I am seeking some enlightenment for the community. I've had this card for a while now and I just don't see where it fits. It's kinda funny in some mage decks and it is hilarious with mid-range hunter with a couple of feign death but other than that, it is pretty pointless. Has someone found a good deck for this card? Is it better to dust it?
I do have the same question and my answer so far is no (except for gimmick decks)
Most of us agree that this card is trash. But for some reason, I will not be surprised if it suddenly becomes popular in some obscure deck build some pro player makes one day.
People need to actually use this card. He tops off my ramp druid beautifully and wins me even games even if he gets bgh'd straight away due to the fact I only play him when I have trades available. Any deck with late game board presence would love this card.
Can I see your deck list? I get the idea but still, for 9 mana, you can do better. I don't see why, for example, you would use this card instead of Nefarian or Ysera or basically any major dragon.

whats the best thing when u open this is...400 dust
This guy is so troll http://imgur.com/CjsKZNS
should cost less with this effect
got him from a result of Sneed and I never laughed so hard during a game before in my life. The endless amount of Leper Gnomes....genius.
If you manage to get a spare part cloaking device, then he can't really be dealt with. The 1 mana from the device means you can play it the same turn as him. It also protects him from BGH since it needs to actually target him to have an effect. Running this card in a mech deck that works with a lot of spare parts might be the best thing for it.
I agree with you overall. It pales in comparison to other similar cost cards. It is only really useful, in my experience, in some mage decks that have a lot of AoE and other spells.
Regarding your other argument on tournaments, I see your point. And we probably won't see the same level of enthusiasm for mechs in the future. But you never know. Most people use the same types of decks on tournaments and that is reasonable but also dull. We could see, in the future, a creative player making use of the unexpected. I could see this card, probably, being used in a priest control or ramp druid. The main problem is that the game keeps moving towards aggro (on ladder).
I've been using this guy to some pretty good success in two decks. One is Shaman control when paired with Ancestor's Call making him cost 4 the turn you play him, giving you mana to follow up with spells. Having a Stormforged Axe in play can be a huge bonus as well.
And the other is Warrior control, because you can play him after you have a weapon out, and can follow with any of the good Warrior one drop spells. In both of these decks I can usually keep him on the table for more than the turn I play him unless the opponent hex/polymorphs him right off the bat. After you get a second turn with him on the board it's basically gameover. Here are some plays I try to use
Shaman Control
Ancestor's Call--->Mekgineer Thermaplugg---> Then either Lightning Storm, Feral Spirit, or Ancestral Spirit
Warrior Control
Death's Bite or Gorehowl in play, turn 10 drop Mekgineer Thermaplugg and follow with weapon swing and Execute, Whirlwind, or Shield Slam
I got this in a a pack right after I got voljin the pack before I think we know who the better legendary is.
Worst legendary of gvg imo. The idea could be fun, but 9 mana... a 9/7... no way to play it :/
Do you play in arena or in constructed ? It seems obvious to me but lets explain the idea :
A 9 mana cost card is really hard to play, because you'll probably not be able to play anything else during this turn. So it's a card which has no effect to protect you hero turn 9+ (taunt, heal, destroy minions, etc.) -> you better need to dominate the game if you want to play it!
Plus the stats are for a very aggressive play because 9/7 is easy to remove (big game hunter and so on).
Blovar can have goods stats like 6/7 if you killed some minions before, and be played for 5 mana !
Bolvar can be freaking amazing absolutely underrated, has helped change the pace of many games that secured the win. Definitely better than Mekgineer ignoring the fact one is a class legendary
This topic is not about Bolvar. But since you looks mad about him I'll just agree that in a control deck he's really good, silence him and then your opponent can't silence your tyrion, worth it.
Anyone tried him out yet consistently?:)
