to counter. I have always wanted to play a dragon deck, and I've got quite a few from Blackrock etc. but they're all mana-expensive and don't fit & synergise as well as Beasts or Mechs.
(I know that according to the lore you can't really have a "cheap" dragon since they are all extraordinary creatures, but then again you have Faerie Dragon.)
(Update: it works perfectly in Dragon Priest who has an excellent mana curve & lots of synergies. One of my most useful legendaries by far.)
try adding it to the ramp druid package
It's good advice but the card that gives you the best mana discount for dragons, Dragon Consort, is Paladin only. I will try to make a dragon Druid deck though...
You ought to be able to build a much lower curved dragon deck now with the addition of Twilight Guardian. I'm currently running a deck based on the dragon warrior from Icy Veins, with subs for the cards I don't own (don't have Chillmaw or Varian) and some techs for the meta. It's a solid deck with an excellent early game and smooth curve. I'm sure you'll find similar lists on this site.
I tried (not too hard, I admit) a ramp dragon druid deck but I couldn't make it work, even with Astral Communion thrown in. While you're ramping, aggro makes you spend minion removals just so you're not left behind. Even Aviana rarely works for me (I was lucky enough to get one in a pack, but no big thrills a la Trolden videos whatsoever..)
I've had better luck with a dragon priest deck that I made that includes 2x Shadowfiend (thus proving nice mana discounts for all cards & not just dragons like Consort does) while having early minions too. So far I'm missing 2x Twilight Guardian but 2x Wyrmrest Agent is working fine, too. (UPDATE: got them all and Priest seems the most viable dragon deck choice so far...)
You don't want a deck full of dragons though, so that you can choose when to have Chillmaw activate its board clear effect or not.
Dragon Warrior is still out of my reach due to the rarity of elite cards involved.
I must admit that I haven't made a dragon paladin deck that works so far... The best luck I've had with the TGT cards is Priest. Even Druid doesn't seem very viable, even with the mana ramp. But it's good to see many dragon deck ideas coming up (even Warlock!), so you never know...
One of the three legendaries I got, and I REALLY want to make him work in a deck but im not sure which yet. Currently im using him in a topheavy dragon priest and I was thinking about including him in control warrior but it sure is hard because I am only running two dragons in my CW so im not sure if its worth it using him.
It's a she.
