Clarifications
- The Divine Shield is granted to Cobalt Guardian himself. (Source)
Whenever you summon a Mech, gain Divine Shield.
Guardians used to be built out of Adamantium, but production got moved to Gadgetzan and Cobalt was cheap.

its hard to say how good this card will be because we have not seen the rest of the set but my deck is most likely bad because its to slow more like a 7 mana card with really bad stats.
If this card can repeatedly gain Divine Shield over and over again, perhaps Blood Knight could become a viable tech card in Paladin decks once more? (even more so against the mirror matchup)
Here's how I would imagine it:
Step 1: Play cheap mech, Cobalt gains shield
Step 2: Cobalt makes a favorable minion trade
Step 3: Play another cheap mech, Cobalt gains back the shield
Step 4: Play Blood Knight for Value
Step 5: Play one more cheap tech for one more shield
I don't know what anyone would hope to accomplish with this card, the only way it survives is if you happen to have a taunt or secret in play to slow down the opponent. It dies to cheap removal and minions otherwise and it just requires too much setup to get value out of this card, despite being a mech. Immediate thought was that it would be much better if the stats were reversed, a 3/6 y'know.
I sure hope Bolvar Fordragon makes up for new, underwhelming Paladin cards like this one. Very unimpressive, but it shouldn't be written off as completely useless until we get to experiment with it.
Ahaha! The old "wait and see" optimist comment with the addition of theorycraft to brainwash yourself into believing that this card even had any potential since it's conception. Hilarious.
And I'm correct. Hilarious analysis. Did you not learn from your Mini-mage and Anima Golem predictions?
So what? There can be no complaining of your fail 'theories'? You made a prediction. You were wrong. Simple as that. You're lucky I even waited for time to prove that this was truly a bad card before calling you out.
Colbalt Guardian's stat distribution was terrible to begin with. You had to theorycraft a situation where this card had even decent value. This card is bad even in a Divine Shield oriented deck.
I'm correct and you are wrong. No need to be upset.
Anyone know if he procs himself? I can see this being pretty good if it comes out with a shield already, but if he doesn't seems like a weak 5 drop for only 3 hp
I was wondering the same thing. What is the order of operations here? Does it comes into play and see that it is a Mech so it gets Divine Shield?
That got me thinking about other minion cards that have powers upon entering play. Mind Control Tech actually steals the target before it comes into play. This has been seen in cases where it steals a Knife Juggler and then the Juggler throws a knife for the Mind Control Tech coming into play.
With that example, the power triggers before the card enters play. That being the case, the Mech card would enter after the power was activated on the board so I would think that yes, he would trigger his own power.
I could be wrong though but the limited evidence supports Cobalt Guardian giving itself a Divine Shield upon entering play.
EDIT:
Looks like it doesn't making it far worse than I thought.
@dino_wine it does not. Starving Buzzard doesn't trigger itself either.
It's a turn 7 play with Annoy-o-Tron, in my opinion.
Fun concept. He's got the potential to get a lot of work done, but your mileage will vary (greatly).
Why? I mean Annoy-o-Tron already has divine shield
This just sounds fun.
Worthless if it gives divine shield to himself. Wrath, frostbolt ect kills it easily.
If he gives divine shield to mechs that you play, it's better
Compared to other late game plays it seems a little on the weak side though. As a turn 6 or 7 play I can think of a lot of things I would rather have, and it requires you to have mechs in hand in order to work. If you play it turn 5 it would just die. Cool idea but I am not overly impressed.
i think with this card paldadin is going to be played a lot more, its fucking ridiculous in a divine mech rush deck
