- It can transform your minion into a minion from any class or neutral. (Source)
- The minion you become will be any of the collectible minions. No tokens. (Source)
- The transform may replace your minion with another minion of the same name. (Source)
So you would rather change a 2/1 with a deathrattle that helps your opponent a little to a 2/1 Murloc Raider or 1/1 Angry Chicken... hmm...
I would rather recombobulate something that has a great battlecry, like Bomb Lobber, Cabal, Healbot, etc. than not give the opponent 5 health (unless, of course, you're pushing for lethal, but then you shouldn't have played Zombie Chow in the first place).
This card is really good on battlecry minions, tokens, and 6+ minions, and it's fun too!
This card is overpowered, especially in Paladin. The combo is, literally, Force Tank-Max, and then Recombulator to obtain a legendary. Force Tank-MAX is the only 8 mana minion that's not legendary, and Recombulator guarantees that the changed minion is not the same as the one you're changing it from. All of the other 8 Mana legendaries are legitimately OP. Play Force Tank-MAX, and then you get either Ragnaros, Sneed's Old Shredder, Foe Reaper 2000, Gruul, al Alkir, Tirion or Grommash. There is no other combo in the game that transforms a common card into a guaranteed overpowered legendary. Even if you would argue that Gruul and Foe Reaper are second tier legendaries, it still gives you a 5/7 chance at the strongest legendaries in the game, including 3 of the strongest class legendries, the only two with charge, the only two with taunt, and the legendary that guarantees a third legendary.
As such, the question is, in which deck is Force Tank-MAX most viable? The case for a heavy Paladin is the fact that it has divine shield. GvG emphasizes divine shield in Paladin, and so it's only a matter of time before there's a gimmicky divine shield mech Paladin deck that can use Force Tank Max effectively, exploiting it's mech feature, for additional mech combos. Though, the debate could be made for Force Tank Max to fit in with handlock or control warrior, which already features heavy creatures and large legendries. This is why the Recombulator/Force Tank MAX combo which requires 10 mana for it to be pulled off in a single turn, and gives you a 3/7 chance for immediate damage (Rag, Al alkir, Grommash), is one of the most overpowered combos introduced in GvG. Even if the combo isn't available, Force Tank MAX is a heavy body which will soak up minions should the opponent deal with it immediately and a single turn combo isn't viable.
EDIT: Forgot 1/8th chance of an Ironbark Protector- It's soulbound and not craftable. Regardless, a 7/8 chance for a legendary isn't bad.
It also could be Ironbark Protector. But for 8-cost minions you have only 2 commons and 8 Legendaries.
But why play Force Tank Max at all? Why not just... use the good legendaries to begin with? Force Tank Max still costs you 8 mana, so you aren't doing yourself a favor by paying 10 mana for a ragnaros. It's a good combo if your deck already runs Force Tank Max... but I don't know of any decks that do.
I think the idea is to play it in budget decks that only had 400 dust to spend or otherwise didn't have enough to make a legendary but got Recombobulator.
I used this on my Rag that was at 8/5 and was probably going to die the next turn. Transformed it into an Al'akir. Been using him on Healbots, Gnomish Inventor and Quartermaster to get the battlecry then a new, hopefully, better minion.
In my last game, I just Shrinkmeistered a Shieldmaiden, Shadow Madnessed her, attacked to do three damage, and then Recombobulatored into a Gadgetzan Auctioneer.
That's a crap-ton of value right there. I spent eight mana across three cards, and got removal (five mana?), two 3/2s (four mana), a six mana minion, plus 3 damage (two mana or so). Double your investment!
Turns your Antique Healbot into Spiteful Smith, your Enhance-o Mechano into Pit Lord, or your Argent Commander into Cairne Bloodhoof. Awesome!
Oh god this card is so good,I transformed my Ysera into King Krush and then Mal'Ganis on the same turn with two of these.
this guy is IMBA, very powerful
Do deathreattles go off when you use this card? If I use this on Sylvanas, will it steal one of the cards?
Since it says 'transform' I'd assume deathrattles are not activated. Similar to Polymorph which states it transforms a minion into a sheep - polymorphing sylvanas simply turns her into a sheep rather than activating her deathrattle.
If you use this on any 7+ mana minion the worst you could get is a core hound, you're actually odds on to get a legendary of some kind
If you use this on a giant, you'll get another giant at full health or deathwing.
I love this card.
simple combo with Shadow Madness... Amaz and priest fans will be pleased!
Definitely want to try this guy out in handlock. If you use it on an giant, you'll always get it back at full health.
This guy is pretty fun. I'm going to use him on my silenced Legendary minions - picture if Tirion or Bolvar is silenced, they have the potential to basically roll into almost anything that would be better. If you use him on minions with battlecry (like say Ancient of Lore, or Guardian of Kings, or Antique Healbot), you can roll them into something that's almost always going to be better. He's kind of like a RNG-flavored Brewmaster. I love this guy.
Good card for handlock, druid or controladin maybe? As far as I know Ramp, handlock and pally tend to have consistent times to use this in comparison to other classes. Recombombulate a damaged molten, druid minion or pally equalized minion.
This will also work well against taunts, like a soft black knight. Sludge or sunwalker into something you can pass by.
I like the consistency it will have in handlock though, due to the molten and mountain giants.
Edit: The more I think of this card the more interesting it gets, I now see the great use it has in priest with the Shadow Madness orAuchenai soul priest. Can someone enlighten me on how this is effective in shaman and mage as I see people tend to want to use it there.
It only works on friendly minions, not enemy minions.
